A diamond in the rough

This is a really fun course with a great deal of potential. I hope that someone will make an investment in bringing the fairways and greens back to life because this could be a premier course in the area.
Pros
• Friendly staff
• Great layout
• Good use of trees and hazards to make the course challenging
• Small greens with lots of undulations
• #17 is really unique
• The restaurant was fantastic
Cons

Fantastic course

I've played a lot of courses in the Northeast TN area, but this is the first time I've played here. In terms of the overall experience, this ranks as #1 for me.

The only negative I have is that the course was hard to find because something has happened with the way it comes up on the GPS. That's not the fault of the course, I know. Make sure to drive past the left turn that is a dead end for a mile or so and look for the billboard on the right that indicates the left turn.

I missed my tee time because I couldn't find the course, but the staff was great to fit me in. I got paired up with someone who didn't have a tee time. This place is busy, so I don't recommend just showing up. There is no driving range, but they have very nice warm up nets with balls provided for free.

The course is absolutely beautiful. The fairways are tight, but they are like carpet. The course is short, but the hazards are well laid out and there are many doglegs so that it doesn't play short. The fairways are also narrow. There's plenty of water, sand, undulations in the fairways, etc. The greens were very fast and tricky, which also makes up for the short course.

One comment: I'm noticing more and more greens lately where players don't repair their ball marks. If you're one of those people, start being more considerate of the golf course and other players.

Water, ice and bathrooms are available every few holes. The water is the best tasting I've ever gotten on a golf course.

This is a 5 star course...don't miss it.

More than it seems

I got an unbelievable deal on GolfNow on this course, but it would have been worth it at full price. The front 9 sits in kind of a bowl and most of it is visible from the clubhouse. It looked wide open and easy until I started to play it. It is designed so that one lake comes into play for most of the front 9, and another small pond takes care of another 2 holes. The course is pretty short, but it's designed to punish the long hitter who isn't accurate (my favorite kind of course). The fairways start wide and get more narrow, and water is strategically placed. The greens are pretty small, and many of them are elevated and sloped.

The back 9 is totally different. It's very hilly, short, and narrow. One par 4 is drivable, but the target is tiny. The back 9 also uses water, rocks, trees, and bushes as hazards. There are also very few flat places on the course. This seems to be designed that way on purpose, so you may want to practice some off balance shots before you play. Unfortunately, that extends to the tee boxes, and that's one of the few complaints I have about the course. Tee boxes should be flat.

I have two other minor issues: 1) many of the holes on the front 9 run parallel to each other, so be alert for other players 2) there is no sand on the carts to fix divots.

The course was in great shape...fairways and greens were quite nice.

Whoever designed this course was clever. There are more challenges that first meet the eye that get progressively harder as the skill level increases.

This was a fun course that is the best value that I've ever seen.

Cool course

This is a don't miss course in my opinion. It's beautiful, challenging, and a lot of fun to play. I played Oak Marsh earlier in the week, and it abused me, but this course is as nice and a bit more forgiving. It was in superb condition and wasn't crowded at all.

I only have one complaint. While warming up on the driving range, some of the grounds crew drove onto the range...looked like they were getting plugs for the greens. They gave no warning, and pretty soon, another 4 showed up and just stood around. They were right at driver range and never did move, so I didn't get to warm up with any woods. Since I was the only person on the range, I thought they could have waited a few minutes or sped up. I complained about it, so maybe it won't happen again.

Even after starting in a really bad mood because of the crew, I soon forgot and really enjoyed the course.

First Class Course

This is a great course. It's very well maintained, well laid out, and very challenging. I'm glad that I had a good supply of second hand golf balls, because I went through a lot of them. This course is pricey, but it's worth the cost.

Nice round

This is one of the prettiest courses in the area. The tees, fairways, and greens were in great shape, and the greens were the softest and fastest I played during my vacation. The course is well designed with lots of subtle hazards. I played after 3:30 when the cost is extremely low, but the course was busy even at that time of day. That's a testament to where this course ranks compared to the others around the area. This one is a must play in my opinion.

Great Course

This is a very nice course. They didn't try to cram it into a small space and it seems the community was built around the course instead of the other way around. The holes are narrow with lots of water and sand, but the hazards are set up to be easier on the beginner and tougher as the level of play gets higher. The course was in great shape, the greens were the softest of the 4 I've played this week. I also love the cart paths made of sand. My only beef is that I had to pay full price for my wife to ride along with me.

Hammock Creek

This was kind of an odd round of golf, but I'll review the course first. The course was in good shape. The greens are firm but very slow, fairways, tee boxes, and rough are will maintained with very few bad patches. The driving range and putting green were also well maintained.

It seems that the locals view the course as a park. I was the last person on the course, and I had a couple drive by on their bicycles, a guy taking his dogs outside to potty, boys fishing on two different holes, a lady walking her two big dogs that wanted to eat me, and a group playing football on the 17th fairway. People got out of the way when they saw me coming, but this is the first time I've seen activity like this on this nice of a course.

The biggest thing that bothered me was the golf carts, If I drove more than a few feet off the path, the cart shut down and a message popped up on the on-board GPS to put the cart in reverse to go back to the path. It crawls backwards until it's in range and then goes back to normal. The course was a bit wet, but I've been driving golf carts for more than 30 years and know how to respect the course. This really slowed my pace of play because I often had to walk a ways to find my ball, and then I sometimes had to walk back to the cart to change clubs. This is the first course I've seen to set the carts up this way, and I don't think I'd go back because of this.

First time

I've wanted to play this course for a while, and I finally got the chance. It's a nice course in a beautiful location. The fairways are a bit narrow, but it was probably a bit short for me from the white tees. The greens were perfect. Great value for the money. There were a number of retirees playing the day I was there, so the pace was a bit slow.
