Club at Bond Head - North
Played On 9/27/2013outstanding course
I played the North course. It is a challenging, beautifully maintained course with fantastic views and dramatic elevation changes. The marshals and club house staff were very friendly and professional. It was one of my best golfing experiences in Ontario.
Highland Gate Golf Club
Played On 9/9/2013tricky layout
After looking at the score card we chose to play the blues since it was only 5774 yards. It turned out to be quite deceiving. The course is a par 69, which adjusts to around 6300 yards if it were a par 72. There were quite a few very tight tee shots. Some required drawing the ball, some required fading. The par 4's were short, but required accurate shots. The par 3's were very long, the shortest was 155 yards, but the rest were from 174 to 206. This course turned out to be a real test of your game. I had played it before, but it was a long time ago, and it did not seem to be as difficult then. I would play it again, but I would try the white tees.
Oliver's Nest Golf and Country Club
Played On 9/7/2013constantly improving
I have played the course many times before. Since it has been taken over by new ownership, I have noticed many improvements. The greens and fairways are greener and more consistent. Some of the tees are in need of work, but greatly improved over last year. The bunkers are starting to look good. This course is fun to play with a great variety of holes.
Glen Eagle Golf Club - Blue/Yellow
Played On 7/16/2013Lots of tree lined holes
If you spray the ball, this course will challenge you. There are a lot of tree lined holes, including some blind doglegs. The rough was quite high (4-5 inches in places) and made it difficult to find the ball. I played the blue-yellow combo, and lost two balls that just missed the fairway. The greens were very nice, not too fast, but rolled true.
Whirlpool Golf Course
Played On 6/9/2013Great Course
I have played Whirlpool many times. A nicely designed course, it has a variety of tree lined holes to keep you interested. It is always well maintained. Although there's no driving range, it has a very nice, short game practice area. It plays 6300 yards from the whites, which I find to be a perfect length for my game.
Hunters Pointe Golf Course
Played On 6/9/2013constantly improving
I have played this course many times. It used to be very difficult, especially on windy days. Since those early days, the fescue has been cut back, and the greens have been softened. The course is much more enjoyable now. It has excellent drainage, well kept greens and fairways, and a nice variety of holes. I always try to play this course when I'm in the Niagara area.
Knollwood Golf Club - New
Played On 6/7/2013One and done
I found this to be an odd golf course. I have never seen one quite like it.
The par fours were either between 300 and 340 yards, or over 400 yards, none in between. There were too many blind tee-shots. In some of them you could not tell, from the tee box, which way the holes were going. There were no sketches/maps of the holes on the tee boxes or the score card.
Some holes were too wide open, and some were unfairly tight. Most of the greens were patchy, bumpy, and in dire need of maintenance. It was impossible to read putts. Some of the tee-off areas looked almost abandoned.
On the positive side, it's a nice property with great potential. Some of the fairways were very green and well kept. The rough was equally well kept. There were a couple of very nice holes, the par three 9th comes to mind. It only took us about three hours to play.........there were few people on the course.
In my opinion, the greens and the overall layout are the two most important features of a course. This one failed on both.
Black Diamond Golf Club
Played On 5/26/2013A tale of two nines
Black Diamond has a variety of holes that will challenge your game. I have played here several times, and I'm still not sure how to approach some of the holes. Namely the 13th and 16th. It's one of the reasons I keep coming back. The front nine is relatively straight forward, but hardly prepares you for the back nine, which is full of dog legs, blind shots, and elevation changes. The course recommends a power cart for the back nine...........my wife and I walked it once, our first time.........but never again! If you like a challenge and nice views, this course is for you.
Royal Ontario Golf Club
Played On 5/24/2013well maintained course
I found this course to be in very good shape. It's not very long (from the whites), so you can concentrate on accuracy off the tee. There is a good variety of holes, with plenty of hazards to get your attention. The greens were large and had a lot of slope to them. I have played the course several times using golfnow. The one time I didn't, I found it to be quite overpriced.
Lowville Golf Club
Played On 4/5/2013The course has potential, but it's undergoing renovations.
On the plus side, the course has some very scenic holes. The greens varied greatly in quality. Probably because of the renovation process. On the negative side, one of the holes, the 14th, was basically closed. The 18th was under repair, due to the massive reservoir built next to it. The par 5's were short, and relatively easy. The par 3's, I found the most interesting. They varied in length and difficulty. The par fours were either very long, or very short. I would play the course again, but not until the renovations are all done.
Carlisle Golf and Country Club - East/South
Played On 10/23/2012well maintained course
The course has three nines. The most challenging is the North, next is the South, with the East playing the friendliest. I enjoy the North, South combo the most. It's mostly tree lined, with some out of bounds fences along the way. It obviously requires a straight game, especially from the blues. There are plenty of bunkers to get your attention and the greens can be quite tricky depending on the pin placements. Overall a very nice track.
King's Forest Golf Course
Played On 10/21/2012Nice scenic course
King's Forest is a Municipal course, which guarantees a good level of maintenance. It's on a very large property and has some beautiful and challenging holes. The course is long (6300 from the whites) and played even longer in the cool and wet October weather. I enjoyed it and would certainly play it again. It was well worth the 35 min drive.
Indian Wells Golf Club
Played On 10/16/2012nice, scenic course
I enjoy playing Indian Wells in the fall season. It's a beautiful time of year with the trees changing colours, and the escarpment as a backdrop. You will get to use all the clubs in the bag with par four tee-shots ranging from accurate 3 irons to all-out drivers. There is the right combination of tight holes and wide open testers. As well, water or deep ravines come into play on about two thirds of the holes
Baxter Creek Golf Club
Played On 9/20/2012Nice, new course
Baxter Creek has a good variety of holes, including a 19th. It is easy to walk and has some very challenging holes that get your attention, along with some shorter, easier ones that keep you in the game. It can be very windy at times, but there are several tree lined holes in the back nine that offer some protection. The greens are very well maintained and can play very fast.
Lindsay Golf and Country Club
Played On 9/17/2012Excellent value
I think Lindsay has the right combination of long, narrow, difficult holes with some that are open and more straight forward. The greens are always in great shape and can provide some challenging puts. The course is relatively flat, so it makes walking easy.
Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands
Played On 8/15/2012A private course experience at affordable prices
The course has three nines and is kept in excellent shape. The Highlands and Midlands provide the best challenge. If you can't hit it straight, make sure you bring extra balls. This course is expensive when compared to others I play, but I think of it as treating myself once in a while. Try it .......... you'll like it!
Wow, thank you for the very nice compliment. We hope that you have been back to try the South Course.
