Always Enjoyable

Course in excellent condition. A bit wetter than normal but eminently playable. 90° rule in force. Played one tee box up (Blue/White). Bermuda rough was penalizing even though it was not much deeper than a ball diameter. Typical for bermuda rough.

A Lot of Fun

Course is really fun to play; very 'gettable' if you play from the appropriate tee boxes. Greens were in excellent condition. Definitely recommend. Look forward to returning.

Wet

See Title. Very Wet, but given that we are way above average rainfall for the year, and the course is no more than 3' above sea-level, it was playable. Greens in good condition, a little slow, but that, also, is typical of courses in the area this time of year. All in all good value.

Golf Course Revival

This was my first time playing this course; I had no idea what to expect. At the end of the round I have to give a big two thumbs up! There is work to be done on some of the tee boxes, and fairways are a bit rough in places But I have to agree with previous reviewers that the greens are impeccable! Where else does one start, other than on the greens when bringing a golf course back? Seeing the consistency and pristine conditions of the greens, one would think that the rest of this course is well on the way to becoming an absolute gem!

Greens: A+
Fairways B
Tee-Boxes:C
Bunkers: ? (1 Bunker shot, deep soft sand)
Rough: Needs work.

Well worth the price. A very enjoyable round. I will be returning, often.

Still Enshrouded in Hysteria

I played on 2/24/2021. Arrived early and hit the mask mandate right up front. I don't wear masks. They propagate the lie, and I don't propagate lies. Had to check in from outside. That's the first issue. Outside of that, the staff was cordial, and if no mask mandate, no complaints, kudos only.

Second issue, no chipping green, and the putting green had no holes, only those little flags with the bumper at the bottom. I guess the virus might spread more rapidly if there were holes in the green. Also no water on the course.

Third issue, slow play. Had to quit after 16 holes due to slow play. Over 4 hours to play the sixteen.

The course itself is in tip-top shape, from the greens, to the bunkers, fairways and tees. Please get over the hysteria! A very nice and well kept course Funny though, on the way out, they were having a huge gathering, Couldn't make out any masks.

Five stars sans the hysteria. Won't be returning until sanity resurfaces.

Much Improved

I played this course on Jan 15th. Very windy, and finished on 18 in a cold, downpour. I was impressed with the course and the greens. I've played this course often and the greens are normally very slow and bumpy. But with the winter overseed they are much improved Always very subtle breaks around the hole that are easy to misread.

The overall conditions of the course were a solid B-B+. No complaints. I was only in one bunker and it turned out to be hard-pan, back right bunker, on 14, in the very back right hand corner of the bunker. Wouldn't think many people end up there.

Winter conditions seem to make this course much more enjoyable. Most difficult hole to make par: 13, most likely blowup hole: 11. First 4 holes on the back make the back nine much more difficult than the front.

Worth the drive

Semi-private course. If you play the appropriate tees, you should score well. Greens are in excellent condition as are the fairways. Tee boxes are decent, and bunkers have plenty of sand. Golf carts are excellent. They are still in hysteria mode. No water on the course, no rakes in the bunkers. Finally pulled the Styrofoam out of the holes.

All in all a very nice experience every time I play. Today my golf buddy and I were almost alone on the course, and the weather held with just a slight occasional drizzle. A few wet patches on the fairways due to weather. Enjoyable day. A full 4.5 star rating. I gave her a 5.

Worth while.

Course was in good condition. Green speed about 8. Would have given a five star except for the green on the par 3 16th hole is in sore need of some TLC. Been that way for a long time. They seem to be having trouble with it.

I've been playing this course fairly regularly. Overall in decent to good shape. Greens are slow, very slow, and a bit bumpy, but consistent. So you can learn to putt them. Course is short by today's standards, I'm limited to a 6300 yard course, so to me it doesn't matter, the tips are 6500+.. I give the course itself in between three and four stars. A great place to sharpen your game, with differing challenges on every hole. Fairways aren't narrow, but the bermuda rough can make it difficult to find your ball; even though it is not much deeper than the ball itself. The ball settles to the bottom and the bermuda covers it. Once found, not extremely difficult to hit out of it unless you have a bit of ill-luck. Most bunkers are in decent shape. No hard-pan bunkers. Hitting the fairway will definitely help your score, most fairways are tree-lined so if you're left or right, or even on the wrong side of the fairway, you can have tree trouble. Great course for the price. Worth every penny. Staff is always friendly.

A+

I love these two courses: Rolling Oaks and Pine Meadows. They are the best in the area at a price that is affordable, at least this time of year they are affordable. I don't even think about them throughout the winter. The greens were super! Not fast but normal speed, and smooth. I'd say 8 on the stimpmeter. They are fast compared to the rest of the courses in this area. They built up my putting confidence which really improves putts. Of the two courses I prefer Pine Barrens. It has a tee box that meets my ability of about 6300 yards, (I'm a short hitter.) Rolling Oaks is longer from the same tees, but has more room for error. Unfortunately the condition of my game did not meet the condition of the course. I have developed a snap hook that I can't seem to fix. But that is not the fault of the course., of course. These courses are worth the occasional drive from Tampa! Don't expect a lot of 19th hole amenities. There is a restaurant/bar which I can't comment on since I didn't use it.

Nice course, white tees are short making the course play very easy. Back tees are only 6.4 K yards, but demanding 200+ yard carries on many tee boxes, which leaves a short approach to the greens. I can't carry 200+ yards so I have to play the 5.5 K tees, which for me makes the course play very easy.

Greens are in excellent condition and very readable, but slow. It took some time to adjust to the speed. Overall course is in great shape and well worth the visit. I recommend this course.

Kudos

Played on Oct. 20 2016. Got a great price on Golfnow. Arrived a little before my tee time and had to wait an hour to tee off due to a shot-gun tournament that played way slower than had expected. Not the golf course’s fault; typical for amateurs “that think more highly of [their game] than they ought.”

Outside of that, I can’t mention another single fault. Pleasant staff, pleasant group, great course conditions, and beautiful weather. Only complaint was my game, which has no reflection on the course in question.

If you’re a short hitter, such as I am, I suggest you play the 5900 yard tees. I normally play from around 6300 yards, but they have a choice between 6400 and 5900, which makes a huge difference. I tried the 6400 yard tees the first time out, and, couldn’t reach the fairways. Didn’t score too badly, but wasn’t often putting for birdie. Played the 5900 yard tees my second visit, and enjoyed it much more.

Good greens, good fairways, top-notch staff. The layout is tricky, especially if you’ve never played it before, but challenging and fun. Give the course 5*’s.

Nice Course, needs work

I live near this course, and I like the layout. It has some very difficult holes, and some easy pars. I was able to play on a hot deal through Golfnow for 10.00 + the Golfnow fee, but there was a reason: the greens had just been punched with the large holes. Needless to say the greens were not fabulous, and I was disappointed to see that the sanding job was poorly done. There were as many empty holes as sand filled holes in most of the greens. Proper sanding will allow the greens to come back much more quickly and protect the roots from airborne diseases. Besides the aerating, the greens had many bare spots, some near the pins; the fairways also were spotty and the bunkers were hardpan. Would love to see this course properly taken care of, as it has a great layout and the staff is very friendly. Will continue to play there. It's worth the price, but it could be much, much better.

Great value; Very nice course

Course is very fair. I played from the 6300 yard blue tees. Fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. Greens are a little slow, which seems to be typical for this time of year in this area. But they are true and in good condition. You need to be in the fairway to score due to the tree-lined fairways and rough. If you are on the wrong side of the fairway on many holes, you will have a tree problem, especially if you are not a long hitter. Although not very deep, the ball can settle down in the Bermuda rough and it can be hard to find and/or to advance. Quarry holes on the back nine provide a unique experience in Florida. Well worth the price. Fun to play. Recommended.
