Bay Hill Club & Lodge - Championship Course
Played On 01/16/2014Challenging from any set of tees
I have played Bay Hill many times but this particular round was freezing. It did not make the course any easier. They are already prepping the course for the tournament and the greens were really quick! The rough is also tough so I'd advise you to hit as many fairways as possible.
There are a few easy holes and a few very tough holes, but it all evens out in the end. You need to birdie a couple of the par 5s to keep your score respectable.
I love the food, I love the practice facilities, and you'll probably spot the King while you're there. I'd definitely recommend Bay Hill if you are in town and able to play it.
Orange Tree Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2014A True Test of Golf!
Orange tree is not ideal for beginning golfers. While there are multiple sets of tees, Orange Tree is extremely narrow with beautiful Champion Bermuda greens. This course will test all areas of your game and reward good play. Definitely recommend this course if you can get out there while in Orlando. The staff is really friendly and the pace of play is always great.
Kapalua Resort - The Bay Course
Played On 12/31/2013Amazing views, a must play!
Really enjoyed the Bay Course. There are so many holes that have outstanding views that you can hardly focus on the golf. However, the course is equally great. I used a rental set and they were great, new Callaways!
The Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point
Played On 12/20/2013One of the best courses in Orlando!
This is definitely one of my favorite courses in the Orlando area. It's like a "mini" Isleworth which is next door.
The course is challenging just as any Nicklaus design is but it's great. Always in nice shape and the driving range, putting green, and facilities are equally nice.
The par 3's are long and there is some water to maneuver around but if you can do that, you'll be in good shape. The greens are usually very quick as well! I definitely recommend this course!
Grand Cypress - North/South
Played On 12/12/2013Really Challenging Course
Grand Cypress (N/S) is the real deal. The course is so demanding and the greens are so undulating that you are in for a true test. That being said, it's a great course!
The course has also added a couple of new holes which were fun to see.
I would definitely recommend the N/S nines for experienced golfers or if you're just looking for a one day, check out the new course.
Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes
Played On 12/06/2013Nice Course, Big Greens
The Legacy Club is nice. The course is fairly easy but I have played it a lot. The greens are giant so if you can pick the right club, you're in for a good round. There are a few large fairway bunkers to maneuver but other than that, it's right in front of you.
The course is always in good shape and they have a great driving range.
The food is also very good.
Heathrow Country Club
Played On 12/06/2013Lots of water but a fun course!
Heathrow is a classic Florida course. Tons of water (I think 15 of the 18 holes) and your typical Bermuda grass. You can definitely go low here if you are not intimidated by forced carries. There are a couple of giant "two-step" greens so shot placement is key here. I definitely recommend this course if you're able to play it!
Bay Hill Club & Lodge - Charger Course
Played On 11/16/2013Great 9-hole course!
The Charger is a nice warmup before you get out onto the main course at Bay Hill. It is definitely challenging and a solid 9-hole layout, not like some other 9-hole courses you may find.
If you are unable to play the Championship course or just want to get out for a few holes, this is a great alternative.
Bay Hill has great practice facilities and food, I highly recommend it!
Kensington Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/05/2013Really nice course!
I played in a mixed team tournament here last fall and really enjoyed Kensington. It's challenging, a little gimicky in spots but rewards good play. The course is really beautiful with large bunkers and pretty landscaping.
Kensington has some risk/reward holes with plenty of water to make things tough. You can be bold in spots but I'm not sure if it would even save you a lot of yardage in the long run.
Overall, this was a fun course with a great clubhouse. There is a water range but it's stil nice.
The Country Club of Orlando
Played On 08/28/2013A Hidden Gem in Orlando
I love Country Club of Orlando. Well, I love all Donald Ross courses but CCO is really special. The location in Orlando makes it a hidden gem as well.
I had a USGA qualifier here so the set-up was long but it was still great. The greens are big and roll perfectly. The bermuda grass can be challenging around the greens but that's Donald Ross for you. Stay below the hole...
The par 5's here give you a break so I would advise making birdie here is possible. CCO is great for walking because the holes are parallel to one another. Overall, it's a great course if you can find your way on it. There's also an awesome short game area hidden towards number 11.
Great food, great course, play there!
Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club - Witch Hollow Course
Played On 08/14/2013Awesome course, loved it!
Pumpkin Ridge (Witch Hollow) is one of my favorite courses I've ever played. With all of the history with the USGA events, it makes it that much more special to play it yourself.
The course was in perfect shape and definitely very challenging in spots. Accuracy is key and the rough was tough as well.
The range is great, food is awesome, and the club is really neat. Worth the trip!
LPGA International - Jones Course
Played On 08/10/2013Challenging course!
The Legends aka Hills course is much tougher than the Champions course. If you have one errant shot you will be penalized and most likely end up with a double. There are a lot of forced carries over marshes so make sure you take enough club.
That being said, I love the course. It's probably not ideal for beginners but if you are up for a challenge, take it on.
The LPGA Q-school is always held here and you will see that this course always shows higher scores whereas the Champions course lets player go low. I'd recommend both LPGA courses!
Country Club of Leawood
Played On 07/15/2013Awesome course, great greens!
Leawood South was amazing to play. I really did not expect to find this course in Kansas but was pleasantly surprised. The rough was extremely challenging, the fairways were in pristine condition and the greens were excellent. One errant shot and you will pay the price.
I played in a women's event here and the scores were very high. It reminded me of a USGA event because even par was near the top of the leaderboard every day of the tournament.
If you are looking for a challenge, give Leawood a go! There are some elevation changes on a few holes which makes the course fun.
I would definitely recommend this course and area!
Newport Country Club
Played On 06/20/2013Hard to beat Newport CC
Driving up to the clubhouse alone is spectacular. It's a links course and just awesome in so many ways. You start out with a par 5 but there are a couple of long par 4's which make it tough. The conditions were perfect when I played it and I'm sure that's the norm here.
We walked which made it nice as well. A couple of holes have some pretty severe elevation changes which make it tough.
There are a few holes with great views of the water as well. Highly recommend Newport CC if you have the opportunity.
Hardscrabble Country Club
Played On 06/03/2013A Fun Course with Plenty of Elevation
Hardscrabble was very unique. I am not used to golf in the midwest so maybe that was it, but there was plenty of elevation and other things that made this course very challenging. The course was in great shape and I'm sure after a few rounds you'd get the hang of it. Overall, it was a fun course and an enjoyable day. I'd recommend it for sure.
Shadow Creek Golf Course
Played On 04/25/2013Absolutely spectacular!
Shadow Creek is hands down probably the most spectacular course I've ever played. I played there on my honeymoon and really didn't know too much about it. Everything about the day was amazing. You really feel like you are playing at Augusta National yet just over the tee box is a desert... There are creeks, water falls, cool wildlife and the greenest grass you've ever seen.
This is worth the money and should be on every golfer's bucket list. They do not have ladies tees but I was fine to play from the first set of men's tees.
Pebble Beach Golf Links™
Played On 04/23/2013A Must Play!
My husband and I went out to Pebble for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing. The greens were a lot smaller than I thought and the course was very demanding. Holes 6-10 are just unlike any I've ever seen.
Pebble Beach was everything I hoped for and more. We had an awesome caddy and we walked the course which I would recommend. Otherwise, it's cart path only and you end up walking more to and from your cart.
This is a must play if you ever have the opportunity!
Dunes at Monterey Peninsula Country Club
Played On 04/23/2013Truly Special to Play
I was fortunate enough to play here thanks to a member and I'll never forget it. While it was rather cold and windy, that did not stop us from having a great time. A couple of holes are right on the water and are just spectacular.
This course was very difficult as well. The course conditions were perfect but the rough was tough, greens were quick, and it did play long thanks to the wind.
I would highly recommend it if you have the opportunity to play. The entire club is just awesome. Food is great, pro shop is really nice, and the practice facilities are ideal for any golfer. Two thumbs up for sure!
The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2013Beautiful clubhouse and a neat course
This course was fun to play and the views were really nice as well. The journey to get there is another story but it made for an adventure, that's for sure.
The preserve had a ton of cool wildlife and the course was nice as well. There are a lot of elevation changes and the caddy was very helpful for our group. The greens are very large so accuracy is very helpful here.
The clubhouse is one of a kind.
Winter Park Golf Course
Played On 2/24/2013Perfect course for walking.
I took my father-in-law out to Winter Park CC because we wanted to walk. We had the course to ourselves because it was sprinkling. This course is always maintained and the value for the money is unbelievable. This is a perfect course for beginners or if you simply want to get out and walk 9-holes. We had a great time and will be back.
