McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2023Hit it straight
If you hit it straight off the tee, you can score. Fairways and greens in nice shape, the over seed slows down the greens but they roll true. The price was nice and the servers on course were plentiful. Nice value.

TPGC was well maintained and picturesque. The course is cut through a pine grove and rarely rewards the crooked shot. The fairways were very nice, tee boxes level and the greens were consistent but on the slow side. The course is not long, so above average golfers score will be dependent on how straight the ball is hit from the tee. Length doesn’t matter but for a few of the holes.
Allegedly there was a beverage cart but we didn’t cross its path the 4 hours we were out there, so some improvement could be had with that.
The golf c arts had GPS and Bluetooth speakers, which was nice.

This is a great course. Big boomers might suggest that some holes are too short but no one can argue about the conditions of this course. We played inside 4 hours. The greens were in great condition and they were fast. The fairways were in excellent condition as well. They have a nice little clubhouse and outside patio, coolers for beverages on the carts and the carts were electric too, a welcomed silence. Be careful where you hit it on the greens, above the hole is an immediate challenge for putting. The par threes are memorable and the par 5s give nice opportunities for a birdie. No doubt this course is the best bang for the buck that I’ve played in the state. Get out and enjoy this northern MN gem.
Glencoe Country Club
Played On 05/16/2022Hot Deal opportunity
Decided to play this course after seeing a hot deal on golf now. 25 bucks got me 18 holes and a cart. You really can’t complain with that deal!
The course plays at 6400 yards but that is a bit misleading as there are at least 5 par 3s… so it feels longer when you play it. . The greens are relatively small and were rolling surprisingly well for a mid May round.
Trees are plentiful on many holes and require the smart golfer to think about club selection on the tee box. I didn’t think, and paid the price on a few holes. The course is tucked up next to the river and though there was no flooding on the course, it was pretty soft and the rough was long. I’m sure they were waiting for the ground to dry up before mowing. Fairways were nice but some of the tee boxes could use some work.
The round took 4.5 hours and I really think it should be under 4 hours on a small course. If you get a deal, you’ll get your value from this course. Staff was friendly and helpful which is always nice.

Fantastic course. Greens are fast and a great layout. Incredible value in my opinion! I’ll play it again for sure.
Timber Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/21/2021Good greens
Given the current drought, the course conditions were relatively lush. I thought the greens rolled nicely and were consistent from hole to hole. The clubhouse is modest but clean with a nice variety of beverages and some food. The staff was courteous as well. There are 6-8 pretty good holes and a few tricky dog legs that might not be viewed as ideal. Holes 8 9 15 and 18 are good holes but are pretty snug on the layout, so keep your head on a swivel for renegade golf balls gone astray. This is not a long course, so if you can kit it straight with some distance and solve some of the greens, you’ll be happy with your score. It was pretty busy the day I played and groups got backed up a bit but still finished in just over 4 hours. I think you’ll enjoy your round for the value and I’ll play it again.
Pebble Creek Country Club - Championship Course
Played On 06/19/2021Solid value
I played this in 1995 as well as last week. The trees make it a tight course. Length is medium and most single digit handicappers will think it short. Placement is key. Fairways in good condition and the greens were above average speed with contour. Service was friendly and timely both on the course and at the clubhouse. You’ll like this place.
The Meadows at Mystic Lake

Very solid golf course. Fairway conditions were consistent and the rough was light to aid off center drives. Ample fairways allows for a golfer to plod their way around the tract. Greens were fast and aprons permitted putting around the green en lieu of the typical chip. Staff was very friendly and pace of play ways inside 4 hours. Almost worth the green fees., which were a bit steep for mid September.
