The Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point
Played On 04/13/2013Completely worth it - Nicklaus gem
Jack NIcklaus loves generous fairways and you have it on Keene's Pointe but the issue is some greens are easier to access from the CORRECT side of the short grass. This is a members only club that will hopefully allow you access. If you can find your way onto the course you will not be disappointed. The practice facility is serviceable - although they could use a better short game chipping and pitching area.
The one thing I walk away from Keene's Pointe is why can't all golf courses have greens this good. If you read it right edge and you hit it right edge, you'll be making that putt and many others should you be rolling the rock well. The course snakes through a residential community that backs up to Isleworth - which leaves you admiring not only a beautiful golf course but some pretty houses surrounded by the Butler Chain of lakes. There are several tees from which to play - if you want your hat handed to you, one foot in the rough may be a bit too much to ask. From the middle set of tees, you get a fair but challenging golf course that doesn't let up from hole 1 through 18. The par 5's are easily the best attribute of this course with four really challenging & four really different looks at holes over 500 yards.

There is nothing better than playing a few holes of golf after work at night under the lights with a few friends and some frothy beverages. The course isn't much but who cares - this keeps your game in tune and your friendships alive. Golf needs more places like this - a locally owned course with a great staff.
Disney's Palm Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2013Prettiest course on Disney
This course is easily the best looking course on Disney's property... perhaps closely rivaled by Waldorf. When I played this course I found it to be in excellent condition with beautiful scenery (past hole 4). This course played 4-5 shots easier than Magnolia and for my money was more enjoyable.
The stretch of holes from 13-17 are some of the best holes in central Florida highlighted by the par 5 14th. Big Break Disney Golf was filmed here and it was cool to see some of the shots hit from that series on this course.
This is my favorite Disney course by far.
TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course
Played On 03/08/2013Bucket List course checked off
Do yourself, your loved ones and your ancestors a favor and play the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
This is easily one of the best courses in all of Florida with great golf from the moment you step out of your car. While the price tag is steep, the experience is worth it. Despite the difficulty of the course, the pace of play was good - what took so long was my playing partners and I trying to hang on for dear life going around the course.
I know the back nine holes are the most famous, but holes 2, 4, 5, 6 and 9 are probably some of the finest constructed holes on the entire property.
Do yourself and everyone on the course a favor... play as fast as you can 16-17! Take the visuals in with your eyes and not with a camera the entire two holes. I get it... it's a really cool hole but you don't need 64 photos of yourself on the 17th tee.
also, get aggressive on the shot - trust your yardage and try to make birdie. That way you get to go to the drop zone like I did - and play 2 tee shots on the famous 17th.
Mystic Dunes Golf Club
Played On 02/10/2013Golf near Disney gets a little Goofy
The golf course, overall, is playable but there are a few holes out there that makes you wonder if the course designer had any real experience or if he ran out of land. I'm speaking of 14 and 15. The par 3 is too long of a carry to allow an average golfer to land the ball and KEEP the ball on the green. Moving onto the par 5, 15th hole - you have nowhere to drive the ball to put yourself in position to go for this short green in two. Even if you're not a long ball hitter and want to score on this hole, a shorter drive still puts you in a position to have to thread a needle for your layup. After your layup ... you're faced with the real issue of the hole, the green. A two tiered green that belongs at a mini-golf course and not on this one. The green completely falls off the face of the earth. A back pin leaves your approach shot on the back fringe or on the edge of the green. A front pin gives you the ultimate test, landing your golf ball inside a 10 foot circle.
I like these kids of holes because they are so different, especially 15 but the people I played with didn't like it.
Overall the prices were good on GolfNow allowing those of us who didn't thoroughly enjoy the course to not hate ourselves after 18. A serviceable course but for me not worth the 40 minute drive.
Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course
Played On 02/09/2013Bring the Kids!
This is the ideal course for beginners and especially children. A short course that is only to be walked. A great introduction to the game for the young ones and family. I don't know if there are rules on the number of players per group... I'm sure 10 would be frowned upon but I've seen as many as 6 or 7 in a group with just a few actually playing golf.
The best part is that it's an entire golf course with not a house to be seen. You actually feel as if you're in nature.
Sugarloaf Mountain Golf & Town Club
Played On 02/06/2013What a waste of a beautful course....
This was the first Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw designed course in Florida that was constructed in the hilliest portion of Central Florida. The elevation changes allowed the course to show of its unrivaled character. This golf course was a beautiful masterpiece when it first opened but has since fallen on hard times. It's a beast to get to for any central Floridian or anyone in the resort areas.
While at one time it was worth the drive, it's no longer a golf course so much as a pasture. I don't even believe the course is still open - Hampton Golf dropped it from its website.
A truly sad sight to see a golf course in such disrepair.
