Willow Run Golf Course
Played On 08/04/2017You get more than what you pay for
This course has some fairly easy holes as well as some pretty challenging ones. Course was in very good condition overall. Rain was forecast so we had no waiting for tee boxes to clear. Had a great time and excellent value for what you get
Blackhawk Golf Club
Played On 09/25/2015Why Did I Wait So Long???
I have to admit I tend to play the same courses repeatedly, once I find ones I like. I have been burned be visiting courses that looked good from the pictures, but then turned out to be anything but that.
One of my golfing buddies and I decided to "take the plunge" and try out a new course--and boy am I glad I did.
If you grade your experience on the golf course alone, Blackhawk golf course should be called Blackhawk Country Club, such was the condition of the course itself. And while there there was no fancy club house such as what you will encounter at New Albany Links or Longaberger, I don't come to these courses to sit around in the clubhouse. Even still, the pro shop is well equipped with just about anything the beginning--or avid golfer--needs.
From the white tees, the course is not overly long, but you may want to think twice before playing it from the tips--unless you are both long and straight as the fairways are plenty tight and can offer challenges to those who spray the tee shot.
Still the course is so extremely well maintained, one will likely experience momentary frustration when forced to pitch his or her ball back into the pristine fairways.
And once you get to the greens--which again are immaculately manicured, you better have your "A" game on as they are fast but certainly reward the well stroked putt.
Regardless of the price, this course is absolutely worth playing. I will definitely return here again--and often--if my wife permits!
Phoenix Golf Links
Played On 09/19/2014Poor condition--but with a good excuse
I have played this course several times and normally it is in excellent shape. When I checked in this time, the staff member shared that there had been some problems with their watering system, and several places in the fairways were burned up a bit. Also the bunkers were a bit rough. Well, the fairways were more than a bit burned up, the bunkers for whatever reason looked like dirt bunkers and even the greens (which I was told were still in good shape) were a bit questionable. One of the holes, #14, was completely closed, so we were given the option of playing #19--and yes, Phoenix does have a 19th hole. To be fair, the staffer would have offered us a discount--but declined to do this given we had already gotten a discount due to paying via the online discount.
In short, had I never played here before, I would never go back. Given that this time seemed to be an anomaly, I will try it again--next year. Those who venture out this year, however, need to be prepared for less than ideal conditions. I cannot recommend this course this year--but I am fully expecting to be able to recommend it again next year.
The Ridge Golf & Gardens
Played On 10/26/2013Great value for the money
This course has well maintained fairways, greens, and even bunkers. The rough was a bit "rough" but you're not supposed to play from there anyway. It's definitely worth a visit.
