Gulf Links Golf Center
Played On 11/06/2014Great price for a cow pasture
Don't expect a lot. If you can snag the $10 Golf Now deal, go for it. The course is short but not really a piece of cake. It needs a lot of TLC. Greens are bumpy and water areas are nasty. A few holes were confusing where we were going. Walkable for sure. We only saw 3 other people, so the pace was great - played on a Thurs afternoon. Great for your short game. Was surprised that clubhouse restrooms were immaculate.
Ponta Creek Golf Course NAS
Played On 04/25/2014Need background check as of 2-2014. Course needs TLC, but it's cheap.
I knew we would have time to play a round and found this course online. Since my husband was in the Navy many years ago, he wanted to play here. I called to make sure it was open to the public and was told it was. What they failed to tell us was that we would need a background check run before we could enter the base. This is not the case in Pensacola and assumed it would be the same. You'll need 2 pieces of ID, along with vehicle registration and proof if insurance - allow 1/2 hour. As for the course... The layout is nice, a bit narrow in places, but challenging. We played on a Fri afternoon and had no one in front or behind us. It needs TLC though. The greens were patchy. The tee boxes and fairways were not so hot either. Course restroom was nasty (female point of view). They are in the process of finishing a new, large clubhouse so maybe they can then put something into the course. It was only $20 each for 18 with a cart (with GPS!) so for that, it's hard to complain. We had an enjoyable afternoon anyway. You'll probably need GPS to find the course, it's really in the boonies. Doubt if we would play again if ever in Meridian since we've "been there, done that".
