Royal Niagara Golf Club - Escarpment Course
Played On 06/24/2018Don’t waste your time
Booked the tee time for Sunday the 24th at 8:00am (2 weeks prior). Got to the course at about 7:30 only to be told they had a tournament. They could put us on 1 if the 9’s and we could play it twice. Really? Lost the GolfNow booking fee only to have to re-book at Ussher’s Creek (another booking fee)!! They said they would give a reduced rate but never told me the rate but said it would be good ($71/player was booked). Played Ussher’s for $69!!!!

I did like the layout. Very challenging, especially a couple of the par 5's. First, all red clay base and hard as concrete. Appears to not get much water at all. Sand traps look like a mixture of clay and very little sand.
2nd, the greens were in poor shape (well half of them).
It was very hot when I played (low-90's). I had a tee time at 1:30 and the pace was in the 5+ hour range. No marshall that kept things moving. It cost me $35 to play. The condition of the course should yield $25 max/18 (includes cart).
Again, layout is great! Staff is friendly. If they were to were to through a few bucks in it, it would be pretty nice for play.
At anything more than $25, I will not be back.

I liked the layout of the course. Really tested your "target" game. The fairways were spotty with dead grass and about half of the greens were half grass/half bald. Greens had been aerated early in June which made putting even more of a challenge. Staff was VERY friendly. Greens needed some help. Would probably be a great course to play in September/October. A little disappointing that it was not in better shape in mid-June. Temps had been in the mid-90's for several days prior to my play. I would recommend this course to others mainly for the layout but the course does need some attention. For the value (I paid $35 for a 10AM) I would play again. Any more than that, I would probably find somewhere else.

The course itself is rather nice. Some really nice golf holes. Layout I thought was great but their lack of greens really soured my opinion for the course as a whole. 1-3 strokes are played on every green and these were some of the worst I have ever seen. I am not a low handicapper (about a 12) but I consider myself a decent putter. ALL of the greens were roughly more than 50% lost. About 1/2 dirt, 1/2 green "stuff". No grain, nothing really to cut. A real disappointment as I really do like the layout.
My son and I played on June 9th, 2013 and you would think the greens would be in really great shape considering the summer heat had not come yet. When we played, it was low to mid 80's and they have had no 90 degree days yet. They did have about 2-3 inches of rain the Friday before but that would not have done that much damage to the greens in such a short amount of time. The fairways were some of the best I have seen. Wish they would take as much time and care with the greens.
Side note: the practice tee was not setup very well. We had a side hill stance throughout the entire practice area. Not much thought into that part of it either.
I am glad we did not have to pay the full price of about $60/player.
