Black Mountain Golf Course
Played On 09/07/2015Fun Course
Main complaint was the way overbooked tee times, as they placed them 7 minutes apart on a holiday, which caused MAJOR waiting between shots almost the entire round. Fun course, though. Has it's challenging holes, but very playable for all skill levels.
The Tillery Tradition Country Club
Played On 09/06/20154.3 Star Rating...HOW?
I played this course on 09/06/2015. Very interesting course and nice layout, although too narrow for everyday golfers. This course has some big "kahunas" to be charging the rates they do right now. The fairways were showing signs of drought distress, which indicates the facility is being miserly about irrigation, and the greens were in HORRIBLE shape!! All but a few were riddled with bare spots, and they will lose them real soon. This facilioty is still using bent grass in the NC summer heat, and it's well documented that bent grass does NOT survive well in the heat of our summers. They NEED to convert to Bermuda greens like MOST facilities in our area. Charging $50 to play before 2pm and $40 after 2pm for the conditions on this course and especially the BAD greens will keep me away until someone tells me they have fixed these problems.
Eagle Chase Golf Club
Played On 08/30/2015Very Hilly
I have played Eagle Chase many times since it opened. I played there this Sunday, August 30th and the previous Sunday, August 23rd. I would have to say that on the 23rd, the course was in the best shape I'd ever seen it, However, yesterday, some of the greens were showing signs of distress, especially around the fringes, and several brown patches were beginning to form on some of them. The only major complaint I have is the Bermuda rough is WAY too thick and gnarly, and would likely cause even professional golfers to hit poor shots. This rough is entirely unfair to the regular golfer.
Boone Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2015Great Golf Club
Very nice golf club, facility, and excellent course. Immaculate tee boxes, fairways, and greens. I live in Charlotte, NC and chose to try Boone Golf Club to get away from the heat and humidity here. I only rated the weather as good instead of excellent because of a brief 45 minute delay in our round due to a rain shower. Otherwise it only got to 78 degrees in Boone. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the restaurant was nice, with reasonable food and beverage pricing, and the beer was ice cold! Enjoyed our round immensely, and will return to play again
