First course was in good shape. I will give the groundskeepers a gold star for having the the traps in great shape and they actually had sand. Greens can be difficult to putt with winter grass as it is hard to read breaks, and speed varies. Holes are similar to what you see on TV, but I wonder if green size and breaks are the same.as real courses they copied. Also difficult to reproduce the elevation changes like real courses, like #13 at Augusta. All that said, this course is one of the better courses in MB area to play. Condition good, greens good for Feb in SC. I will play again for sure.
Pinehills at Myrtlewood Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2022Good Course for Repeated Play
I like this course. Challenging, in good shape even though it has a ton of play. Greens great, traps pretty good, albeit sometimes they have water long after rain. This is the kind of course that I would like to play often, and not as a one time experience. That is, if I was to select a "home" course this would be the type. So, I play this course often, when in MB, as well as the sister Palmetto course. Two of the best in MB area.
Whispering Woods Golf Club
Played On 05/18/2019Course in Terrible Shape
Played this course on a recommendation. Never again. There is no value for your money here. Basically, a cow pasture is in better shape. If they want people to play this course then perhaps some upkeep is in order.
I won't ever be back even though I live in the area.
Myrtle Beach National Golf Club - West Course
Played On 02/05/2019Enjoyable Course-Prime Times Rate
Course was in great shape especially for this time of year. Cart path only on just one hole. Fairways firm with roll, sand traps actually have sand and the greens I would rate at 90% good condition, and very fast.
I have played at MB National several times in the past year, but not on the West Course since 2015.
I don't know why I don't play it more often as I think it is a nice challenge for a mid level golfer (17 handicap) from the White Tees.
Bottom line, pick a nice day, play this course, I think you'll like the experience.
Meadowlands Golf Course
Played On 01/29/2019This is a Wet Course
As a golf course, this is a nice course with a challenging layout. Problem is, as a Grand Strand Course it has to be one of the wettest. Course today had cart paths on 4 holes (plus par 3s), but it should have been 16 of 18. There was no roll on fairways. The distance you carried the ball was all you got. Greens were fine, but I don't think they have changed the holes in many days as the sides of the holes were turning inward. There was fairly good sand in the traps. Personal were great. All said, I don't think I will be back to play here unless there is a six month drought to
Litchfield Country Club
Played On 01/26/2019Nice Course, Slow Play
I like this course and have played it before when in Myrtle Beach. The course was in good condition, albeit, somewhat wet from all the recent rains in the area. This required cart paths only on 3 or 4 holes. The greens were great, and the bunkers had at least some sand.
Problem we had was slow play. We had a group in front of us that played with no urgency. Although we teed off 15 minutes early, we still barely finished at dark, 4 hours + 45 minutes.
I think since they did a crossover for tee times on the morning round, they should have done the same for the pm. Instead, starter put everyone out on the front nine, while the back nine was wide open.
All that said, I will play here again. Just hope for faster play
Terrace Hill Golf Course
Played On 06/05/2017Fun Course
Private course, but a member can take out three guests and prices are close to most public courses. I have played this course for years. It is wide open so you can recover from bad shots, but there are enough trees and bushes to grab your ball and the wind can be a real factor if blowing. I find the fairway grass is sometimes be a bit long, but the course generally in really nice shape. There is plenty of sand in the traps and there are a lot of them. This is not always the case at courses around here. The greens are excellent, and I have always found them difficult to read and putt. A challenge. Staff people are friendly, and it's generally a nice course.
Cary Country Club
Played On 06/04/2017Course is Average
You wanted a review so here it is. Course has a great layout and it is scenic. However, there is little to no sand in the bunkers. The rough is long. The fairways get mowed on Monday's and Thursday's. Tees seem to be in the same place every weekend. Therefore, the biggest league on Wednesday night plays on fairways that are mowed two days ago. The weekend players, who pay PREMIUM prices to play, get to see fairways and rough that has not been mowed in 3 days (if playing on Sundays). There is no water on the course. You can buy water from coolers on #1 and #10 if you need such. Carts are old, but they get around, but the club cleaner buckets on the sides are lacking in cleaning brushes. I have played for many years out at Cary, but the course in general is a "shadow" of it's former self. I am sure economics come into play, but some common sense could make this course more playable.
