High Cliff Golf Course
Played On 06/12/2020Diverse Layout
High Cliff has one of the most diverse layout of holes in the Fox Valley. Dog legs, length, up and down hills, tricky greens - it is all there. The overall quality of the facility isn't high end like a country club, but the prices are reasonable and the staff friendly. Course was in good shape when we played, greens were firm but not as hard as other couses we have played so far this year.
Chaska Golf Course
Played On 06/06/2020Good Course
I play Chaska often, it is one of the best public tracks in the Fox Valley.
That said, they are a little off their game this year. They lost an enormous willow tree that was right at the dogleg corner on 18, really reducing the importance of a great tee shot. The day we played there was a trap totally dug up and effectively under construction on #7, with no designation as GUR (or anyone working to repair it). Greens were very hard, despite a lot of rain in the past two weeks.
Maybe the COVID crisis has them a little messed up - I sure hope they get back to thd conditions they've had over the last few years.
Oshkosh Country Club
Played On 05/01/2020Classic Wisconsin CC Course
OCC is a classic Wisconsin local country club course. Tree-lined fairways require you to keep the ball on the fairway to score well, the greens are not huge and pretty flat, so you can make some putts. A few tricky doglegs require something other than driver off the tee. Not very long, so there are some scoring opportunities. Played May 1st and the course conditions were fantastic - greens a little firm, sand was soft and consistent all around the course. Staff was great.
The Creeks at Ivy Acres
Played On 08/10/2018Never again
Played and gave this course a poor review last year. Played it again this year using a gift card and if anything it has gotten worse.
Done playing here, even with a free round. Not worth the time.
Mesquite/Ironwood at Kierland Golf Club
Played On 03/09/2018Little less dersert + little more grass = Great golf
The three nines at Kierland have more grass than many of their local counterparts, making them great courses for visiting midwesterners like me. Greens were smooth and pretty quick - look at your putts from every angle to see the breaks. Greens were firm but balls did check up. Many tee box options to match your game.
Off course staff was great - lunch in the grill even included free desert - tough to beat that!
Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 03/08/2018Elevation changes make for interesting golf
Desert Canyon has many significant elevation changes throughout the course that will challenge your club selections. This is the third time we've played it and having some local knowledge is a big help. The overall layout is just great.
Off course you can only hit irons on the practice range, which is a negative; offset by a beautiful bar and grill that was totally redone after a wind storm tore the roof off last year.
Have to give props to the course ranger - we were getting backed up as we got to the 8th - 9th hole and he came by and said he would do something about it and he did. By the 11th hole we were hitting away and moving very quickly.
Monument at Troon North Golf Club
Played On 03/07/2018Great facility, great golf
Troon North Monument is a great layout, you will use almost every club in your bag during the round. Our range finders got a workout, too. Greens were fast, they took a little getting used to. The facility and staff were great, we received first class service.
Raptor at Grayhawk Golf Club
Played On 03/06/2018One notch tougher than Talon
Grayhawk's Raptor course is one notch tougher than the other course on site (Talon), but still very playable and enjoyable. Loved the smooth greens - pretty quick, but once you got a feel for them they were just great. Play the slope on the card, not the yardage to get the right tee boxes for your game.
Grayhawk facility is just outstanding and the people are excellent.
Talon at Grayhawk Golf Club
Played On 03/06/2018First Class Arizona Golf
Talon at Grayhawk is a first class Arizona golf experience. Outstanding practice facility, great pro shop, friendly people, fantastic breakfast and lunch, all supporting a course that is challenging while still being very playable. Greens were firm, rolled very true, were quick but not extremely so. Fairways were wide enough that we were not afraid to pull out the driver at all.
The Creeks at Ivy Acres
Played On 07/16/2017Better courses closer and less expensive
Although the recent changes putting the original two practice holes in play and taking the old 6 and 7 out significantly improved things, the course design still has many greens with three or even four levels that are all but unputtable. Today many of the greens were riddled with bumps from unrepaired ball marks and numerous bare spots. On a couple of holes you can drive your ball in the middle of the fairway and have a sidehill lie with your ball waist high. The design of the 11th hole hasn't worked since the course opened a decade ago - today the corner on that hole is a gaping mud hole that appears to be a trap under construction.
Free range balls and a greatly improved pub are pluses, but sorry to say fundamental issues remain here.
Chaska Golf Course
Played On 07/14/2017In Great Shape
Played today and course is in great shape - we've had a lot of rain this year and i expected it to be a little wet, but things were fine. Greens were good, sand was good as well. Pace of play was fine, saw the beer cart 4 times in 18 holes. Chaska is a solid layout and when conditions are as good as they are right now, it is a great place to play.
Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia
Played On 03/10/2017Worth the Drive
Trilogy provides a number of challenging holes on a fairly flat layout NW of Phoenix. Water around the green of a par 5, a wash area across a fairway at just the right (or wrong) distance, and other features will make you think before reaching for a club. Five sets of tees make it easy to play your game. Starter was great, kept things moving on a crowded day. Worrh the drive.
Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 03/09/2017Great layout, bring your thinking cap
Desert Canyon is true to its name, winding through a canyon that provides many different shot challenges, including a number of pretty significantly elevated tee boxes. Bring your range finder and know how to use it! Greens are smooth and pretty quick, so plan your approach. The view from the grill patio is beautiful.
South at Boulders Golf Club & Resort
Played On 03/08/2017Wonderful views, incredible course
I've played 7 or 8 of the Golf Top 100 You Can Play, Boulders South is on that list and very deservedly so. The views all around the course were wonderful and the course itself was incredible. The layout is challenging but playable - landing areas are big enough to swing away on most driving holes, although many times a targeted shot is best. Greens were quick but not overly so. Sand is very consistent which makes it easier to develop a tactic when hitting out. Course conditions were green and lush - top rate in every way. The staff was friendly and was obviously hustling to keep things moving. One of the best in PHX!
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 03/07/2017Outstanding
We've played here a few times and think the layout is just fantastic - due to all the rain earlier this year the course is in OUTSTANDING condition. Greens are firm and roll very true. Sand is very consistent hole to hole. The staff could not have been better. They were running a special for $10 they would change the spikes on your shoes - heck you can't buy a set of spikes for that.
Stonecreek Golf Club
Played On 03/06/2017Average
Course layout is pretty good, but the overall course condition reflects the high level of play and has many hard and bare spots. The course has 8 min tee times and the practice green and range were very crowded. When we arrived for our round there were no carts pulled out. The whole place seemed a little disorganized.
Good low price round, but many other better tracks in Scottsdale. If you're looking for a high level of golf, go elsewhere.
Cowan Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/03/2017Good layout
Newest course in the Sun City TX development, very well laid out. Multiple tees allows you to play your level easily. Greens have some tricks, if you read greens well that will pay off well here. Played the one day i had for golf while visiting in Feb - 45° and cloudy so I literally had the place to myself. I imagine the place is quite beautiful in season.
Chaska Golf Course
Played On 10/07/2016Excellent Fall Shape
Play here often so i don't post a review every time, but i have to say the greens were in top shape, even though they had been aireated and dressed in Sept.
Course was green, lush, in great fall shape.
Thornberry Creek at Oneida - Legends Championship Course
Played On 10/01/2016Great Fall Round
We were the first foresome out on Sat Oct 1, course was in great shape. Greens were aireated 10 days before so they were still pretty bumpy, but that is fall golf around here. A beautiful course in fall.
Links at Lawsonia Golf Course
Played On 09/19/2016Bring Your Best Iron Game
We played both the Woodlands and Links on 9/19.
Links was in great shape, greens were firm and fast and every one was elevated - bring your best iron game, every approach needs to be well planned. Sand was in better shape here than on the Woodlands. We paid $100 to play all day and had a great time - we're already planning on a visit there same time next year.
Happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us and the conditions were on par, come back soon!
Wow! What an outstanding review! Thank you so much for your compliments regarding the course conditions and staff. Our entire team will be delighted to hear your kind words. Stay warm up in WI and please visit us again soon!
