Long time member

I've been playing the course every since I was born - grew up in the neighborhood and my family's been a member the last 20+ years. It's been under different management, but you can tell current management is really trying to turn it into a world class course. Though they've made aesthetic updates to the club house and added a few amenities, they have A TON of work to do. I'm posting this partly because I hope management sees this.

First, the course is in absolutely horrendous condition. I played Cog Hill #3 - which gets just as many outings and play - the other day. This course, which is about half the price of RF, blew RF out of the water in terms of its shape. At RF, the greens are absolutely covered in ball marks. It's like putting on the moon there's so many craters. Moreover, fairways and tee boxes are filled with divots. Not to mention, the tee boxes are extremely uneven in most places. I don't know if this is because of outings and/or cheap twilight rates, but it is clear that the golfers have no respect for the course. Not to mention, in areas where the course can control the conditions, they're still terrible.

The pace of play is also an absolute joke. I haven't played past 720 am in the last month due to this, but previously, a weekend round would be well over 5 hours. I've even had 2 or 3 6-hour rounds! This is absolutely unacceptable.

If you don't have a range finder or a GPS, don't bother showing up. The distance markers are either absent or not accurate. A few years back, they had GPS in the carts, so the put yardage markers from one hole on others and never changed them back. So, holes either have no yardage markers or markers that belong on other holes. Moreover, they got new scorecards that don't have a course layout on it; there's absolutely no way for golfers that are unfamiliar with the course to know the hole lay out.

Not to mention, the course doesn't even have any water fountains or coolers on the course. They used to have them, but got rid of them for some reason.

Despite that, I absolutely love the course - the layout is wonderful and challenging. RF is truly a must play. The staff there is also as nice as could be and the food at the grill is amazing - I frequently order carry out from there. However, they have serious changes to make to the course if they want to charge $100 per round - and it starts with improving conditions.

Great Experience

Absolutely an amazing course; not sure why people are at all critical of it. Sure, $155 is a lot for a round of golf, but the price is designed to weed out some golfers. If the course got too much play, it wouldn't be in the world class shape that it is. The conditions are wonderful. No ball marks, few divots on the tee boxes or fairway. Wonderful shape.

Bunkers are everywhere on the course, which makes up for the lack of water hazards. They're very firm - at first I hated them. However, after spending more time in them, I began to love them. Though you can't explode the ball out of there, they're extremely consistent and makes hitting over a five foot bunker wall relatively easy.

Also not sure why people say its not scenic; if you love and appreciate golf, you won't be short of great views. The elevated tee boxes and design of sand traps give nearly every box a beautiful sight.

Pace of play is also wonderful - there are many rangers out pushing groups along. I played as a two-some one Sunday morning and didn't have to wait at all.

Not too sure either why the pros complained of sand traps and greens. The traps make up for the lack of water and the greens are not as difficult as people claim. I really hope the PGA brings a tournament back to this course - it truly is deserving of one.
