Plantation on Crystal River - Lagoons Course
Played On 04/10/2023Greens good, rest okay
I played this course for the first time in six years as I always played World Woods while passing through, but with WW under construction and $400 green fees coming that's no longer an option. Greens are in good enough shape and fairways are okay, not great. However, the course has a run down look and some of the turf is not good. Plantation, here's what you should do: Spend $5 million to completely rebuild the course, clubhouse and villas. With the way golf is booming and with people pouring into the area, this investment will pay off in spades. Do it. You have a gem of a layout and this will make this a true golf destination.
Brazell's Creek Golf Course
Played On 12/06/2022Greens are now amazingly good
I've played this course probably 2-3 times per year over the past 10 years, and the greens have always been okay, nothing great...until I played December 6. They are in incredibly good condition - not quite perfect, but very close. The GM told me they are making conditioning a priority at the Georgia State Parks courses, and Brazell's Creek has benefitted.

Played On 01/13/2021Course Better Than Other Reviews Suggest
I play here 1-2 times a year when I pass through the area. Other reviews have made mention that the course is not in good condition and that the greens were poor. Here is an accurate description of the way the course is as of January 13, 2021. GREENS - Most are actually in good shape; a few have some blotches on them that I believe are algae. But even then, the rye overseed is growing in them and they're smooth. When the overseed dies out in the spring, though, all bets are off. FAIRWAYS - In okay, playable shape. ROUGH - mix of grass, weeds and dirt. TEE BOXES - Same as rough except cut down. Playable. So the course is not perfect. A member told me maybe 18 months ago when I played there that the maintenance budget had been cut $40,000. If that was true, I understand from a financial point of view but that always starts the vicious circle. Need to keep the course in good shape at all costs. In any event, if you're okay with decent greens (as of now), fair fairways and rough rough, you'll like the course. I've always enjoyed the layout personally.

Played On 07/30/2017Nice Private Course
Our group has played a tournament here for the past few years, courtesy of the club. The course itself is well-designed, not too tough but it does have a few challenging holes, and it's in impeccable condition. Nothing tricky about the course, just a good honest layout where everything is in front of you. If you get a chance to play it, you will enjoy it.

Played On 09/20/2016Very Undulating Greens - Very Unique Course
I first drove by this course a few years ago and saw it was clearly under construction, so when I had an opportunity to play it, I read the reviews on here and decided to give it a try. It's one of the most unique courses I've ever played, with the Australian sand belt look. I would rate this course as enjoyable, but the huge flaw to me were the extremely undulating greens. I realize what they were trying to do here with sectioning the greens, a great idea, but they way overdid it. Had the undulations been reduced to what I would consider reasonable, this would truly be a great course and I would have given it 5 stars. Having said that, the greens are NOT unfair, just overdone.

Played On 06/18/2016COURSE CLOSED - A GOLF TRAGEDY
Sadly, this course closed its doors on Monday, June 27, 2016. Not because it wasn't profitable, but because the management company and the owner could not come to a mutually agreeable contract. This course offered country club conditions with perfect, and I mean perfect, greens. It was out in the middle of nowhere, which added to its appeal, with no houses to mar the view. A total shame. Hopefully something will be done to re-open this course, and soon.

Played On 10/29/2015Not a bad course at all
I've played this course a couple of times in the past. It's an old-style course that winds through the pine trees of southern South Carolina. The condition is average to good, so it's not great but it's acceptable. The greens rolled true but were of medium, speed, neither fast nor slow. And I'm not sure what the other review is talking about, a fee of $46. You can walk the course during the week for $14. Overall, if you're close to Barnwell, you won't be disappointed.

Played On 09/12/2014Nice course
I make a point to play this course 2-3 times a year, even though I live about 90 minutes away. I enjoy the country drive and getting away for the day. This is an old-style course among the pine trees with a good variety of holes. The greens are generally in good shape, but the day of this review, they were very good. Most people will consider this a fun course to play, not a great one, but good enough. And as an inside tip, although this course is just 25 minutes south of the loop around Augusta, during Masters week it doesn't charge more to play like the other courses in Augusta do.

Played On 07/24/2014One of my favorite courses
This is a hidden gem, and I almost hate writing this review to make it more publicly known. Every hole is lined with beautiful oak trees. The holes themselves are not difficult, but the word for each one is fun. Some of the holes, like #2, have different options. The course is generally in good shape, and I've played it at times when it was in excellent shape. Having said all this, if you want a fancy course with perfect turf and hard holes, this is not for you. If you want a peaceful, fun country course to play, this is for you.
We appreciate the support and great review! Always love having you out on the course! See you soon!
Thank you for your review! We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Chiefland Golf & Country Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
