Winter Park Golf Course
Played On 02/11/2021Candler Hills Golf Club
Played On 02/29/2020Great course - Prickly staff
I have played Candler multiple times and love the course. Playing here requires that on normal days you navigate the conditions that come with being located in an over 55 community, meaning if your tee time is 1:00P, you do not go out a moment earlier whether the course is empty or not. Rules are rules.
Today we had a 1:00P tee time and they were running 25 minutes behind because someone allocated 3.5 hours for a 9:00A tournament to finish. Not sure about you, but I have never played in a golf tournament anywhere that finished in under four hours. Anyway, because of that cash grab, that meant everyone playing in the afternoon was delayed significantly. not the end of the world, but adding insult to injury we pulled up to hear the starter blaming the three groups stacked on the tee box for being there, suggesting they needed to wait to be sent to the first tee from the clubhouse. So 1:00P means 1:00P when good for them, but when they whiff, they blame the customer for being in the way??
It is a great course and one everyone should try. But their customer service is questionable at best and needs a serious amount of attention.
EastWood Golf Course
Played On 02/24/2018Worst greens I have ever seen
I used to play Eastwood all the time 10+ years ago. It can be a fun little track... But years of low to no maintenance have left this course pretty much a goat ranch. Sand has been allowed to grow in with grass, rough looks like something out of an old western movie and the greens were the worst I have ever seen. I heard that the folks at Eastwood replaced the greens in 2017, so I went out to play an inexpensive Saturday morning round and see for myself. If you can avoid the need to putt through the GIANT burned out and bug eaten patches on 2/3 of the greens, they actually roll nicely. The problem is that the patches are so prevalent, that I had to putt through this "ground under repair" on a third of my greens. Do yourself a favor and pay a few more bucks to play somewhere else...
I also had to laugh when I walked up and the clubhouse told me the rate was $45/person when every single tee time on Golfnow was $29.99 with no restrictions. If you really do want to play there, make sure you grab an online round (I did while standing at the checkout counter).
Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2014No way this a four star course
We had a free afternoon, got on Golfnow and found what we thought was a highly rated course for a good price. The course is fine, NOTHING notable or exceptional to make it stand out from all the other options and surrounded by houses built in the 1960's.
I mean no disrespect as there was nothing really wrong with the course, but there is no way this place deserves 4.1 stars as a rating. It is not expensive (but their normal rates are not cheap either). I have no idea why this place would be any more than 2.5 to 3 stars total.
Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club
Played On 02/15/2014Worth the trip?
We live in Orlando and had heard so many great things about World Woods, so we packed up and made a weekend out of it so we could try both courses. For the rate we paid on Golfnow, we feel it was worth the trip. To pay their normal rates? No way. There is so much quality golf in Central Florida, that the two hour drive makes no sense. The Pine Barrens course was different than most courses in Florida and was fun to play. The course itself was in good shape and the staff was very friendly (with the exception of the young lady in the pro shop checking us in...)
EastWood Golf Course
Played On 06/23/2013Course has never been in worse shape...
I have lived in the area and played Eastwood for at least 15 years. I do not remember a itme when the course looked worse than my round yesterday. The rain certainly has had something to do witht that, but it does not excuse the weeds growing all over the place in the sand traps or the shabby overall appearance these days.
Spend a few more bucks and head to another nearby course., at least until they improve out at Eastwood.
Eagle Creek Golf Club
Played On 6/9/2013Overrated
I made a tee time at EAgle Creek specifically because of it's 4.5 star rating on Golf Now. The course was nice, but when you expect a fantastic experience and get no better than average, you walk away disappointed.
The course itself was in good shape and played well. The greens were solid as well. But from the snack bar girl who decided to leave for 15 minutes when we hit the turn with no backup to the guys handling the carts at the end of the round who did not even TRY to offer assistance, we were underwhelmed.
Don't avoid this course, but know that it is most certainly not a 4.5 star course. It compares to a Stoneybrook or NorthSHore, not the Ritz Carlton...
Candler Hills Golf Club
Played On 02/09/2013Great Course
The course itself was in great shape and was a challenge to 20 handicap player. Had an issue with the ranger who aske dus to pick up our pace even though we played in exactly four hours. But otherwise, staff wa svery freindly and helpful.
Huntington Golf Club
Played On 11/22/2012Nice people, poor conditions.
This course really is a poor excuse for golf. 15 of 18 greens required we putt through giant sand repairs (not aerating, just no grass...). We paid $16 a piece for a round through Golf Now and felt like we overpaid. The people at the course were very friendly, but this course is a joke.
