Santa Anita Golf Course
Played On 06/10/2016Not what it once was, but still worth the trip.
The water situation in California has taken it's toll on this course. Santa Anita was always a course with lush greens, fairways, and rough; unfortunately, due to the water restrictions there are a lot more brown spots and hardpans. The fairways are still decent, but I found myself bumping my ball in a few fairways to get off of dirt after hitting a good tee shot. The greens are very soft and receptive, but extremely slow. I don't know the stimp number, but they are about the slowest I've ever played on. Pace of play on weekends is generally 5+ hours, but the staff is friendly, the food is good and it's still an overall enjoyable experience. For the money, this is still a good value golf course. Not the most challenging, so it's a good track for high handicappers and older players.
North at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/09/2016Great Courses at Los Serranos
The North Course is sort of the little brother of the two courses, but it's still a great track overall. The course is in good shape and the greens are fantastic. These are probably the fastest, smoothest greens out of any of the local courses. The layout is shorter than the South course, but I find that some of the holes are actually more challenging despite being noticeably shorter. Pace of play is average here, just depends on the day. Overall, it's a solid value for the price and will provide you with an enjoyable experience.
Mountain Meadows Golf Course
Played On 06/05/2016Good shape, decent value.
The course is in great condition compared to other local courses. You can really see how Mountain Meadows benefits from having reclaimed water during this drought. The fairways are plush and green and the greens are quick and smooth. The layout is a bit odd with a few "funky" holes that can prove to be challenging or annoying depending on your perspective. The only real downside is the pace of play; most weekend rounds are 5+ hours so have a few cold ones ready. Overall, I would recommend this course for a casual round for average to advanced golfers; beginners will struggle.
Lost Canyons Golf Club - Shadow Course
Played On 02/22/2014Could Be Great...
Played the Sky Course today which is still playable, but needs some maintenance. Tee Boxes were uneven, sandy and bare. Fairways were hit or miss, but usually thing. The Greens were fair. The views on this course are beautiful and it has so much potential if it were just better maintained. Take your $85 elsewhere until management decides to actually take care of the course.
DO NOT play the Shadow Course. It is completely dead and will be used for land development. They should have it closed, but instead are swindling unsuspecting players out of $45.
Number One at Brookside Golf Club
Played On 12/23/2013Slow Slow Slow
Pace of play here has become a huge problem. Most rounds here take between 5 and 5 1/2 hours on either course. Last time I played, I quit after 9 holes because it had already taken 3 hours. There usually isn't a marshal trying to speed groups up; groups that are 1 or 2 holes behind just continue to play at a slow pace backing up the entire course. Conditions are usually fair - the greens are kept pretty nice, but the fairways can be a little thin with some brown patches. Overall, the course is worth playing, but make sure you have at least 5 hours.
The Links at Summerly
Played On 6/17/2013Needs water and seeding!
The layout and design of the course is great, however, the playing conditions are terrible. There are dead dirt patches all over most of the fairways and just a lot of brown everywhere else. If this course actually received the appropriate amount of water and seeding it would be a great experience. Until the upkeep is better, I would not recommend playing this course unless you have no other options.
