Pinelands Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2020Hidden Gem
It's the rare course that is not lined with townhomes and residential encroachments. This hidden gem is surrounded by thick wooded area through the green. The greens, having been aerated and tended carefully this summer, are in good condition. They are occasionally protected by a fish pond or two and the par 3's make an effort to sport 'sand' traps. I was there the day that they (previous owners) dumped the chopped coral shells in the sand traps. This material is not regarded well by any players , myself included- takes a little getting used to- best to steer clear.
Think about walking here. It is a walking game after all. Carts are on their last leg, that's if you can get one. I imagine that there is a collection of 'dead soldiers' waiting repair somewhere out of sight. It's an extra $10 for a solo ride, pandemic not in existence at PGC, apparently.
If you are a golfer that has trouble staying dead straight or at least in the fairway, make sure that you bring a few extra sleeves of balls. The leaves are thick and fluffy- all 300 billion of them. Tree lines are leave lines and that's a gone ball. Pace is slow when golfers can't accept a lost ball. Pace of play depends on the handicap and the determination of searchers.
The greens fees are between $30 and $45 get it while you can. New owner and plenty of improvements are underway. Almost certainly the greens fees will shoot up come the spring. So $50-$75 wouldn't surprise me. The new owner and therefore the staff that he selects are usually always smiling. There was one inexplicably grumpy ranger, but that's not uncommon, now is it? Interesting layout. Good challenging greens. Great value. On the ascendancy. I'd say go play- if not here somewhere -and try walking!

Pace of play for a Friday was smooth and at well managed intervals. Could tell that a lot of TLC has been and continues to be invested in ground maintenance. Greens were faster than expected. It looks like the dawn of a great season, here’s hoping!

Greens rolled tight and true. Preparations for the season part of obvious attentive care taking (aeration) around the collars of the greens- signs of a well kept track bracing for summer play. I can’t wait to get back and try the very enjoyable layout. Staff was very relaxed and made our group feel comfortable and it was fun! Blue skies, sunny day, and sweet short green grass. All golf courses are in place to have fun with friends and testing skills. Thumbs up for White Oaks

Just played two courses mid state, gulf-side of Fla last week. Coming back to the tree lined, somewhat narrow fairways felt like an iron instead of driver. Still the greens were well kept, perhaps a bit inconsistent one to the next. We were grateful for the chance to slip in a round before yet another March snowstorm! The staff are professional and friendly- the bar and restaurant are on par. On a 45 degree day the cart-girl was bundled up and in service

I fell in love with the 10th hole. I didn't play it correctly, but it is beautifully layed out. Rolling upgrade side slope on several holes. The maintenance funding seems to be an issue. As in mowing, ground repair and manicure issues. We had a very nice time. It's got very good bones and some TLC would bring this gem back on the front page.
I did jump from the 10th hole to the adjacent 15th hole. The 11th hole is located down the road a piece, then after 14th back up the road a piece, We played the lost holes after 18 and the staff was very accommodating

The summer heat and under resourced staff make it hard to see the great bones that define the challenging well designed layout for most, but not all f the holes. Careful to go from #10 to #11 (we went the wrong way). The mgmt was friendly and let us replay the holes we missed NP. Carts are electric and new. I really like the old holes. 27 holes have been honed down to 18. A mixed bag with a few outstanding topography

Polite staff. Bag Drop and upscale dining room/bar area. Course layout a bit on the challenging side with risk/reward for those shot shapers and target golfers. I honestly had a great day. Not that I played my best- as my first time there I was like a kid in a candy store- Thanks for the discount. I certainly will be back with my friends!!
