Must Play

I read all the other reviews for Bear's Best. I don't see how it can possibly get such poor ratings. It's one of the best courses I've played. My only grip about the course conditions were the greens. They were long and very slow. Slowest I've played in a long time. My other grip was the pace of play. There was a tournament in front of us and even with best ball the pace of play was horrible. Many of them seemed like they'd never played golf. All in all though an immaculate course with a great layout.

Best course in the Knoxville area for the money

I absolutely love this course. When I come to Knoxville I prefer to play it. There is usually very little play on the course which makes for great pace of play. The course is challenging; especially with back nine. If you can master the undulating greens you'll save yourself many shots. I played a few courses in Knoxville over the weekend and many were losing their fairways due to the cold winter. WindRiver is no exception; especially the back nine. Hopefully they can recover them.

Better than the East Course. An "ok" course.

Played both 18's on this day. The last few holes of this 18 are pretty good holes. This 18 is not as tricked up as the East Course. If you play 18 here play this course. The course value is about right for the price. Nothing exceptional but worth playing.

Decent course for the money; not much more

This course is "ok". It is priced correctly though. There is a span of holes that runs along a river which are EXTREMELY tight. A few holes are layed out oddly. There are huge trees sitting in the middle of fairways and if you haven't played before you won't know how to play the holes.

Only play this course if you want a good view of the Pacific

This course is horrible. One of the least maintained courses I've ever played. With the views of the Pacific though this place stays packed. If I was the city I wouldn't pump any money into it either if it's bringing in all the revenue. The course is a joke and hackers are everywhere. BUT, the views on the back 9 are the best around. It would be amazing what this course would be if they cared about maintaining it.

Probably the best value for the money I've ever experienced

I played both courses in November of 2013 and then again over the 2013/2014 New Years. This is by far the best golf for the money I've ever experienced and I've been playing for 25 years. Pace of play is very acceptable due to the value and number of players who could be on the course. The course is in great shape. The clubhouse food was surprisingly great. I played Blackhorse and Bayonet, Ranch Canada, Pastiatempo, Half Moon Bay, and Pacific Grove on my trip. Only Pastiatempo is a better course. Blackhorse and Bayonet just edge out Half Moon Bay. Play if you can!

Best Course in Northern California I've played

I played Blackhorse and Bayonet, Ranch Canada, Pastiatempo, Half Moon Bay, and Pacific Grove on my trip. Pastiatempo is in a league of its own. Outstanding course! If you want a challenge you have it with this course. These greens are the toughest I've ever played on due to speed and slopes. But they roll true. An amazing golf experience. Best I've probably ever had. Play this course ASAP.

A great golf experience

I had been told the Old Course is more of a challenge and better golf course. I was told the views weren't quite as nice but numbers 17 and 18 have the best views I've seen on a course. Playing number 18 may be the best golf experience I've had. The other 16 holes are great too. Course is in great shape. Besides a mix up with where my car was parked by Valet and car alarms going off at the Ritz while playing 17 and 18 this was amazing. If you play near sunset the Bagpipes send chills down your spine. Play this course.

Immaculately maintained course with sparse crowds. One of the more challenging courses in the Atlanta area.

Played the course on Mother's Day and there were very few golfers. Maybe saw 2 other groups all day. Great clubhouse. the range is crowded by trees which is odd. Very hilly course for the south side of Atlanta. In EXCELLENT shape. One of the better maintained courses in Atlanta. Small greens, narrow spots to hit off off tees, and a very hilly course make this an extremely challenging course. This may explain the sparse crowds. For the money and location (not a bad drive) I'd recommend everyone play once and then decide if it's too challenging.

The Lion is a a good course to play in the Atlanta area. Due to it's ease of access and price it's recommended.

The Lion's condition can be hit or miss. I've played it times when it's been in great shape and then come back two weeks later and it had taken a turn for the worse. Heat seems to give it difficulty. The layout is great. It's fair and challenging with a good bit of elevation changes. Another plus is the pace of play. I play this course many times due to the fact I can get a round in quickly. Even with the drive it takes less time to play than other Atlanta area courses. Due to it being right off 20 the drive is quick with all interstate. The prices are much better than other Atlanta course. The course isn't great but when you factor in the other factors it's a good bet.
