Best Value Going

I have played Harker's before and I will play it again - as much as possible. If you're a course snob this place probably isn't for you. But for the average to intermediate golfer, this place can't be beat - and for beginners (or trying to teach one) this is it. Hands down you can't beat $30 for 18 holes with a cart. I paid triple the weekend before and quite honestly - not sure why - it was the same driving distance. Sure - the fairways are a little rough here and the bunkers are not in good shape, but the greens are fantastic. The staff couldn't be nicer and the $9.00 lunch deal (any food item with a free 1/2 pitcher of beer) means you played 18 holes with a cart (with some spectacular views), excellent food and beer for $39 bucks. You tell me where to find better value than that - I am all ears. Oh - not to mention they give you a "Bounce Back" coupon that allows you 2 for 1 greens fees if you come back within 6 days. Sure - this caters to the more local crowd but because I played on Sunday I could use it the following Saturday - so another round with a friend for $15. Yep - 5 stars folks.

The views at the higher points are stunning and 18 back to the clubhouse is great. I am glad this place exists and I hope it stays true to itself - make the improvements necessary but don't jack the rates because you "can".

Jokingly - my only complaint is they got away from the old logo on the shirts - I like my 1939 and swinging stick figure short! I forgive you! Ha.

Looking forward to heading back soon!

Impressed by the upkeep!

Have played this course a few times this year - most recently a week ago. Love the wide open front nine and the slightly more challenging back. Some real pretty holes on this course.

What impressed me the most was how wonderfully maintained the course was for this time of year. Very obvious the staff has not given up as the "season" is not in full swing. The absence of leaves and well kept greens (very fast btw) was really nice. Played many course in the late fall and the frustration of losing a perfectly hit fairway ball in a pile of leaves is maddening. No such thing at Mattawang. The lost balls were all MY fault!

Decent Round

Four of us played a round this past Saturday for a pals birthday. The course was in decent shape for being so late and we enjoyed it but we had one real issue - the staff person in the clubhouse was pretty rude. We showed fairly early (about 25 min or so before our tee time) and noticed there was ZERO back up. We stated we were early and she bluntly said, "come back at 2". When inquiring why we couldn't just get an early start we were told, "We don't allow golfnow specials out any time BUT the scheduled tee time." No sorry or tactful explanation. Felt like because we booked through GN and didn't pay the full $70 (which the course is NOT worth btw) we were taking money out of her pocket. I don't know, maybe they had a bad day. Overall, the experience was fine and the course is worth it for below $40.

Hope you REALLY like hills!

The "Hills" in Gypsy Hills really lives up to it's name. Stopped by here on the way back to NYC from an Atlanta road trip for a round. On the plus side, it was only $18 - which is a good thing because anything over that really would be tough to swallow. The course is hilly. It's seems like it's built into a recreational park - I say seems because I am not from the area. Lot's of blind shots and no flat lies. It's not marked so well and 17 was really hard to tell which way to approach the hole as it looked like it had two fairways. It's good for a quick cheap round but that's about it. I will say the back 9 was better taken care of than the front. Happy to hit the course on a break from driving but wouldn't seek it out.

Amazing Course

If you get a chance to play here, you should. Was fortunate to be in Atlanta for vacation and told the people I was playing with I will pick a course through GolfNow. When I mentioned Bears Best was an option they told me to jump on it. It was a good move. You're immediately greeted with a panoramic view of lush greens and gorgeous homes on the horizon. The marshals and starters tend to your every need and give a nice orientation as to what to expect. You're then escorted to the first hole which immediately sets the tone for the rest of the course. Each hole is a replica of some of Jack Nicklaus' best courses around the globe. The views are breathtaking and some of the homes that surround the course are big enough to be B&B's. Well maintained courses and greens envelope you and wildlife is all around - deer galore that you almost have to shoo away before teeing off. This course was a real treat and for the amazing price of $63 for our round (on a Saturday - thank you GolfNow!!!) it was a no brainer. And a great pro shop to boot. Play this if you can.

Very good value.

I was down in the Atlanta area for vacation and picked a few courses to play while in town. The Hooch worked great as it was only 15 min from where I was staying and you couldn't beat the deal for some of the tee times on GolfNow. In terms of the course, it has a few challenges and I think the back nine is better than the front. The course was fairly well maintained and except for one day (I played the course three times over the week) the pace was fine. It was perfect for a quick round to get out and play - but if there's others in the area that are better.

OK if you pay under $35

This was the second time I played Rolling Greens this year. The first was late April/early May as the season was starting. Back then, the conditions weren't great - lots of downed tree limbs, leaves everywhere, and soggy. I gave it the benefit of the doubt as it was early. Well, it wasn't much different Sunday September 15th. Granted, there was a bit of weather the day prior so I don't want to completely undermine the grounds keeping, but it sure seemed like more effort could have been made to clear some of the major tree limbs and leaves. Took longer trying to find balls that never should have been lost.

For under $35, it's worth the round - if you can get the $22 - $26 pre-pay, for sure. The normal $35 - $39 no way. The flow isn't spectacular and the fairways are tight - as my golf partner that day put it, "It seemed like they tried to squeeze and extra 9 holes on a 9 hole sized course."

Overall - I would go back in a pinch if I had nothing else lined up and I was really wanting to play - but it would have to be discounted.

One of the best!

From pulling into the parking lot and seeing the gorgeous stone clubhouse and pro shop to walking up 18 to the wide open back patio, Architects is a visual joy. Each hole designed in the style of an old hole architect, you are treated to wonderful designed from 1 - 18. Surrounded by gorgeous mountainous views, fountains, and creeks, this course is a pleasure to play. Open enough for the novice and still challenging enough for the more seasoned players, it has it all. The greens and fairways were meticulously taken care of. Holes well marked with great signage and the flow was fantastic. I highly suggest grabbing the yardage book for $3.75 from the pro shop. Not only does it give a great look prior to teeing off each page is a little history lesson about the hole and the architects it's designed after. Really added to the experience.

The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Just an overall great experience - and with the Golfnow.com deal (included free range balls) it really couldn't be beat. We liked this place so much we grabbed a member packet (it is semi-private) and are considering joining.

Well worth it for what it is.

Decided to hit up this 9 hole track up in the Bronx while waiting for my better half to attend a staff meeting on a Friday. Wasn't sure what to expect as it's deep in the Bronx right in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice and enclosed the course was and how well maintained it was. It's a short course (par 32) so it's perfect for a nice quick round to get out there. And with the $12 with cart deal for nine (and only another $16 to go around again) it really couldn't be beat. Staff was great and very accommodating and it didn't hurt (I was playing solo) that I got matched up with some very nice people. This place isn't Pebble Beach, but its a nice little course for what it is.

Long pace but good value

Maple Moor was a good course. Very crowded and the pace was slow but we had a foursome in front of us which never golfed. Had to have patience but we all start somewhere. Course condition was ok - greens a little burnt but overall in good shape given the amount of rain the prior night. A little noisy towards the left of the course as it does hug the very traveled Hutchinson River Parkway but well covered so you couldn't really see the vehicles. I personally am willing to travel a little further to the west courses of NJ but for the $35 with cart it was absolutely worth it. And the carts had NAV screens with hole layouts and yardage which was a real nice touch.

We really liked the bar/restaurant with the deck overlooking 18. They made quick sandwiches (one we took on the course) and a good beer selection.

Decent pro shop too - actually picked up new Taylor Made driver for a really good price.

Would play Maple Moor again for sure.

Great for what it is!

We had great time at this course. Due to the massive amount of rain it was a tad soggy but I don't fault them for that. Got a GREAT online deal for $15 a person plus cart so it was WELL worth it. Very nice area, quiet, and a wonderful staff. Perfect course for the beginner or mid-range as practice. It's a short course with a lot of par 3's so you can play pretty fast.
