Fun layout. Very scenic. There is one green to tee ride of about a half mile. Ample fairways. Many holes are very challenging on the approach. Sand bunkers are mediocre. Lots of gravel and course sand. We played after a heavy rain and the course was soaked but had drained well. Unless you can carry the ball over 230-240, move up. The 4 pars are very long from the white tees. There is plenty of challenge from Gold. Review by two seniors.
Cherry Blossom Golf Course & Country Club
Played On 05/02/2013Very nice layout, well maintained, challenging but not unfair.
This semi private course is a very good value, thanks to Golf Now.. The course is in good shape, well maintained, with range and snack facilities. The staff was very accommodating and the pace of play was good. Even though the course is associated with a housing development, the houses are well back and many of the holes do not have houses on them. Water and creeks come into play on many of the holes. The greens rolled true, and were interesting but fair and fast enough to keep you alert. Carts have GPS so yardages are no mystery, even on a first visit. 12 & 18 are visually intimidating, but fun holes with water and really pretty views. We plan to return as often as possible.
Longview Golf Course
Played On 4/30/2013Good layout struggling to maintain condition fitting the course.
Longview has made some good strides in the last year. The fairways are growing in, and the staff/ownership is trying. Signs of neglect are everywhere, unfortunately. Tee boxes without a good lie...cart paths unpatched, bare areas in fairways, unmown rough areas...The cafe/snack bar staff is very good, the front desk "pro" was preoccupied and did not acknowledge our presence when we went in for a snack at the turn...We were told there was a shortage of willing workers, even though they were trying to hire..I can sure believe that!!...I did see an active mower, but he was cutting an area that does not come into play, when his time would have been much better put to use in some of the over grown rough areas. The greens were pretty good. They will hold a shot, and they putted true. I love this course design, and hope they bring it up to a much higher standard. I will be happy to play there again and see what progress they are making, as the layout is so good...
Old Silo Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2012Challenging but fair..drive up and look if you havent seen the course before. The blind shots aren't all that straightforward.
YOU GOTTA PLAY THIS COURSE!! IT'S WELL WORTH THE DRIVE TO MT. STERLING! This was my second round, and we played with a veteran of the course, so it went much better. This is a challenging course that is unbelievably beautiful, but you need a sky caddie or a local to really play it well. It is visually intimidating in several areas, and even though there is plenty of room for even duffers, it doesn't always look like it. Blind shots and shots off elevated tees require a bit of knowledge that just isn't available without a local or a skycaddie. Dont' take this as negative,by all means, play the course, and you will enjoy the day, for sure...just be warned, that you might need to take a minute and drive up to the top of the blind shot and take a look....it is a fun, lovely course and thanks to Golf Now, it's very affordable, just keep your eyes open for bargain tee times...We got behind a money game, and that slowed us down.. the pace of play is usually quite good...
