Time is taking its toll

I’ve played this course numerous times and love the layout, but haven’t played it in a number of years. Unfortunately, this time, it was disappointing on a number of levels.. Starter said the greens has been sanded but ran true. And, the practice green wasn’t bad, but the actual greens were running about a 5 and showed signs of severe damage and did not run true at all. I honestly wondered if they had been lost. Starter also said they would be monitoring pace, yet we had a 5 hour round. Cart paths, railroad ties, are all in need of replacement. Waste areas are hard, not maintained and just not what they were. The positive was that the bunkers were raked and had good sand in them, but, unfortunately, that’s about my only positive take away. I don’t know if the issues are still related to COViD, or if there has been a change or ownership or simply poor management. I have always enjoyed this course and don’t like giving this course a poor review, but, the conditions don’t warrant anything else.

Not what she used to be

Heathland is a great layout, but, unfortunately, Father Time seems to be taking its tole. It simply isn’t maintained in the manner that it used to be. Cart paths, bunkering, railroad ties, etc are very aged. Plus bunkers are not being maintained (raked). Almost fell off the bench at the bag drop because it was loose. Bag person said he reported it several months ago, but it still hasn’t been repaired. Not sure if there has been a change of ownership, whether COVID is still having a significant impact or whether management is lacking. I suppose the value is still decent as the greens fee also includes breakfast and lunch. Don’t like having to give this course a poor review, but, conditions just don’t warrant anything else.

Boulders like I've never seen them

Extremely scenic course. We played Front North and Front South. Seems as if it was designed so that on almost every hole you see a huge backdrop of boulders and/or homes built into them. Would give it 5 stars had it not been for the fairways which were a thin here and there. Otherwise, very nice and would certainly play again.

Great Condition/Poor Value

Enjoyed the course as it was in very good condition and because the par 3's are very scenic. My hesitation in recommending it is due to its high cost (for golf and food/drink) in relation to many others that are lower and closer and its temporary facilities. They could also improve the signage (got lost a couple of times). If they had good facilities and were reasonable in costs, it would be a 5 star for sure.

Management here "Gets it"

I have played this course a number of times and it is consistently a great experience.. Staff is friendly and the tees, fairways and greens are very nice as was the pace. Nice layout as well. For the value, I'm not sure there is a better course in the Orlando area. The fees are the same no matter if you are a local or a visitor and they are very reasonable. Others seem to want to inflate the rates for the visitor. It seems as if the management here simply "Gets it" at all levels. Well done and keep up the great work!

Surprisingly Disappointing

On the positive side, the initial contact with the pro shop staff was very nice on the phone when booking the tee time. We started to book on the course's web site, but we were concerned whether we would finish before sunset, so we called the course directly. When they indicated that we would not likely finish, they offered to book us at a slightly earlier time at the same reduced afternoon rate. They didn't have to give us the reduced rate, but did and we were very pleased and thanked them for extending that courtesy. While reduced, to be honest, we still felt we were paying a premium price, albeit, less than what it would have normally been. We even mentioned this courtesy when we checked in at the course. Given the booking experience and the many other positive reviews, we were really looking forward to a great day, but it didn't turnout that way. Hopefully, ours was an isolated event. After check-in, we were told to report to staff near the carts. Finally someone appeared who told us where the range was located and that we should wait on the range for someone to come get us for our tee time. Someone never showed up. We went to the first tee ourselves as our tee time was upon us. We found at least four groups stacked up waiting to play and in speaking with some of them, we learned that some were playing a re-play round. Not sure if they had permission or not. It certainly appeared that they did not. There was no starter or anyone else to monitor who played or who didn't. As a result, we were late teeing off and the round was painfully slow. While the refreshment cart was out and about, no other staff was ever present on the course to monitor play. Despite the slow play, we somehow finished just before sunset. And, while the course was nice, there are many other courses in the area with similar conditions with prices that are substantially less. The value for the buck and the lack of service from what I thought was a premier facility which offers valet parking was as the title suggests "Surprisingly Disappointing." It should be noted that we would have rather discussed this with Pro-shop staff when we finished, but that area was dark and appeared to be closed.
