Grand Ridge Golf Club
Played On 11/30/2023Fun and Affordable near the Big Easy
Pretty decent track overall. Greens in excellent condition as were most of the tee boxes. Some fairways a little rough around some edges but not much to complain about. As you'd expect, a bit of water comes into play but not a lot of forced carries. As for the 19th hole, I recommend the po boy sandwich; absolutely stuffed with shrimp!
Mystery Valley Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2023Good layout,, waiting on the new greens
Always enjoy playing this course. Good, fun layout with nice variety of holes and modest elevation changes. Not a fan of the temporary greens but expect it to be even better when the new greens open later this summer. Fairways in good shape. A few scruffy tee boxes could be better. I’ll be back later this summer with the new greens on display!
The Creek At Hard Labor State Park
Played On 04/23/2023Good Layout/Fun Course...But
Always enjoy playing the Creek. Interesting layout with a solid variety of holes. Greens were not very good overall, but I understand that work is about to start on redoing all of them. Expect temporary greens to be in play. I will certainly return once the new greens are in.
Ashton Hills Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2021Among the best greens in metro Atlanta public golf
I always enjoy playing Ashton Hills, even when having to dodge pesky showers. The course was very playable and drained well, despite a reported 2.5" of rain the day/night before. Interesting track with a good variety of holes, including moderate elevation changes and a few blind shots. The greens are outstanding, in exceptional condition, smooth, and moderately quick, even given all the rain. My hat is off to the head grounds-keeper and his staff. Some bunkers could use some work, but I attribute that more to intense rainfall washing out sand than questionable maintenance practices.
Collins Hill Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2021Nice staff, but greens need work
I chose to play Collins Hill as it is very convenient. The layout itself is short but fairly interesting, with plenty of elevation changes, sloping fairways, "hidden" creeks, and quasi-blind shots. Local knowledge is vital to score well. Unfortunately most of the greens are not in very good condition. Lots of bumpy patches and bare spots. I really hope they can repair them over the summer. Pace of play was about as expected for a weekend afternoon, about 4.5 hours for a foursome.
Hi, dhoutz880! Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. The Chimneys Golf Course
Played On 09/22/2020Always a great experience at this course.
The Chimneys is one of my favorites in the north GA area. The course is in great shape, with well-maintained tee boxes/fairways, reasonable rough and smooth, fair greens. Also a nice variety of holes/doglegs/elevation changes. Sand traps too were nicely filled with actual sand (not hardpan like many other courses in the area)! The greens were a little on the slow side, but that's a minor quibble compared to the overall experience.
Chicopee Woods Golf Course - Village Nine
Played On 06/09/2020Great conditions-Among the best in the area
Played the Village and Mill Nines, very different but fair tests. Course conditioning was superb with excellent, smooth/moderately fast but not unfair greens. Tee boxes and fairways first rate as well. Good variety of holes/elevation changes and doglegs. Play the correct tees for your skill level and you will have a fun day! Always enjoy this great 27 hole facility!
dhoutz880, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Chicopee Woods Golf Course - School Nine.
Providence Club
Played On 03/20/2020Excellent Greens
Very familiar with this course; I play it often. First off, the greens are in exceptional condition. I remember last year at this time they were not in good condition. Hats off to the staff for how they are today! Otherwise, always a fun track. Was a little disappointed in the number of winter/early spring weeds, but I trust those will be taken care of as the weather warms after an extremely wet winter. Nice variety of holes, including some excellent par 3s.
Thanks so much for reviewing and rating us. We work hard to ensure a quality experience at our course, and we hope to see you back here again soon!
Providence Club
Played On 02/04/2019Always a fun track. Not long, but a fair test.
Greens appear to be improving after great difficulties with weeds last year. I am encouraged. Course overall in good shape after the very wet past 3 months. Nice variety of holes and modest elevation changes. Played as a single in just under 3.5 hours.
Thanks for the 4-stars and great feedback on our course improvements! We're glad you enjoyed your recent round at The Providence Club and we can't wait to welcome you back again soon. #ProvidenceGC
Smoke Rise Country Club
Played On 07/16/2018Outstanding greens, friendly staff
Overall fun to play course with a few blind shots and lots of doglegs. Greens were exceptional; smooth, moderate speed, subtle breaks, with lots of variety. Scenic course with frequent elevation changes, and one where local knowledge is important. I played as a single, and even with GPS on my phone, misjudged some distances and payed the price. Strongly recommend viewing the holes on their website where they are all nicely described. Overall, course in very good shape except for some beat up tee boxes. I was in several sand traps; all in very good shape. For the money on Golfnow, I will definitely go back.
Chicopee Woods Golf Course - Village Nine
Played On 04/29/2018Chicopee Woods never disappoints
Nice scenery, great greens. Challenging for the good player and playable by all if you choose the correct tees. Played the School and Villages 9s. Lots of elevation changes and just a little water here and there add to the challenge. Pace of play was reasonable for a Sunday afternoon. Other than a few tee boxes being a bit rough with plenty of unfilled divots, the courses were in fine shape. Greens were moderately quick and smooth.
Lane Creek Golf Club
Played On 04/10/2018Course in great shape with excellent greens.
Always worth the drive out to Bishop, GA to play Lane Creek. Course was in fine shape and the greens are as good as any in north GA I have played. Rolled smooth with manageable speed. Especially nice collection of par 3s. Good variety of uphill and downhill holes as well as the design and length of the par 4s. Do not miss the green right in the sand traps on the downhill par 4 6th hole. It is an almost certain bogey and likely double or worse.
Monroe Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/18/2018Always enjoy playing Monroe GC
Course in great shape other than a few beat up tee-boxes. Greens were smooth and putted well. This is one of my favorites in metro Atlanta. Well-worth the drive from anywhere on the east side. Nice variety of holes. Some reachable par 5s if you put it in the fairway. Not long overall, but always a good, fair challenge. If you scrounge up a par on the difficult uphill 5th or the 11th holes, you will have earned it!
Mountain Falls Golf Course
Played On 05/31/2017Worth the drive to Pahrump, Nevada
What a somewhat hidden gem; well worth the hour or so drive from the Las Vegas Strip. Overall, the course was in great shape with a nice variety of holes and exceptional greens. Fairly flat overall, but you still need to pay attention to club selection with the subtle elevation changes, especially on windy days. It was especially windy this day, but the course was still very playable. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Played On 10/06/2016Classic desert golf and outstanding conditioning.
Enjoyable round on a windy day. To be honest, I had not really considered playing here prior to our trip because I did not want to pay the normal advertised rates. Fortunately I got a great hot deal on Golfnow.com, which very much made it worth it. The condition of the course, from tee boxes to fairways, bunkers and greens, was outstanding. Several of the holes, especially par 4s, seemed very similar, however, and perhaps even a bit boring. Also, it would have been nice to have another set of tees between 6600 yards plus and less than 6100. I was sort of caught in the middle. Staff was very friendly and the resort property is quite impressive. All in all an enjoyable afternoon.
Reunion Country Club
Played On 08/29/2016Course in decent shape nearing the end of a long, hot summer.
I hadn't played Reunion for a while, but getting a great rate on golfnow made the difference. Course is challenging and hilly with a couple of blind or semi-blind shots. Bunkers and deep surrounding rough can be very penal, so important to keep it in the short grass. Several forced carries, both with drives and approach shots. Good variety of holes/lengths/varied doglegs. Greens somewhat beat up by the summer heat and humidity, but they generally rolled pretty smoothly. Played the tees about 6600 yards which is on the outer fringes of my comfort zone. It would be nice to have tees at 6200-6400 yards, as the next shortest is closer to 6000. Still, an enjoyable day on the course.
Thank you for your tips and feedback dhoutz880. We are glad to hear you came back to give us a try and hope to see you back soon!
Ashton Hills Golf Club
Played On 07/25/2016Nice variety of holes, fun layout.
Had been many years since I played the course, and to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised. Holes were, for the most part, pretty unique, with a good variety of lengths, doglegs, and elevation changes. Playable areas in good shape overall; pretty rugged if you get too far from the fairway, but most holes were open enough to hit driver if you so desired. Greens in fine shape, even though they were recently aerated; generally smooth and only moderately quick. The only negative comment I have is that I played on a hot summer morning and was disappointed to find out the snack bar (where I intended to buy Powerade) did not open until 11AM. Plus they explicitly say NO outside food or drink of any kind, so I did not bring any along. Fortunately, there was cold water available about every 3-4 holes, so I was able to make it to the turn.
dhoutz880 -
Thank you for the review and providing your feedback of the course! We would like to thank you for choosing to play with us! We apologize for the inconvenience of the snack bar schedule but are glad that you took advantage of the free water coolers located throughout the course! We hope that you can come back again soon.
Until then, all the best!
Sincerely,
Ashton Hills GC Mgmt
Sugar Hill Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2016Very hilly, interesting layout...but watch out for the sand traps
Very hilly course (especially the front nine) with an interesting variety of holes. Not overly long but pretty challenging with the elevation changes and several water holes. Several forced carries, particularly off the tee, so be sure you play from the appropriate tees to avoid excessive frustration. Overall, the course in decent condition, except the "sand" traps were mostly awful. Very little sand in most of them; some pretty much unplayable. I had just played after a fairly heavy morning rain (about 1 inch), so that may have contributed to the hard-pack conditions. On the plus side, the course drained quite well and was very playable. I had not played it in several years, and at times was not exactly sure where the next holes' tee boxes began. Local knowledge is very helpful. Otherwise, the staff was friendly and the amenities were reasonable.
Hi Dhoutz880,
Thank you for your review and for playing at Sugar Hill. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the amenities and friendly staff. We hope to see you again soon.
The Oaks Course
Played On 04/26/2016Nice variety of hole designs. Greens average.
Had not visited the Oaks in many years; overall it was worth the trip. Course in decent shape with some spring weeds here and there. Greens okay; still had the "old-style"Bermuda grass sod, so a bit shaggy and on the slow side but pretty smooth. Interesting variety of holes. Routing of holes could be a little more intuitive at times; it helps to have course knowledge. Played by myself in right at 3 hours. Staff very friendly.
The Georgia Club - Chancellors Red/Black Course
Played On 12/01/2015Great 27-hole facility in excellent condition.
I played the "Red" and "Black" nines and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Interesting variety of holes, both in length as well as orientation (doglegs, straight holes, up and down hills). Par 3's lots of fun. Fairways/playable areas fairly wide with not a lot of dense wooded areas to avoid. Greens and sand traps were first rate; about the only slightly less than glowing remark I can make is there were more "un-repaired" ball marks than I would expect to see at such a nice course.
Thank you for playing The Georgia Club! We are glad that you enjoyed the course and conditions. Come back out and see us again soon!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We appreciate your feedback. We are excited to unveil our new greens and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
