Pines at Woodmont Country Club
Played On 10/29/2022OK for $50
Pines is a goat track. But greens ok, slow, some burn spots. No cart service. But for $50 on GN it’s ok.
Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
Played On 03/17/2021Fair considering it’s full peak season rate.
T boxes a bit rough. No bunkers dressed at all. Hardpan and standing water in a few. Greens played well. No food service available after round.
Dobson Ranch Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2021Worth the drive and great price
$70ish for tourists. Better than the $150 for the Scottsdale are courses. T boxes fine nor perfect. Bunkers decent. Fairways good. Greens rolled true. Super friendly staff and bar crew. Great price on golf and cocktails.
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 02/12/2021Great winter golf, but..
Our 4-some was somehow booked onto the different courses. So were rushed out, no time to putt, range, order beverages, get extra waters. We only had one bottle water each in the bags to start,, anticipating some course services. No ice, no water, cart gal service on 5th hole, nothing the remainder of round. Hungry, thirsty, no water....
Talking Stick Golf Club - Piipaash Course
Played On 01/30/2021Peak season pressure on course shows
Driving range every space full, turf virtually gone. Mats would have been better.
T boxes rough, unfilled divots on par 3’s boxes and many wild driver swipes on the others.
Fairways were, well, fair.
Bunkers dressed nicely.
Greens firm and rolled true.
19th hole only a few fried menu items available.
For $150/ round? Other $90 options available nearby and comparable. But hey, it’s sunny and playable. No hard complaints.
Superstition Springs Golf Club
Played On 02/24/2020Thumbs up, but recovering from recent heavy rai
T boxes ok. Greens well maintained. Fairways good shape. Many bunkers filled with rain water, some not dressed, some ok. Course provides fair challenge and test of how you manage each hole. It is not a bombs away and chip in course, unless you can consistently hit your spots. There are no gps screens on carts so you need to buy a course booklet unless you know the course well. Doglegs and different elevations hide details. Know the pin positions. Greens are shaped, small, narrow, protected by sand and water. And pin hunting must be precise because they’ll be tucked in tight spots. Getting close to green leaving nice little chip for up and down is an ok strategy.
Only downside?? Pace was painful. 1:56 t time will leave you driving off in dark. Our first nine was 2hr 40 min... we drove off leaving final 3 holes unplayed. Several golfers with 170 yard carry from t box were not playing forward. Essentially every par 4 turns into a par 5 for them. And trying to reach the par 3 greens from 180 with your drivers??? Come on guys. Par 3’s are a test of your iron game.
Arizona Golf Resort
Played On 02/23/2020Not a goat track but....
For $70/person several other options nearby for much less.
T boxes clean. Greens good condition. But several areas of fairways rough, scarred, exposed dirt throughout. Some bunkers not raked or dressed.
Waialae Country Club
Played On 02/03/2020Disappointed
Had high expectations after watching Sony Open last few years on TV.
$350 with required caddy,
Walked from parking lot with small bag. No access to locker room allowed. No showers available after round. Walked back to car to leave bag and walk back. Hhmm. Interesting start.
Driving range? Mats. Putting green? Small and busy. Like a typical public muni? Sort of.
Caddy good but, had to cover 3 of us. Basically just scoped distances which my watch did equally well. Good guy, just hard to split across 3 guys in different carts.
Divots on fairways not filled. Ball marks on greens. Bunkers played well. Rain of a few weeks ago maybe stressed general condition of grass and grounds?
After the round no access to bar, dining room or any place to sit and add up cards with playing partners. “Sorry” offered from staff. Was encouraged to order a beer at snack shack which had only a few chairs all in bright sun, no umbrellas. Hhhmm. Interesting end.
Long winded conclusion? Visitors from other private clubs welcome? Maybe not. Ko Olina, Ewa, Waikele all better all much much less. In my humble opinion.
I am surprised by this review. Waialae CC does not have caddies.
Waikele Country Club
Played On 01/31/2020All good. Going back again.
All divets were filled. No ball marks on greens. Public course? Cleaner than some private courses.
The Club at Emerald Hills
Played On 04/06/2018Convenient to FLL
Had free time prior to afternoon flight. Greens true, fairways in good shape, a few T boxes being nursed along. Was paired with another snowbird. We were taking a lot of time to play. Still finished sub-4 hour round. Staff great all around.
Coyote Ridge Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2018Wait a few weeks
Course a bit rough. Tough winter. Fairways dry and thin.
Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
Played On 01/16/2018Easy track for quick round
Some reviews show long long times to play. Our 4-some done in 4:15 and I played with 3 high handicappers. You will not be blown away by course and surrounding aesthetics, challenge, etc. But for the price and ease of location to where I was staying it was a very fair price for the round.
Legend Trail Golf Club
Played On 01/12/2018Will play it again...
A decent track for the money on the north side. Fairways good, bunkers fine, greens a bit off from what they've been before but fine. Pace was great, staff always good.
Palms at Palm-Aire Country Club
Played On 10/31/2017Other better alternatives
Greens are in need of repair. A lot of dead spots from ball marks, etc.
Every bunker was not in or near playable condition.
Pace of play was very slow. I was a single, but no room to leap frog. Many 4-somes of primarily seniors/hi handicap players. The groups I followed weren't really bad golfers, they just needed 3 and 4 shots to reach the green, which is slow when each golfer is taking 2-4 rehearsal swings prior to each shot..... as if it mattered ;-)
At the turn I was at 2 hours 35 minutes. On the 10th it was a foursome on the green, another on the fairway, and a foursome on the T-box. I went back to #1 to reload there but similar pressure there. I left as I didn't have time for 5+ hour round.
And finally, no menu service for a hamburger or salad. Only pre-made sandwich/hot dog.
Overall, if you're a local getting the $20 rate including cart, and have time to wait it out, then OK. If like me, here with some obligations and 5 hour limit, it might not be the best choice.
Finally, the staff is nice, friendly tho.
Heron Lakes Golf Club - Greenback Course
Played On 04/21/2017Fair deal
Greens excellent. Fairways very wet in many places. Rough very soggy. Bunkers raked, not dressed, but at least no standing water. Virtually every course I've played from March to current is a soggy mess. So expect mud. But the greens were excellent, tho a bit slow.
The Phoenician Golf Club
Played On 02/26/2017Great course, but short
Played the Desert/Canyon layout. Kind of strange long cart rides twisting between the three 9 hole courses, but not a problem. Course is only 6,000 yards. So your scores will stay low. T-boxes, fairways, bunkers, good but not great. Fairways have very many unfilled divots in the usual landing areas, T- boxes had a lot of divots too. No sand bottles on carts. Greens were in very good condition. Pace was 3:55. Great views. Would repeat at the GN rates.
Marina Vallarta Golf Club
Played On 02/21/2017Worth a round at GN rate
Most bunkers in good shape. Some water hazards. Fairways good. Bring your GPS watch, no cart GPS. Much preferred over current condition of Nicklaus and Weiskopf courses.
Vista Vallarta Golf Club - The Nicklaus Course
Played On 02/20/2017Confirm conditions first
Fairways mostly pretty good, but recent rains washed out virtually all bunkers which where unplayable. And isn't Nicklaus course known for bunker challenge?
Sand washed away and several filled with deep standing water. I lost a ball in one because the water was so spread across and so deep! Ha ha! Shouldn't have tried to clear the bunker in first place. Greens good but furry and slow.
Elk Ridge Golf Course
Played On 09/30/2015A true hidden gem
Sand just laid but otherwise course in fantastic shape. Great prices. Worth the drive.
The Classic Club
Played On 09/17/2015Should be a top choice while in Palm Springs
Excellent course conditions. Wide open play. Wife with 25 handicap had a good time from purple T at 5300 yds. Blue at 6700 fair challenge for me. We both played while virtually wide open in front and behind us. Locker rooms very nice, we showered after the round. Food (salmon sandwich) and beverage service great. Nice staff.
