swamp thing

Course does not drain all that well. Could not believe with all of the rain in the last week or so, they were letting people out. lots of ruts, tire tracks, and spin outs everywhere, especially where scattering of carts at end of paths was found. could not ride the rough that much because that is where most of the standing/casual water was found. Greens were okay, but had a lot of grain and were shaggy and bumpy. Ran into a rude twosome on number one that thought they were on the PGA tour. Lots of weeds and native grasses on tee boxes and in rough. Fairways were not too bad. Course has some teeth on 7,8, and 9, and then again on 16, 17, and 18. Other than that, pretty short, and fairly easy. I probably will not play here again anytime soon.

Short course

If you're looking for a lengthy challenge, go further south to Sarasota national. This course is fun and scorer friendly. Greens had been punched and appeared to be about 75% healed. Were bumpy and very slow. Fairways were nice, as well as tee boxes. Course must drain well, as a lot of rain had been dumped in the last few days. Bunkers were not drug and were hard. After hitting out of one early in round, and it was like hitting off of concrete, the rest of the round, raked whenever in trap to have a conducive lie. Probably will not return, but do think it was a fun course. Hard to beat for 14 dollars on a hot deal...

Great greens

Fairways and tees are in good shape. Crabgrass and some weeds throughout the course. Greens are excellent since the switchover from bent to champions Bermuda. Was 3rd out but as a single, got around the 1st two foursomes, and was able to finish in less than three and a half hours. Ran into maintenance as they were watering greens. Had to wait on sprinklers to quit on two and three. Watch out for a couple of goofy holes with 16 and 17. Other than that, not a bad course.

Nice weather and conditions

Haven't played here in a while due to the distance from home. Conditions were good, with a small amount of some type of "weedy" grass in most fairways, but predominantly, Bermuda was lush. Greens were super soft, but rolled true. Windy conditions made playability tougher. Attendant behind counter at pro shop was not that friendly. Other than that, and the guys in front of us who thought they were pros (playing the tips), and hitting it all over the place, it was an enjoyable day. Kind of what I expected for a Fourth of July round.

Another lemon in Fairburn

I understand the course is under new ownership/management, and I'm not sure what kind of conditions were inherited, so I will give the current ownership a pass this time. HOWEVER, I read an online review that was very misleading, hence the reason I opted to play on 6/29. I had read they were working on the course and improvements were being made. If what I saw were improvements, then I would hate to have seen it before the takeover. There is a bad infestation of crabgrass everywhere including in the fairways and also in the rough. There were also multiple fairways that had large bare spots with no turf to hit from, only red clay. Surprisingly, the tees were very shaggy, necessitating the need for a longer tee to get your ball high enough for a clean strike with a wood. Several of the tees were also uneven with low spots when standing between the tee markers. I had to move around several of the tees to find a flat hitting area, and at times even having to move ahead or way behind the markers to find a flat area. I think they were trying to get the grass on number three green to grow out, because about 75 percent of the green looked like a fringe area and the actual putting surface where the hole was cut was only about 200 square feet or so. To make matters worse, my cart would not come out of idle, so I had to call the pro shop to bring me another one out on number four. After skipping around multiple groups that would not let me play through, I finally found wide open spaces around number 12. Got several bad bounces due to the poor conditions that made me lose interest in a hurry. The greens were aerated, with no sand, but surprisingly rolled pretty good. When you get to within 10 to 15 yards of the green, the conditions improve somewhat with decent fringe areas around them. I may opt to return in a year or two to see how things have improved. Sorry guys, nothing personal. Just calling it like I see it.

It's got potential

Layout was good, and length was challenging. Fair track if you can keep the ball in play. Some long par fours that played into the wind like number one and 18. Good layout, with nice fairways, but the tees and greens are nominal. The greens were shaggy, and had patches of crab grass in them. Rolled okay, but were slow and bumpy. Not as good as misty creek which we played yesterday, the 13th. If they can get rid of the crabgrass and get the greens in good shape, will be a great track. Right now, okay, but not the best. Have played Waterlefe a few times, and it is better than Legacy. Sorry guys, nothing personal....

Great challenge

Weather was fair at best, rain squalling all day, and wind blowing. Only added to the test. Even with the conditions and the length from the tips, probably one of my better rounds in a long time. Fairways are just starting to come of of dormancy, and were a little "skinny". Tees were nice, and greens were okay considering the time of year. Had a hard time holding the greens, even with my high ball flight. Also, had to deal with some seeding and fertilizer spots on the greens, but all in all, not too bad. The bunkers were excellent, as usual. Not too much sand; just right. Got out at 2:20 PM on a hot deal, and was finished and in the parking lot by 5:45. Played through one foursome on # 5, and after that, didn't see anyone else until the back 9. Didn't use the range or get anything from the snack bar. $7 dollars for a bag of balls, and it only holds 40 or so, is a little steep. Give it another month or so, and this course will be " jam up ".

Good deal

Played on a "hot deal" at 9 AM Friday morning, Nov. 29th. Was cold 1st thing and had a 30 minute frost/freeze delay. Was paired with one other single and was the 1st group out. Got around in less than 4 hours, which was nice. Course is in decent shape, considering the time of year. Will return again, if I can get out on a weekday. Long drive down from Newnan makes it hard to justify anything over $30 dollars for a round.

bikini waxed greens

Word to the wise, stay below the hole next time you play Orchard Hills! Their greens have always been some of the most true I have played in Georgia, but yesterday, they had to of been the absolute fastest and truest I have ever played in my visits there. I love this time of year in Georgia. It is when the weekend warriors stay indoors unless it is 60 plus degrees out. If you are lucky enough to secure an early morning round like I did at O.H. I highly recommend it. Was able to get around in less than 3 hours for 18 holes by being one of the 1st groups out for the day. Was treated to the original layout of the Orchard to the Logo, and it didn't disappoint. It truly is a links style in appearance with the mounds, high grass in the distance, and the calf deep rough. Don't worry about trying to find you ball if you hit into the deep stuff, just take a drop, or re-tee if you are a stickler for the rules. Only downside and has been for years are there are a few of the greens that have areas of bare spots. Also there are a few greens where the fringe is bare in spots as well. They are trying to improve that by cutting down some trees to let in more sunlight on the wooded holes. I have heard rumors that the course may be sold down the road for development purposes. I hope this rumor does not hold water, as this is only one of 3 courses in Coweta County that are public, and I really don't care for one of them, which leaves me with only 2.

tough track...but

Where do I begin? The conditions of the course are mediocre at best. The greens are all gone and covered with sand, 90 % of the fairways are cut so short that there are bare spots of red clay dirt showing, and there is hardly any grass to hit off of. The traps have wash spots in them, there is a lot of overgrowth in the lakes/ponds and hazard areas making it difficult to see where to hit at times, and there is a bad infestation of crab grass in the rough. The greens appear to be bent grass. Just wondering why they don't try to transition to the Champion's Bermuda? Given the amount of rain we have had this year, I am highly surprised to see the fairways in the condition they are in. The tees are okay, but slightly shaggy. On the upside, my father and I were one of the few groups on the course. We teed off at 11:30 and were finished by 3:00. This plus the difficulty of the course were the most enjoyable parts of the day. It's a shame to see this course in the shape it is in. This is a very difficult layout with several par 4's pushing 430 yards or longer from the tips. Given better conditions, this would be one of my favorite places to play. Unfortunately, it's hard to digest paying anything less than $20 a round with it in it's current state. Sorry guys, nothing personal, but I can't see investing the time nor money to play here, unless things drastically improve.

Not worth the drive from newnan

Upon arriving, we were told in the pro shop we could go off early. When we got to the starter shack, we had to wait behind a foursome on the tee and another foursome in the fairway. It was slow going all day. Took well over 4 and a half hours for 18 holes. All three tees, back, middle, and senior tees were all grouped together. Course was only playing about 5800 yards long. Decided to play it all the way back at the back of the last tee box to stretch it out. Greens were slow with lots of crab grass growing up in them. There was also a lot of crab grass in the rough. Tees and fairways were not bad, but could have been better. Best part of the course was the consistency with the sand, not too deep and not too shallow. Just right. All in all, probably about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. Starter was not very friendly at all. Had we of gotten around the two foursomes, we could have finished in less than 4 hours. Because of the pace, will not be going back.

This course is very challenging

Dodged the rain to play Coweta Club on Saturday afternoon. Course was in good shape. I was surprised to see a 90 degree cart rule considering all the rain we have had lately. Greens were extremely soft considering. Quite a few unrepaired ball marks on the greens more than likely due to the occasional weekend warrior. Also noticed a few scuff marks here and there where someone had been dragging their feet on the greens as well. No fault of the maintenance staff. Nothing one can do when there are people playing that have no idea as to the etiquette nor respect for the golf course. Course is very challenging and ball placement is a must. Avoid the rough at all costs. Hit into it and expect to be playing for par, at best.

Best course in coweta county

Considering all the rain, summer grove is in superb shape. From tee to green, the grass is lush. The greens are in great shape, with very few ball marks. Could be a touch quicker, but not complaining. The only real issue was the silt in the fairway on number nine, but that's to be expected as this hole is prone to flooding, especially considering the rain we have had. Have played here many times in the past and I welcome the new challenge by narrowing the fairways and letting the rough grow out. It definitely gives the vibe of a tour caliber course. Played the tips for an added element of difficulty. By far the best course in coweta county, and only second to callaway gardens for courses south of the airport. Definitely will be back!
