Silo Run Golf Course
Played On 06/15/2018GREAT GREENS!
Played on a hot Friday afternoon and the course had very few players. WHY? The conditions were very good to excellent on the front 9. The back nine had issues on 11 + 13 but the staff is working diligently to improve those spots. BUT the greens were SUPERB! The greens were smooth and fast with almost no dead spots. Great job guys! If the rain doesn't wash away all the hard work they are doing on their "watch areas" this place will be perfect in about 2-3 weeks. The only disappointment was the condition of the bunkers but that is totally understandable. If we don't play they don't have funds to put into the course. Do yourself a favor and try out this course. You can spend much more and get less at several other courses in the area.
Silo Run Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2015The greens are good BUT... read on.
I have played this course since it opened and this is absolutely the worst the fairways have ever looked. I know that several courses had some trouble with Winter kill but I did not see any work being done to get the fairways back up to decent conditions. the tee box on #9 was the only one with decent grass coverage as well. As I said though, the greens are in very good to excellent shape. The carts are dilapidated, the men's restroom is in disrepair and there was a dog laying on the floor at the only inside table where one could sit and have lunch. It is sad to see the overall conditions compared to where this course was just a couple of years ago. It does not make me happy to write this negative review but I would not be honest if I said anything else.
Cedarbrook Country Club
Played On 05/08/2015GIVE YOURSELF A TREAT. PLAY THIS ONE!!
Cedarbrook knows how to do golf right! From the moment you pull onto the property until you drop the last putt on 18 this is a top notch experience! Zim, his son Taylor and ALL of the staff are always a pleasure to deal with and will make you feel welcome. The course is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and I hope to be able to make the trip again soon. Thanks to all for keeping first things first.
Yadkin Country Club
Played On 05/02/2015Needs some time and work
There is a lot of improvement work being done but the previous owners let this track run way down before the new folks got hold of it. Maybe 6 fairways with any decent grass to play from, even rolling the ball presented a challenge to find grass. I really like this layout and hope they can stick out the spring and get some grass growing this summer.
Pudding Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2015Always a pleasure to play here.
The fairways were in average early Spring conditions but the greens were true and on the quick side. The staff is what makes the drive worth the time. Dan and his crew are always friendly and willing to help folks that show themselves willing to be helped. I have never had a bad experience here and hope to be able to go back soon. Don't let the front nine lull you into too much confidence because the back nine will definitely chew you up if you get complacent.
Pudding Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/13/2014Same great experience as usual!
Played with 3 gentlemen from church and had a wonderful day. The fairways were well kept, the first cut of rough was playable and the greens rolled true.We all enjoyed the grill and appreciate the friendliness and courtesy of the course staff. This course is @ 45 minutes away from us but we will definitely be back!
Diamondback Golf Course
Played On 05/20/2014Worth the trip!
This course is well outside of Myrtle Beach but is easy to find and well worth the trip for the value. It plays tight but fair. The conditions were as good as many other courses in the $50. range. The greens were true and the speed of play was average when you get this kind of deal.
Tanglewood Golf Club - Championship Course
Played On 04/14/2014Future gem but not now.
Wait about a month until they have reworked the bunkers and the fairways have grown in a little more. This is a TOUGH track to begin with and playing it in these conditions will frustrate the experience even more. Be patient and i believe this will be one of the jewels of the area again.
Sevierville Golf Club - Highlands Course
Played On 11/5/2013Tough course!
Fastest greens I have played in 15 years! Tough par 3 holes and some real rough make this a great test. Be sure to follow the RED cart directions on the paths or you can lose your way. Super facilities and staff.
Maple Chase Golf & Country Club
Played On 7/19/2013A challenge
Better bring your best for the back side especially. Longer than most in the area.
Maple Chase Golf & Country Club
Played On 7/19/2013As good and tough as they come.
Played in the 100 degree heat index Friday afternoon and had a great time. No one holding us up and no one pushing us. No one had a great scoring round but we played a beautiful course that has been hit hard by some of the rough storms we have had this year. Kudos to the mainteance staff for having the course in top notch condition in these challenging conditions.
You better bring your "A" game if you want to score well here. The front 9 is fairly open and the back 9 tightens up and adds a lot more elevation changes. Play here if you are in the area.
Island Pointe Golf Club
Played On 5/21/2013A true test for all skill levels
River Islands is, in my opinion, one of the finest tests of golf I have ever played. Thanks to the Zoysia grass fairways, if you put the ball in the fairway, you are rewarded with a super lie. No need for Winter rules here. But if you stray from the fairway get ready to pay a price. Some of the rough is PGA depth and quality and this place makes you think your way around. Elevation changes and green undulation make knowing your distances a must to score well. On top of all that the scenery is great. The only drawbak is the pace of play is almost always @ 4.5-5 hours every time I play. Take time to play this gem in the middle of nowhere. BTW please note that this course does not paly back to the clubhouse at the 9th hole so check to see if the halfway house is open before you start the round. Enjoy!
River Oaks Golf Club
Played On 3/14/2013This is a good course for the money.
The course had not been over-seeded so the conditions were average dormant Bermuda with almost no grass to hit from. However the greens were true and fast and made the round enjoyable. We played the Bear and the Otter and found the Bear to be the more enjoyable of the 2. The staff was courteous and helpful. This may not be one of the premier courses but it is worth the Golf Now fees and the trip out to the area. I know this course will be well played by folks that enjoy golf without breaking the bank.
Long Creek Club
Played On 1/24/2013Poor conditions!
75 % of the greens had an abundace of dead spots and/or sprigs of crabgrass growing on them. #5 green is still terrible. This course looks like there is no greens keeper. A couple of the fairways are just 1" high grass and the rough needs attention as well.
I really like this layout but will not be back until they get it back to at least "decent" conditions.
We played for $16 each but this course was still no bargain.
Silo Run Golf Course
Played On 9/7/2012A course for every ability and age!
Silo Run has long been one of my favorites because of the
setup and layout. The setup allows every level of golfer to choose a set of tees to match his/her abilities and the layout is mostly right in front of you. The few blind shots are easy to plan out and the par 5 11th is one of the easiest par 5s for any level of golfer to reach in 2 shots. The staff is a great bunch of good ol' country folk and there is no being looked down upon no matter how folks you bring or how you are dressed. This truly is the "everyone's course" in the greater Winston-Salem area.
Long Creek Club
Played On 4/11/2012On the brink of being really good.
This course has seen many changes, i.e. landscaping, facilities and management. The new management is a welcome change and I know they will be the main reason for folks coming back. The course is just starting to turn green and the fairways and greens were in fair shape for this time of year. I believe that some warmer weather will quickly turn this course into a must play in the area and I look forward to coming back in a few weeks. The extensive work on a couple of green complexes, especially # 5, will be a big help. I know I will be able to give a better review after the grounds crew and the warmer weather have done their jobs on this course.
