The course was in great shape especially considering how dry it's been. The greens were perfect.

Eagle Creek is an excellent and challenging course. It was in great shape. The fairways were well groomed.

Since Decatur closed one of its popular courses, they are down to only two public courses for the entire city. It shows. I was by myself and it took over four and a half hours to complete 18. In a cart. It's not the course's fault. The course was in great shape. If you want to take all day for a round of golf, Decatur is the place for you.

Since Decatur shut down one of its popular golf courses, that leaves only two public courses for the whole city. It shows. Pace of play was horrible. It took 2.5 hours to finish the front 9. Overall it too 4.5 hours for 18. And it was only the two of us. The course, however, was in great shape.

Piper Glen is a good looking course, but its fairways are thin and the greens are extremely tough. They were especially today, as they were fast to the point of not being fun. I had 3 or 4 run off the green and I consider myself a decent putter. One green was putt putt style with a rise of a 3-4 feet. That with the thin fairways make it too challenging for a hacker like me.

I had played Lake of the Woods previously and it was in great shape. Today the greens were horrible. Someone told me they had an algae problem, but the greens were horrid. Almost all had bare spots galore. A couple of the greens were not cut and was like putting on the fairway. One had a sprinkler problem and had a literal stream running through the middle of the green. Otherwise the fairways and sides were cut and in good shape. Nice course if the greens are repaired.

The Decatur Park District wants to close this golf course down at the end of this year. Please write the Board Members of the Decatur Park District to not shut down this course! Closing this course would leave only 2 in Decatur and that's not enough for a town that's trying to rebuild itself.

This was my first time playing the course. It is a nice looking course and the scenery is beautiful but I didn't like the course layout. Most of the holes have dogleg and I hate using a club other than my driver to tee off on 4/5 par holes. If you're a really powerful golfer you can cut the dogleg and shoot over the trees, but I am not. I'd say I used my driver only a couple of times; most of the time I had to club down or I'd overshoot the fairway. And I'm not a long hitter.

My major complaint though was the inflexibility of the course for GolfNow. My tee time was something like 10:30 am and I got there at 10 am. It was raining and no one was teeing off. I asked if I could go ahead and start and they said no, pointing to a sign that said GolfNow players must tee off at exactly their tee time, no exceptions. So I got grouped with 3 other golfers and my course time was over 5 1/2 hours! (No fault of the golfers I was with or the weather...just slow pace.) I won't be returning.
