Greens

Not sure how they charge full price with greens as bad as this. I don’t care if the greens are slow, I just want grass on the greens instead of mud, sand and fungus. This really is a disgrace compared to what they used to be.

I would suggest a new superintendent if this problem lingers.

The good, the bad and the ugly

The good - always a friendly staff. The course layout is my favorite on 210.

The bad: pace of play is slow. For a late Sunday afternoon it’s way to slow. And at that time, why is there no starter or ranger? If you’re allowing the course to be open (and take money) then the course should be functioning as a golf course. Staff should be working. What they are telling you is you’re important enough to them to take your money, just not important enough to make sure you tee off and finish on time. Then my favorite was on the 16, 17 & 18 holes they were running the sprinkles. So you literally had to drive through the reclaimed water. Added bonus! Bush league municipal course right there.

The ugly: greens and tee boxes. WAY too many bare spots on each. They are not known for quality greens and I guess that is what you can expect here, but you’d think if that is the biggest complaint about this course, they’d make some kind of effort to rectify it. Guess not.

Wow, not in a good way

I stopped playing S Hampton in February due to the conditions of the greens. I thought I’d give them a month to get it right. It did not help. The greens are atrocious. Disgraceful compared to what they used to be. They spent all that money on the practice area. It should have been spent on maintenance of the course. Even the new practice greens are terrible.
Do not play this course. Until they can figure out that greens should be greens and have grass, it’s a complete waste. Very disappointed a local course has gone down this quickly and this badly.

Never again

I did a review yesterday being very honest about the poor conditions of this course. Oddly, the negative review is removed.

I’ll make the review very simple: the conditions on this course are worse than any $25 muni I have ever played. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Unbelievably disappointing

First, the good. The person in the pro shop was great. Very friendly and welcoming. The bag attendant, Steve, was awesome. Very personable and helpful.

For the rest of the course, it was a disgrace. The conditions are a $25 muni at best. To think it’s anything else is laughable. I expected, green, lush conditions. Instead, all they have on the tee boxes and “fairways” (and I use those terms loosely) were bare spots and mud. No grass. The course was completely soaked and there has not been rain for days. And the best part, they were watering even more.

I literally cannot think of one thing that would bring me back. Not one memorable hole. Terrible conditions. Everything about this course felt old. From the tiny greens, to the mud filled “fairways” to the cracked and trees rooted cart paths. I thought the reason the Ocean Course was closed was to put money into this one. If this is the result of money going in, they need a refund.

Know what you are getting

This is not a private course or even a muni. Don’t think that it is. But it is a great place to take your kids to introduce them to the game. 4 holes. Conditions are rough. But for spending time with your kids and spending maybe $13 a round, it’s perfect. Don’t go there being pretentious thinking it’s something it’s not.

What happened??

What happened to the greens? I play this course quite often. I noticed last week and even more so yesterday they are clearly having issues with the greens.

Not sure if it is some kind of fungus but there are numerous patches of just mud and sand, and PAINFULLY slow. The ball bounces, it doesn’t even roll. If I wanted greens in this condition I’d just go across the street to Cimarrone (it’s cheaper and the design is better).

Not sure if this issue is being addressed but if not, you’ll be losing a lot of business. I’ll wait a month and come back one more time to see if fixed. If it’s not, I’ll just go to St John’s, WGV or drive to Eagle Landing. Too many courses in a short distance to play on greens in this bad of condition. Want to support my local course, but not if they don’t maintain to an acceptable standard.
