Lydd Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2022Summer in March!
Beautiful conditions for a round of golf, and as usual Lydd lived up to it's reputation - tough and not an easy hole on the course. The environment can be stunning, and given the weather today, it was just that.

Always enjoy playing Lydd! Great course layout, always challenging conditions, and what an environment!.....but in the last few years, the greens have deteriorated - now, few, if any, provide a smooth putting surface. On several occasions, our fourball produced putts that actually bounced off the ground having been struck! I would always come back for the reasons given above - but not so frequently, when there are other (pay and play) courses in the area that look after their greens to a better standard.

Played On 03/29/2021Quirky layout!
Quirky layout, where you need to be aware of other golfers playing, around you. Never been on such an open course where it has been so difficult to locate one's ball after a shot. Card map of the course didn't exactly match the info/pin placement, on each hole, and signage as to where to go could have been better on one or two holes.
General condition was good, if grass, a little on the long side, everywhere.

As the title suggests! For longer handicappers, as the 3 of us were, this is an enjoyable, but very tough challenge. Amongst the toughest of the pay and play courses down in this corner of s-e England.
The peninsula on which the course sits is reputed to have it's own wind factors, which other courses, locally, don't necessarily experience - that does seem to be the case!
In what was a strong-ish breeze, holes 12 through 15 were quite brutal and and there were some scores almost into double figures!
Water features large, on all but 4(?) of the holes, and the course designers like their little 'necks' of land which you have to negotiate on approaches to the greens.
Greens were of a mixed nature but generally good and quite quick.
Overall, a very enjoyable round in stunning surroundings.

Played On 10/17/2017Outstanding!
Terrific course, well laid out, with features to catch the eye on every hole. 9 and 18 are real feature holes - but you could make a case for other holes! A tough set of par 3's. Not the longest course, but if you aren't in control of the ball, then you will shoot a high score. Hitting the fairways is a must. Pin positions on the day were demanding, but the greens were fair. Definitely a course to go back to!
