Battleground at Deer Park, The
Played On 04/24/2016All good except.......
The GREENS!!!! I've played this course maybe 5 times over the last 3 years. Always a good challenge but their greens apparently have been attacked by a fungus. A minimum of 75% of every green on average is nothing but rolled sand. Unfortunately this course will have this condition at least until late summer or fall. I understand they have sought the help of Texas A&M agronomists for help. But I won't be back for a minimum of one year and then I will thoroughly check greens condition!
Four Mile Ranch Golf Club
Played On 10/08/2014Most fun I've had on a course in a while!
Course was in great shape! But be prepared for a) target golf to specific landing zones and b) blind approaches. I was blessed with 3 locals that knew the course well. Without them I would have been lost but with them-Tremendous! The course is a bit eclectic with lots of hard doglegs and REALLY undulating greens. The pro wasn't kidding when he said, "WE have a lot of dead elephants buried out here." There are some 4-foot humps in some of the greens! But the greens were receptive and FAST! I can't wait to come back! (Yes, the pro shop is tiny but who cares? They make up for it on the course!)
Aspen Golf Course
Played On 10/06/2014Fun but quirky!
The course was in great shape! Relatively short but fun. Its defense is its landing areas. Most landing areas were very narrow. Some holes have HARD dog legs that you need to have very specific yardages to be successful. Engage a local to play with! What you see off the tee is not necessarily what you get. Greens were in very good shape and fast. Lots of undulations, too. Pro shop small but adequate. Staff very friendly. I would definitely play it again. (Hellacious Views!!!)
