New Layout at the Groves

Course conditions were really great. This is the first time I've played since the new Groves layout.
They eliminated the ONLY par 5 hole (#9) and replaced it with a par 3 in order to make room for a driving range by utilizing the old #9 fairway. Then they renumbered the rest of the holes such that you finish on the old #17.
In my view they ruined a "one-of-a-kind" short course that had a good mix of par 3, par 4 AND a par 5 hole.

New Management

I could tell by the activity of workmen at the site that management was spending money on the course and driving range. I met Scott, one of the new owners, and he confirmed my observations. The new owners are spending money on both the driving range and the course.
The course is made up of nine par 3's. The holes range in length from about 63 yards to 150 yards. Oddly enough, the 63 yard #6 gave me the most trouble.
All in all, I really enjoyed the two "laps" I made around the 9 hole track. The course is lighted and looks like it would make a fun evening activity. Walking the course does not present a problem as long as you have a carry bag, or pull-cart.

Good Shape

The course was is generally good shape. I will note that the greens were rather slow, though I made 4 birdies from outside 6 feet ! I played as a single, but paired up with 3 compatible golfers and had a very enjoyable round.

Not too difficult, but requires accuracy to stay out of trouble.

Nice layout in reasonably good condition. There are a couple of interesting dog-leg holes that require a precision layup shot in order to even see the green. This course challenges me to put the ball where I'm aiming in order to come away with a good score. Not a course for a "bomber" who likes to bomb it, find it, and hit it again.
