Great Southern Charm & Hospitality

The staff was wonderful--helpful and attentive. The course is well-groomed and has some interesting holes, though not the most challenging I've played. That's nice for a Saturday round with a buddy to help lower the handicap a bit! Nicely landscaped with a "country club" feel, but not the country club price. I'll definitely play here again when I'm in the area.

Challenging Course, Nice Setting in the Pine Forest

My boyfriend & I played this course on a 96 degree, humid weekend day, and the shade from the pines were a pleasant relief from the sunny fairways. He's an 18 handicap & I'm a 36, so he plays from the blue tees and I play from the red to even out our drives. It's a very challenging course with typical Carolina hills and blind valleys/corners, and lots of marshy or water obstacles to hit over, since they cross the fairways on several holes. Probably not recommended for beginners because you need to be able to hit a reliably lofted shot at least 85-100 yards from a good layup position. Great course for intermediate to advanced players. Deep green side bunkers, so accuracy on the approach is rewarded. Pace of play was good--we played fast as a twosome (20 min. ahead of rate of play) and other players were very polite about letting us play through. We were only backed up a little for the last 3-4 holes. Course was in nice shape from tees to greens, but players could be a lot better about repairing their divots & ball marks--course obviously gets a lot of play. I have only one suggestion to management to improve the experience: PLEASE put out water jugs on killer hot days! There were only 2 restrooms along the course where you could get a drink of water. Otherwise, we enjoyed a great afternoon of golf at a reasonable price ($45 each with cart).

Nice Course with a Country Club Feel

I've played here twice now, and both times had a very enjoyable weekend round. The pace of play was so great the first time in June that we felt as if we had the course to ourselves. My boyfriend is an 18 handicap and I'm a 36, but the blue & red tees are set so that our drives are nicely equalized. There are some very challenging holes on this course, which keeps it interesting for even an advanced golfer--lots of rolling hills, valleys to hit over, and the course is nicely landscaped. It was getting a little dried out when we played at the end of July, but still well maintained overall--I didn't give 5 stars only because of some patchy areas on the greens & the cart paths are VERY rough on some holes, but the fairways are still quite plush. The staff was WONDERFUL--exceptionally helpful & friendly. I lost a custom club head cover, and they had it the next morning, and held it for me for almost a month. I forgot my putter, and they loaned me one from the rental set free of charge. The little bar/restaurant had a much wider & better selection of beer than most courses I've played, and they maintained water stations along the course at regular intervals on the 96-degree day we played. I live on a private golf course in Florida, and this was as close as I've found to a country club experience at a public course. I'll be back!

Nice intermediate course

The course at The Plantation Inn was good for a fun afternoon of golf. Good value at $25 pp with cart. The setting is "old South" with lots of trees, interesting wildlife, and a few tricky water hazards. I'm a 36 handicap, my boyfriend is an 18, and we both found the course challenging enough for a relaxed round of match play. Fairways are plush & in great shape, but the greens could use work--some burnouts, ant hills, and a bit scruffy--could be mowed a little tighter for better consistency. Awesome friendly staff. Would play this course again.

Unique and challenging course

The Old Course is one of the few "stand alone" golf courses in this area, meaning that it does not wind through housing areas, although it is a hidden gem surrounded by a business park. Host to the Allianz Tournament (Champions Tour), the course has many challenging holes, tricky fast greens, and lots of water to contend with--one of the most challenging courses I've played in South FL. Beautifully landscaped with abundant wildlife (including at least one large alligator), a friendly and attentive staff, upscale dining room, and nice locker room facilities, it is a "must play" in Boca Raton. It's a private course, but definitely worth playing as a guest given the opportunity. The course is currently closed for re-grassing, but should reopen in the fall, better than ever.
