Nice course in great condition

The course was still in great condition for early September despite a dry summer and some difficult conditions to manage, kudos to the greens staff.. Although the course was really busy the pace of play was great, facilitated by excellent etiquette from two 4-ball groups ahead of me who both invited me (playing as a single player) to play through, keeping things moving.

Clubhouse staff were helpful and courteous . All in all a really good test of links golf on a windy day and a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

Nice course in good condition

Seahorses is always good test of golf, particularly when it’s windy. The greens were in excellent condition and the course was presented nicely. Pace of play was slow due to poor playing etiquette from two 4-ball groups backing up the play by not invitingly groups who had caught them up to ‘play through’. Otherwise a great golfing experience,

Great course and hospitality

Second year in a row playing Heacham Manor while holidaying in North Norfolk and it didn’t disappoint. The course was in good condition. and I played it on a very warm and windy day so it is always a good test with the amount of water features on the course. The fairways are generous but there was plenty of growth in the first and second cuts if you miss.

The post round food and drink was excellent and service was first class. Highly recommended.

Awesome course in Amazing condition particularly for late October

Me and my 13-year old son played Cardrona for the first time in late October after heavy rain in the region had resulted in much standing and casual water on surrounding courses. We were amazed that despite the course lying in the river basin that makes up part of the beautiful Tweed valley, the course was in amazing condition. There was some casual water in isolated places on the fairways and one bunker that I noticed but otherwise the course played as though it was mid-summer. The greens had been hollow tined, which is to be expected on UK courses at this time of year, however I was amazed at how 'true' a line putts kept on all greens. I have never putted on hollow tined greens that were this good. Bunkers were very well maintained and evenly filled with good quality sand and the course condition was a credit to the greens staff. We both thought that Cardrona has lots of character and every single hole was interesting. Fairways are wide and generous and the second cut of rough is deservedly punishing. Many well thought out bunker placements capture erroneous shots and reward good course management. Although the course is long measuring in excess of 7000 yards, it is not just for the 'bombers' as long hitters are punished for poor shots by the clever course design and layout, which reminds me a lot of the Centenary course at Gleneagles - high praise but well deserved. Some golfers might not enjoy the long walk between some greens to the next tee but it is not something that bothered us at all, particularly when you are walking through such beautiful scenery.

I was mindful after reading other reviews before playing of some comments made by others regarding "unfriendly course staff". This was not our experience at all, the pro was welcoming and helpful on arrival and the greens staff were pleasant and courteous around the course, as were the hotel staff in the bar etc. We both loved the experience and would play Cardrona again, anytime without hesitation. My son has played golf on lots of golf courses around the UK and Europe ever since he was 5-years old and he told me after our round that he thought Cardrona was the best course he has ever played. I've got to say that I concur as I certainly haven't played on many that are better!

Okay

I played Peebles with my 13-year old son shortly after heavy rain had fallen in the area, so understandably the course was very wet and muddy. Peebles is a pleasant parkland course laid out on the beautiful hills above Peebles town. For us the course does not have many memorable holes but does provide a fair test of golf. I would suggest it's a course that would become more enjoyable after you've played it a few times and memorised the layout. As the pro told us before teeing off "don't go left", that's good advice. The greens were hollow tined so understandably not great to putt on and the greens staff were carrying out a scarifying type process on some fairways. In all Peebles, was okay, it would be interesting to play it 'in season' to see how it plays.

Not as advertised

Beware if looking to book to play here, this IS NOT Bridlington 18-hole course as it appears on the website. This is essentially a 9-hole par three 'practice area' adjacent to the driving range at Bridlington Links golf club. It is adjacent to the main 18-hole course and part of an overall leisure complex including holiday lodges on one side and the main course, clubhouse and Pro shop on the other.

I believed from the information on the teeofftimes website that I had booked for me and my 13-year old son to play the main 18-hole links course. On arrival we learned from the pro that the booking was actually not for the main 18-hole course but was for an adjacent par 3 course. The Pro also explained that we were one of a number of parties who had done this and that he had pointed this out to have this rectified so other golfers would not book thinking they were playing the main 18-hole course. I would like to say that the Pro was very apologetic and helpful. Offering to defer our payment against a future booking for the main course, which at the time was fully booked so we were unable to play. The Pro suggested that we might like to try the par 3 course anyway because it was a good test for your short game. We decided to give it a try as we were on holiday in the area and had travelled 40 minutes to get there.
In all this par 3 course turned out to be what could only be described as a rough and ready extended practice area. There were no hole numbers or tee directions, hence users were moving randomly around the area disrupting the progress of others (probably not their fault). The greens were awful some with rabbit scrapings and there were no designated tee boxes or markers on some holes.
In all I would suggest avoiding this 9-hole par 3 practice area unless you want to do some very basic short game practice. The greens will do nothing for your putting. The club would do well to remove this course from there teeofftimes listings so that future golfers don't book in error in the way that both me and apparently others have done.
