Cheval Golf and Athletic Club
Played On 07/09/2020If you can't afford TPC, do not succomb to here
This course really irks me as the houses themsleves are pretty as well as the scenery but that's all the course has going for it.
The course is about 60% doglegs and requires shots with perfect accuracy and distance which requires perfect play unlike it's relative TPC. The conditions are quite poor for the price as the greens were unpredictable and extremely slow even though there wasn't rain for a week. Also the fairways were quite spotty and the lies which should have been favorable were not.
This course has no concept of either a "fun" hole or signature hole and is just terribly designed.
Also their carts utilize cart control in the most grotesque manner as if you're within 150 yrds of the green, it'll force you to move backwards at 1 MPH on top of the most obnoxious pop-ops on the GPS screen. It was so infurating I genuinely wanted to drive to cart on the greens out of fustration of the poor implmeneted cart limitions (don't worry I did not).
Overall if you cannot afford TPC, do not play here and choose anywhere else to have a remotely enjoyable experience.
Westchase Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2020Great for the location and price
As someone who lives here but generall plays other courses, I thought I'd give it a try for the first time in years.
The course conditions are solid although the greens could be slightly better as well as the fairways.
The course layout is a bit tight and not my favorite in terms of hole variety, although it's solid considering it's a residential course.
My main issue is that their mid-day prices are way too high for the summer and defintiely not worth over $40 which they continue to charge. If given a change the price, I would change it to 5-stars as I'd rather spend a tad more to play at TPC Tampa.
Also would add that the staff is quite friendly.
TPC Tampa Bay
Played On 07/07/2020Very well kept, fun design
After playing many courses in the Greater Tampa area, TPC Tampa has definitely stood out as my favorite and most enjoyable course. The design of the holes always feels fair and it's definitely a peaceful atmosphere.
The only issue is that the price is definitely something that is not easily affordable however if you want to play at a great course, I'd highly recommend it as other courses in the area will still charge around $35-40 and be way less enjoyable. Of course there are some great cheap executive courses too, but this course definitely delivered.
Also the water coolers placed at most holes seemed sanitary and had a good temperature, was definitely pleased with it.
Northdale Golf Club
Played On 03/19/2020Extremely long and flat holes, Decent Economy Course at best
This course is definitely a bargain course that strives in it's price point but there are some better economical alternatives in the area. The design is incredibly flat and straight forward and the holes are fairly monotomous that go for pure distance. No other course in the Tampa area has given me the feel of a slog of each hole. It's hard to complain too much about given the price but the design really rubbed me the wrong way.
Some may like the distance and openeness, it is down to preference I suppose.
