For a weekend warrior, this course is exceptional. Challenging hole layouts, water hazards, protected greens. I did use up a good chunk of GolfNow Rewards for my friends and I, but the value would still have been great with the HotDeal price of $62.

Early rainstorms took their toll on the fairways, but the club seemed to be doing all they could to repair the damage, and they really didn't hinder play or muddy up the ball too much. Great course layout, longer than most public courses. Will definitely play again.

This course was excellent, if you forget about the patch work on the 2nd and 3rd greens. I can't remember which green it was, but one on the back 9 was covered in leaves. Literally had to clear a path for a putt. Outside of those issues, it was great. Strategic layout, friendly staff, above average pace of play. 3 hour and 45 min. round.

The good: The course has potential to be an outstanding round, but normal conditions for San Diego are keeping it from reaching that potential. The course had every challenge you can expect, except for water. One hole requires you to carry water, but that's it. Fairways are 30 degrees to the left and right, and about a 6% downhill and uphill depending on the hole, which is great. Bunkers were just hard dirt, which was to be expected based on reviews. So I was happy with the course itself and staff.

The bad: we didn't have any cart service. I didn't even see a service cart, until I returned mine at the end of the round. Luckily, it was overcast and not too physically demanding. I.e. didn't need a lot of water. Had it been a normal SD weekend, I would have been extremely upset, and sweaty.

Overall, it was fun and I'd definitely play again.

Loved the course, staff was great. Greens were in great shape. My only concern was the lack of full driving range and cart staff on the course. I had just received some graphite irons opposed to my older steel set, and I was hoping to get a feel for my distance at the range before hitting the course. Wasn't able to, but the course was nice enough to make up for that. Only had the cart girl drive by once (on the 9th). Normally I expect to see them twice. Maybe my expectation is unrealistic.

The course was great, especially for a dry and hot southern California day. My only complaint is that the cart service only came by once, on the 4th or 5th hole. I was a single, playing with a husband and wife twosome. They didn't want to stop at the turn, so we didn't. I didn't have a problem, because I figured we'd get cart service one more time. By the end of the round, I was exhausted and dehydrated. It seemed as though the tournament being played on the Pine Glen course took priority over the paying customers at the Oak Glen course.

Again, the course was great to play, and the staff was very friendly....when they were around.

The staff was friendly, but even with the Hot Deal price on GolfNow, I didn't feel it was worth it. Southern California is currently in a drought, but other clubs have been able to maintain their courses, and Cottonwood apparently can not. It may be funding, lack of membership, I'm not sure, but the course wasn't very good. It had potential to be beautiful, but currently it isn't, and that is unfortunate.
