North at Admiral Baker Golf Course
Played On 05/12/2021Disappointed
Normally a great course to play, but slow play & sanded greens (which we were not informed of when making tee time) made for a not so good day. It was evident all day where the hold up was (2 groups in front of outs), but no marshal around to say anything to.
Boulder Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2018Unique layout
We have played this course 3 or 4 times in the past year. Unique layout, with four par 3's on front nine (32) and four par 5's on back nine (38). Despite its short length, we still find it challenging at times.
Greens are in good shape, but a little slow. The variations in slope on the greens makes up the difference, with some difficult pin positions. Fairways are spotty in places, but good. Biggest complaints I have are the tee boxes (in need of mowing as they are almost as bad as the rough). Also, if you get off the fairways, there many instances where you are hitting off of hardpan, with lots of crevices.

Getting worse every time I play here. First of all, I understand that it was a holiday. Having said that, teeing off at 10:00 am and not finishing until after 3:00 pm is ridiculous.
I was especially frustrated when we saw 5-somes on the course AND a 6-some behind us. UNBELIEVABLE!!
Course is in OK shape, but not worth the $40, especially with the slow play (and not just this round) recently.
Won't be back for quite a while.
North at Admiral Baker Golf Course
Played On 12/21/2017Always a treat
Been a while since I played the North course, but still my favorite of the two courses. Course in good condition, greens a little fast.
Only down side was pace of play. We (3-some) were following a twosome all morning that couldn't keep up with a foursome in front of them. No marshals to be seen. Always a shame when a logjam is unnecessarily created by discourteous fellow golfers.

Played On 12/07/2017Not for the faint of heart
Santa Ana gusts up to 40 mph made this one of the most difficult golf days I've ever experienced. Add on the fact that the greens were ridiculously fast and it was a recipe for a very difficult day.
Between tumbleweeds, closely mowed fairways and extremely fast greens made it nearly impossible to keep the balls straight and on target. I would suggest the greenskeeper let the greens grow out to slow the putting and have a heart with the pin positions.
Brutal conditions!!

Played On 12/01/2017Slow play day
Need to do something about slow play. Called pro shop on phone after 9 holes (2 1/2 hours) to marshall the course. They sent a kid out with a golf cart. When he came to check on us, I asked what was going on. Said it was "just busy". I asked, "then why is there a 2-hole gap a few holes ahead". Pretty much ignored my comment and did nothing about it. There seems to be a misnomer out at courses like this that nothing can be done. How about owning it and advising your customers that a certain pace of play is expected? You can be nice about it and get the point across. To have to endure an almost 5 hour round of golf is not what I paid for. Pace of play is invaluable for a fun day.

Played On 11/14/2017Fun course, fun round
Have played here several times over the past few years. A nice layout, like the elevation changes throughout the course. Course is in good shape, although the rough is mostly dirt. Greens are in great shape and fast. Careful on approach shots not to get on the short side, as getting close to the pin can be difficult with the speed of the greens.
Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 11/08/2017Still work to do
Took Eagle Crest up on their $20 play-all-day offer. Speed of play was good. As a single, I passed about 6 groups in the first round, only a few in the second round. Management appears to be working on course (blue and white tee boxes were closed for the most part), so had to tee off from temporary tees. Fairways are still spotty, but greens are in fantastic shape.
Lots of maintenance work going on, so hoping for overall course improvement in the coming months.

What a great find! This course has exceptional imagination, not for the weak of heart. Not real long, but the layout carves up and down through the community. I've played quite a few courses in the area, but I'd rank this up at the top.
One caution, stay out of the rough. It is exceptionally deep (might do well to trim it down a little) as I lost 2 balls that must have sunk so deep me and my partner could not find.

Played On 10/30/2017Great course management course
Love this 9, which is different than Black or Orange. Some very strategic holes.

Played On 10/22/2017Improved Conditions
Played here in August after they reseeded the greens and was disappointed with the conditions. This trip, the greens were perfect. Best part of the course.

Played On 10/21/2017Slow day
Course was packed. Waited on every hole on front nine. No marshall, even though the group two groups ahead of us were 2 full holes behind the whole round. Also had a group jump in front of us on our 10th hole. No one there to tell us why?Started on time (2:00) and played 17 and 18 in near dark (6:45 finish). That was with a few groups dropping out due to dark and playing the last 4 holes in 30 minutes.
Course is in fair shape, but some holes were muddy and some greens had damage. A few holes were memorable, but not enough for our group to return in our future Myrtle Beach trips.
Diamondback Golf Course
Played On 10/19/2017Off the beaten path, but worth it
Great experience. We were a little concerned when we pulled into the parking lot as a large crowd were waiting to start. We checked in (friendly staff) and were sent out using starts on both nines. We were pleasantly surprised with the pace of play, rarely waited for the group in front of us.
The course was in good condition. The layout was challenging at times, but manageable. Just beware of #10, with a narrow chute to drive through off the tee and a large tree on the right. A little unfair position of the tree when you hit the middle of the fairway.
A very enjoyable round and a high recommendation from our group.
The Wizard Golf Course
Played On 10/18/2017Unique course - Awesome golf day
My brother and I played this course in August and decided it was worth a replay. In both instances, we were not disappointed. Great greeting by the starter, very friendly and got the day off to a good start. We played the entire round without waiting. Course was a little wet, but was in great condition.
This is a unique course that mimics Scottish golf courses. I like that most of the holes are relatively easy to moderate in regards to distance and difficulty. We were a group of ages 59 - 62 and found the white tees to be manageable. We definitely have this course, as well as Man O War on our list to play when we visit Myrtle Beach.
The only down side is the lunch that is included in the price of the round. Having to pay $4 more to get a hamburger vs. two hot dogs or a cold pre-made deli sandwich seems petty.
Man O' War Golf Course
Played On 10/16/2017Must play for Myrtle Beach
We did some online research and from the looks of the layout, we were expecting to be overwhelmed by the water hazards throughout the course. We were pleasantly suprised that was not the case, although water did come into play on various holes.
The course is great and fair. All of my group were ages 59 - 62, so we played the senior tees. We found the distances and degree of difficulty to be just right. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in great shape. Love this course! The only drawback is the lunch offerings that came with the package we purchased. A small deli sandwich or two hot dogs were part of the package, but to upgrade to a hamburger or bbq sandwich were an additional $4. Not the best deal for a lunch included in the price. Otherwise, staff was very friendly (especially the starter) and the course is a must for Myrtle Beach travelers.
Carolina National Golf Club - Egret Nine
Played On 10/15/2017Course not for the weak at heart
First of all, this was the second nine we played following the Egret nine. This course is very challenging. Our group (aged 59-61) played the senior tees. The problem was, the senior tees seemed to be more difficult than the blue tees in regards to tee off positions. We definitely would have been better off with the blue tees. The greens were very, very fast and did not hold approach shots. Made for a difficult time with many of the pin positions.
We really enjoyed the layout and it was a great 'back woods' feel. Would recommend this course, but be prepared for a stiff challenge.
Also, the scorecard gives no hole information and there are no plaques at tee boxes to give you any idea what lies ahead. Definitely a drawback!
Tecolote Canyon Golf Course
Played On 09/19/2017Work on your short game
Had not played at Tecolote Canyon for about 20 years. Brought back memories. Greens are in good shape, but some of the fairways, rough and tee boxes were just OK. This course is a good test for mid-iron and short iron play. Greens were very receptive, but also had a good speed for putting.
Speed of play could have been better, but this is the type of course where there is quite a mixture of foursomes, threesomes, pairs and singles. Caused quite a bit of a back up as a twosome and the groups in front of us did not recognize until the middle of the back nine.
Having said that, an enjoyable round and good practice.
Such a waste
We've been wanting to try Brick Landing for some years, as we come down to the Myrtle Beach area once or twice a year. The check-in guy was friendly and we got out right away, before our scheduled tee time. We were intrigued by the first hole, made somewhat difficult by the narrow fairway and with the wind blowing around 20 mph. After two holes, we were beginning to feel like this would be a special course. Boy, were we wrong!! I've been playing golf for almost 50 years and I have never seen greens in such bad condition. On almost every green there were bare dirt patches. It was beyond playability. The worst part, the course layout was very unique and challenging. Really a shot maker type course with many decisions on the best way to play each hole. I would never recommend this course to anyone, short of maintenance change or complete replacement of the greens.
The Valley at Eastport Golf Club
Played On 08/26/2017Average course, average price
Staff friendly, allowed us as a twosome to start on back nine to avoid backup on 1st tee. Played back nine in just under 2 hours. Ran into a little backup on front nine, but still finished in 4:20. Greens were just OK, fairways were slightly better. Cart paths are in serious need of repair. Course is equal parts of challenging and middle of the road.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 08/16/2017Challenging course
Play here at least once a week, but normally when "hot deal" is available or twilight. Bit pricey for normal rates. Difficult course that tests drives off tee and quite a few long irons. Greens are in pretty good shape.
Hi, Statmaster. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting North at Admiral Baker Golf Course. We hope you'll give us another try in the future.
