Great Course

Played for the first time on a very windy day. The front nine is links style making the windy conditions a challenge. The back nine is more of a parkland style with trees lining narrow fairways. The two different styles made playing fun and exciting. The greens were fast and in great shape. The fairways were good and the bermuda grass rough made some approach shots a challenge. There are some holes with water but not many. The range is large and the practice green was true to the greens on the course. Staff are friendly and the clubouse is down to earth, not swanky. Valley Landing is a hidden gem.

Nice Course

Fox Run is a very friendly, easy to access course. The layout is mostly flat but challenging, especially if there is wind. The greens are good and fairways are generally well kept. The layout does require some thinking on a few holes, where placing the ball in the correct place makes your approach shots easier. The staff is great, the club house down to earth, not upscale or swanky.

Excellent and fun course

Continuing my review. I accidentally hit the enter button. The clubhouse is modern, clean, spacious and the bathrooms the kind you will in a Hyatt Hotel, not some concrete bunker referred to by a previous reviewer. True there is no kitchen for made to order food but there are sandwiches, drinks, and snacks.

Now to the staff and course: The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Despite the summer heat (daily 95 deg plus) with little or no rain, the course is not burned out like so many here are. The fairways are generous, firm but soft, green not brown. The greens are good and recently aerated, running about average speed. The range is big, the carts are good.

The views on the course are very nice. There are a few water features and gentle elevation changes. Tee box graphics and yardages are nice. Water is available every 3rd hole.

In summary, I am very happy I visited and look forward to taking our association there for our outing in August.

Nice but quirky and slow play

I and 3 friends drove an hour based on previous reviews. Temp was high 90s. Staff was excellent, course was in good shape despite high temp.

Now the bad news. We teed off early but were behind a few groups of locals who obviously were playing some kind of game as a group. The group right in front of us fell 2 holes behind quickly, sped up for 2 holes then hit the brakes again.

To make matters worse: After hitting their second shot on a Par 4 on the back nine, this group decided to walk to the next tee box (a Par 3) to watch their buddies tee off instead of driving to the their green, all while we stood on the tee box waiting to play. No apology and no marshal around all day to herd the cats!

On a Saturday morning when the parking lot was half full, it took 5 hrs to play. We waited excessively on 16 of the 18 holes despite the fact that my group included a stroke victim with a 23 hdcp, a beginner who carries a 54 hdcp and his wife who shoots in the low 100s. We could have easily finished 30-45 mins earlier, proving you do not have to be good to play fast. The course needs an active marshal program.

As for the quirkiness of the course: Three holes have large trees in the middle of the fairway, I did not understand that. Approaches to two holes are virtually blocked by more trees 50 yards in front of the green, I did not understand that.

I am saddened by our experience because I was actually scouting the course as a possible venue for the Golf Association I am the Chair of.
