Long - even from the gold tees

I had always heard good things about Shaftesbury Glen, and now after playing it, will confirm what I heard from other golfers: it is worth the effort to get there. SG is a little off the beaten path on 905 so if you're heading down SC Hwy 9S, it's a great stop on your way down or if you're heading home from Myrtle Beach. You can also get to SG from 501N travelling through Conway, so it's easily accessible.

Daniel helped us in the Pro Shop - very personable young fellow. Mark was our cart guy/starter. Mark sent us to No. 1 tee. The 4 guys on the tee were waiting for the group in the fairway to hit and when those gentleman started for the green, the group on the tee hit - at least 2 of them did. The other 2 guys took 1 and 2 mulligans respectively. Even one of their playing partners looked back to us as if to say, "Guys, it is what it is." (in a humorous fashion) As an aside, one of the guys hit 2 tee balls down on the ground that rolled 10 feet to the left the exact same way - better than a trick shot artist. Anyway, one of the boys in our group went back to Mark and asked if we could go to 10 tee; he obliged. This made the start of the round more enjoyable - we appreciated his help. ALL the greens at SG are elevated so if that is not your thing, just be aware of it. It proved to be no more of a challenge than if they were not. The course was in fantastic shape - a lot of variety and not too penal due to most of the fairways having some width. BUT if you stray into the woods, there is little chance of you finding your ball and if you see it, there are thorns. Interestingly enough, a five-some appeared behind us after we had played 2 holes. They seemed to be at a track meet time trial. We never help them up (we turned in 1'45") but we felt somewhat rushed - it was weird.
Be aware that the course appears to play longer than what you will see on the scorecard from each set of tees. We played from the gold and it was more than enough length.
If you've given thought to playing SG, go for it.

Finally played Wild Wing

After travelling to Myrtle Beach and playing golf there for 25+ years, I finally made it to Wild Wing - no disappointment here. Rick Schultz, PGA Head Pro, helped me make a tee time prior to my trip. Rick was communicative about the course and his assistance set the tone for the round. Matt greeted us in the Pro Shop - welcomed our group and was very friendly and happy for us to play. Jeff was our cart guy - super nice. Howard was the designated starter and gave us a preview of what to expect.
Avocet at WW is a challenging but fair layout. There are four Par 4s with better than average length from the white tees. Lots of variety on each hole, bunkers in great shape as well as the greens.

Don't wait or hesitate to play WW!

First time played - will return

International GC was the first course for our annual golfing group trip. Let's just say this course is a gem. Well maintained, fun, variety, greens were rolling excellently. Doug Donner is the Head Pro - nice guy.
If you're going to Myrtle Beach for golf, try IGC. It's not too far down 17 Bypass south of town and an excellent track.

Great course, interesting employees

First off, Jay Smith, the Head Pro, is a super nice guy. I'll get to the other folks shortly.

If you want a very challenging course with nice but wide enough fairways, incredible bunkering and faster than usual Myrtle Beach greens, I recommend PCC.

As we approached the bag drop, there were 2 gentleman, Dick and Shelton. Shelton was an interesting cat. We were behind on our tee time from playing a morning round; I called the pro shop 20" before we were scheduled to tee off to let them know we were trying to get to PCC rapidly - the guy who answered was not friendly. He seemed to be inconvenienced by taking my green and cart fees - that's why staff gets a poor rating here. Shelton at the bag drop on the other hand informed us the golf carts would shut off at 7pm - whether he was trying to be funny or not, golf and courses in general ain't getting the play like the salad days 12-20 years ago. His tone was not welcomed at this point but then he seemed to soften as he described the course. He really softened when our group made the turn in 1'50". "Oh, you'll be done by 7:30" he said with a smile. So, maybe he's a guy with dry wit. Enough of that - on to describing the course.

Course - tee boxes, fairways, rough, bunkers and greens - were all in great shape. Lots of variety at PCC. Holes 16-18 will give you all the challenge one needs. Hole 1 was quirky - even if you hit a drive right down the middle, you contend with a large hardwood on your left that guards the green from 50 yards out - have a draw if you're a righty.

In summary, play Prestwick.

If you're travelling, get off I-95 and play Gates Four

I set a up a tee time with Scooter Buhrman, PGA Head Pro at Gates Four, prior to a golf trip. He's super personable and wanted to make sure our group was satisfied. He mentioned at the outset that the greens had suffered mightily from the July heat - he was absolutely correct; they were under serious duress but recovering - otherwise, this course would have received a 5. Plenty of variety on this course, sand in bunkers easy to play, lots of character. I believe it may be hole #12, a par 4, where there is a small pond with a creek running from it. I don't recall any signage on the hole at the tee but driver here is not an option if I recall the hole number correctly.

If you plan to play in August, early September, ask the pro shop staff if the greens are better - you'll enjoy GF.

Good to be back

A couple of years since I last played. Ron helped us get our bags on the cart; extremely helpful guy. Greens were very recently aerified but rolled okay. Tee boxes and fairways perfect as were the bunkers. Course very clean - no trash - plenty of water in coolers.

Everyone from the inside staff, starter and ranger were very courteous

Course was in very good shape for this time of year, greens rolled very well, excellent practice putting green, aerification had yet to occur, tee boxes could have been a bit better regarding lack of grass, have played here several times but this was my first visit in 3-4 years, GolfNow coupon was utilized - excellent deal on a Friday - slider not working properly: played in 4 1/4 hours - excellent pace: was not held up or rushed, course in better than average condition
