Off the beaten path

This course likely is a local course, and a bit out of the way. The conditions are, well... not good. However, this is a good course to learn the game or have a non stress round.

If you look pass the overgrown weeds and bare/bumpy greens, you will see a layout and 9 hole routing that is really great.

Here is hoping this course makes a come back! Very friendly staff that appreciates your busy.

Unique good course!

Great change from typical courses. Staff is so friendly and happy to have you! Crowned greens give your putting all you can handle, hardly a flat put all day.

First hole is a par 3, which sets the tone for a quirky day. Once you get to the 4th hole you realize this course is very different. You have huge clumps of massive trees in fairway, tight chutes w/ narrow straight shots only, and the 18th has trees blocking your dogleg and route to the fairway/green.

All and all, supper fun and different. Great place!

Sand Greens, they are real!

This is a golf experience that is worth trying. First off, you have to tip you hat to all the people who work on keeping this 9 hole course in playable condition!

You put your cash greens fee in the box and off you go. No amenities, no tee times, no fancy pro shop, no stress. The course is mostly grass mowed at the same length. It is not overally long, but trees outline most holes.

The sand greens... well, you need to work on your distance from however far out you are so it bounces a couple times before the green. Any shot hitting the 'sand green' on the fly will hit like concrete and go over.

Again, super fun experience if you go in with an open mind. Not many sand greens left in the country.

Great place

This is a well put together facility w/ very friendly staff. The greens were in great shape and fast. All 3 of the nine hole courses and challenging but easy to get around in decent time.

If you like long par 3s after long par 3s, then this is the course for you...yikes.

Nice course!

SJ muni in great shape coming out of winter. Green/lush fairways and tee boxes good. You can tell they work hard on keeping the course in good shape. Greens are good, but so many player ball marks that don't get fixed.

Easy to walk with nice layout. Really is a good value for the quality of course.

Great links course

Lots of recent rain, no problem... excellent drainage. It is fun to have a links course and be able to play the ball on the ground. Great variety style of course to everything else around.

Putter a better option than wedge around the green with tight firm grass. Wind was really up the day I played, like playing in Scotland.

Solid course!

Middlefield is certainly an above average executive course. The greens are good and roll true. The yardage is short on most of the par 4s, but big trees and narrow fairways require quality shots.

With I-5 down the middle, you have to cross (under) back and forth 4 times. Down side, too many beginers who don't understand etiquette and use the tee boxes for batting practice...painfully slow pace of play.

Could be better

Several years since playing here. The greens were not the great condition they had been in years past. 2 temporary greens, and the others were satisfactory. They did knock the greens fee down due to the conditions, which was the right thing to do.

Hard layout from tips, extremely tight and need to work the ball all directions. Friendly staff and good overall.

Rough conditions, but still fun!

First time at Oak Knoll. I guess I did not do my homework, after check in i saw they got rid of 9 holes (2 years ago). The nice staff gave me some info, but I had to read between the lines...they probably don't get enough play to need 18. Also, they don't seem highly invested in maintaining the 9 holes they do have.

With all that said, it was a fun experience. Mostly just watering tee boxes and greens, otherwise brown firm dry grass (lots of roll out!). The 8inch cups they said are to give us a chance at making them since so bumpy. The layout is good, with enough to keep you intersted. At nearly 100 years old, this course is seriously tree lined w/ BIG trees.

Unclear what the future hold for Oak Knoll, TBD.

Very nice place!

The course is in fantastic shape, and the greens are perfect! This is a particularly interesting layout, as there are 6 par 3s, 6 par 4s, and 6 par 5s. Not a lot of courses have this, and certainly a nice change from the norm.

There is an overall more serious vibe at this course. The place runs on time, other golfers are courteous, and if you value your time this place has the best pace of play i have seen in a long time. Spring Hill is worth the price!

Unique

Lets get the bad out of the way: Course conditions, lets go with not good. Also, if you are looking for the staff to say hello or welcome you...don't hold your breath.

The good: If you go in with an open mind, this course will be a fun experience! At nearly 100 years old, the trees are so tall and mature you will need work the ball every direction.

Fun and quirky...get this. They actually have a small sand bunker in the middle of the 5th hole (Riviera established in 1926, so not sure who came first?).

One of the par 3's on back 9 is SO out of place. You hit a 130 yrd shot over a waste area to the green...then after you finish, you walk back exactly where you started and tee off the other way to the next hole.

Wonderful

Troon taking over last year has been the best thing that has happened to Eagle Crest. The Challenge Course is an outstanding shape, best i have ever seen it.

The greens are running FAST! Smooth/fast greens with some fun/challenging pin placements make this course an awesome round.

Great staff and location!

Fun par 3

This 9 hole par 3 is not just a pitch and putt. Plenty of variety in length of holes. Amazing greens! It reminded me of the Preserve at Bandon Dunes. So many humps/bumps and creativity needed to get the ball close to hole, lots of fun!

This course is very much a grow the game type of course w/ beginers, it will be slow unless you go early. Great staff!

Great course!

Lots of mixed reviews, but the course IS in good shape!! It plays MUCH better than it looks. The greens are fantastic and rolling fast and true (love it!). Kudos to the staff!

Overall a good layout with tons of bunkers (especially on front 9). This course is an excellent value.

Still shocking how slow pace of play is, and how the people new to the game have nearly no etique or understanding of the basics. No knock on the course.

Cool place

Interesting/cool experience to play on a Military base w/ helicopters above and airplanes on the tarmack. The course is well layed out with lots of interesting holes.

This is a fun course to play, staff very friendly. Sadly, pace of play is no longer a valued component to our great game. Even w/ tee time 10 min apart, there is just SO much slow play...5 hr 35 min round (painful).

Fantastic!

What a great facility! Course in great shape even w/ all the recent rain. Lush green grass in the setting of the foothills w/ no houses or roads in view. Front 9 mostly flat, back 9 hilly and a bit more interesting.

Staff was excellent and you can't beat the price for something of this quality. Also played the 9 hole par 3 course. Not just a pitch and putt course. It has elevation changes and well placed water hazards. Driving range also, they have it all.

Fantastic!

Played the West 20 when it was the orignal course of only 18 holes, 25 years ago,

Fun to come back and play, just is good as i remembered it. For the short distance on paper, this course has some teeth. Some greens are on side of hill w/ little room to miss, and the speed of the greens is fast! I got a very windy day, and so hard to keep ball on the dance floor.

Such a fun place, great views all over!

Just Fun!

Love the idea of the (very) short pitch and putt. They keep the greens running smooth and fast. There is pleanty of elevation so getting your distance correct is the key. Supper fun course, much easier than the West 20.

Straight as an arrow

Gresham GC is about is straight-forward as it gets. Old school style course, tree lines and nearly every hole is straight.

Easily walkable w/ short distances between holes. 1 goes out, 9 back to clubhouse. 10 goes out, 18 back to clubhouse.

Friendly people and great price! Greens are smooth and fast.

Mix bag

The good: Greens are rolling SO true, fast, and smooth! Some of the best greens for public courses in central OR right now. Kudos to the maintaince crew!

The not so good: I don't want to pick on the old ladies for slow play, but that is exactly what lead to over a 3 hr 30 min round. 3 old ladies w/ carts, yikes. It was like rush hour in Los Angeles, not going anywhere.
