Excellent C on a Cold Autumn Day

This course is increasingly more difficult when the wind is a factor. No matter the time of year, the wind protects the course from low scores. Alot of in your face and crosswinds.

Today, we were very surprised how fast the greens were. There is already alot of undulating greens so, wimd and cold didn't help. Challenging and fun.

Welcoming staff, too. Each tee fee gives you a small bucket of practice balls for the driving range. Alot of opportunity to practice bunker and wedge shots, too.

Great Shape for Early Autumn

The course was in excellent shape today. Lots of morning dew on the greens that slowed the speed of them but as the game progressed the greens picked up speed. Bunkers are in very good shape. Very good quality sand.

Old-style treed fairways. Very picturesque.

Had a toasted western sandwich after the game. Very tasty.

Incredible Experience

The course can be viewed from the top of the clubhouse that sits on top of a hill. The tenth tee plays from the top with a spectacular view of the fairway in the valley. The staff were very welcoming at the pro shop as well as the excellent food waiting at lunch in the main restaurant. Rental of clubs range from $30 - $50 (CAD) depending on the quality of manufacturer. There is a small practice area near the first tee for chipping and putting. There isn't a driving range or set of driving cages to take full swings. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. The bunkers need tending and grooming. Not sure if there was overnight rain or sprinklers were pointed in the wrong direction but, there was pooling (and very wet sand) in a few of the bunkers.
The price-point for this course in comparison to many top-of-the-line courses is incredible. This is a gated-community which sits adjacent to the Humber River where people fly-fish in the early morning and evenings. The staff are low key at the Resort and very welcoming. This is definitely a STAY AND PLAY resort as the fees for rentals at detached homes and townhouses are very reasonable. Golf is open between mid-May to mid-October. Enjoy!!!!

Early Spring Golf on Valley

Nice to get out for the first time this season after a freezing rain and ice storm the previous week.

Due to conditions, no power carts. The Valley course has at least 5 significant elevation changes as you move in and out of the valley. Conditions on the golf were very good given the time of year. Fairways were relatively dry with a few spongy wet spots. Greens were slow but in good condition. The 17th Par-3 was a very good test for us. The green is in excellent condition.

The 18th Par-5 is a challenging uphill walk. Take a deep breath before taking your second blind shot towards the green.

The clubhouse has a relatively new set of washrooms and locker room. Showers are available. Very clean.

The restaurant has a very comfortable feeling. Good food and service. The Pro Shop was very welcoming.

Signature Hole Ruined

Regrettably, Kaneff has decided to mess with its "signature hole". First, it wisely "flipped" the front-nine to the back-nine and vice-versa. That made sense as the former #1, significantly slowed golfers off the first tee as it was an elevated tee with water/marsh hazard on the valley landing area.It was a good business decision. However, when they removed all of the tee-boxes except for the "Pro/Champion", and moved the remaining tees to the valley, it made this hole unworthy of a signature branding. It's a short layup to the edge of the Credit River and and medium length drive to the green. Stupid.

Thanks for the feedback. We switched the 9"s to speed up pace of play. In regards to our signature all tees except the Red's are below. Sometimes whites will go down below also. Maybe this was one of those days.

Wet, Wet, and Wet

Thank goodness for GolfNow. We were 15 minutes before arriving at the course and we got a phone call from the course that due to heavy rainfall in the area during the previous day, carts would not be available for use. No problem. We had prepaid with cart and requested a discount for the game. Sorry, can't do that. Has to be done by GolfNow. We called GolfNow and they initially tried to find a course in the area at the same price that included a cart. We told them that would be impossible given the heavy rain issue. I asked them to call Hidden Lake to cancel the original booking and redo the booking without a cart. GolfNow called and "magically" got our original time with a reduced rate and an additional discount courtesy of GolfNow. Perfect. BTW, only a handful of golfers on course during the 4 hours played.

The weather forecast was NO RAIN but it rained during our game. Also, alot of wind. Holes #2 and 18 were soaked. 18 had a creek running through it where there was no creek before. Drainage was not great. Greens were in very good shape given that most are elevated.

There is a snack bar (and restroom facilities) at the turn to the back-nine. We felt sorry for the person as there weren't any golfers on the course to generate any revenue for her.

This is a very nice course that has a range and practice area around the two 18s (Old and New). I prefer the New.

It's worth an hours-drive to play here.

Late Fall Golf

Richmond Hill is one of the few remaining courses open in the Greater Toronto Area. There were about 10 cars in the lot. A few hardened golfers in the proshop waiting to pay for their tee-time. No starter, no marshalls...just golf. Perfect. Walking rates only. The course is not long but the last hole is a steady climb all the way out of the valley. Good walk NOT SPOILED.

There are number of tree-lined holes and water hazards that come into play. Some very tricky and narrow landing spots off the tee and second shots.

I'm aware that it's late in the season and the bunkers are in questionable condition but no on-course washroom facilities was a challenge. Otherwise, the fairways and greens were in very good condition.

The weather was perfect...sun, no wind, mild...incredible. Great day.

Member's Guest

As a first-time player at this private course, I was looking forward to playing at an above-average course with a driving range and adjoining putting green.

First, the pro shop staff were welcoming and the men's locker was clean. While they provide some toiletries for shaving, there was a single and used disposable blade for golfers to use...I think.

When we arrived at the bag drop, no staff (at 9:30 am) were there. However, a door bell and sign stating we should ring it to get someone to take our bag from the bag drop was visible. It worked but unusual client service.

There was/were on-course beverage cart(s) service. Also, a halfway food hut is located off the 9th green.

In general, the golf course is in average condition. Many of the greens look like there was minimal grass care with clover hiding in the greens. No idea when the greens were cut. There are a number of bunkers being reframed and rebuilt. Fairways need to be watered more frequently. A sure indication how good a restaurant is, is by viewing the washroom and its maintenance. The same could be said of golf courses and their driving range. The grass was at best, greenish-brown.

The course has some challenging holes with water hazards and native-grass areas. Also, the course is designed to minimize travelling time between holes.

Not sure what benefits there are for the members but as a guest, I would play many of the above-average GolfNow courses before playing at Sleepy Hollow.

Nice Course-Excellent Hot Deal

RedCrest is about a 40 minute drive from midtown Toronto. Driving directions (and address) to the course refers to the original Cardinal courses (2740 Davis Dr) and NOT off the Keele St entrance. I told the Pro Shop that their website needs to be adjusted. As of today, not done.

Also, the RedCrest course is normally rated at $80+ (taxes and fees incl.) per game unless, you can get the HotDeal I received for $50. Golf courses at this rate should have a driving range available to their guests. There is only a single (unkempt) driving cage near the club house. The other Cardinal (East and West) courses have a very nice driving range on site. RedCrest management should have a shuttle between the new RedCrest and the driving range.

The ProShop and restaurant is below-average. The ProShop at the East/West courses is significantly larger than RedCrest. The restaurant/19-Hole amenities are below what I expected. BTW, there was no on-course services provided. Not sure why.

The course, however was very enjoyable. We started on the back-9. As this was mid-May and the weather in the area has been colder/cooler than usual, a lot of the early Spring flowers and tree growth were slow to emerge. Wind plays a factor on this course as much of the course is vulnerable to wind.

Golf carts are equipped with advanced GPS direction and enhanced video display. The cart paths meander to marsh land and offer golfers some beautiful sites. I look forward to playing here in mid-Summer to experience the full benefits of the view.

South-Wind Blowing

GolfNow Spring-pricing made this golf game very enjoyable. It's a 45-minute drive from midtown Toronto (usual mid-morning traffic#. The course now has all-you-use driving range fee #$9# before your round. The starters #Ian, etc.# were very nice and welcoming.

The weather was sunny but equally chilly once the wind picked up. I felt sorry for the cart-girl who was motoring around in her open cart trying to generate some revenue/sales. Not many golfers on the South course, so Ian started me on the back-9. All by lonesome. Love it. I was done in 1.25 hours. The front-nine took longer as I was behind a threesome that took 2 hours. No problem. Although coming off the 7th Hole, I took an extra few minutes trying to find the T-Box for the 8th Hole. No signage to redirect you off the 7th green. I went right, then reversed to the former green. Then went straight...wrong. I made a U-turn and then went left. Found it.

Greens are in good shape and understandably slow at this time of year. Fairways are in very good shape and respective drainage #due to April showers and coolish weather# made fairways very playable. Bunkers are not prepped or groomed, yet.

The course has a lot of wind impacting a golfer's game. A number of the holes are into the wind which required an increase of using one-to-two additional clubs. The cold didn't help but it was fun, nonetheless.

The GPS device in the cart is a nice addition. I brought my own and found the course's device confirming the results I found on mine #GolfNow App).

Hot and Humid Golf

We came to the course for a good deal on a well-maintained and fun golf course. Got it at Maples of Ballantrae.

Pro Shop was very quiet with only one staff person at the desk however he got us processed quickly. There were a number of foursomes ahead of us although we came as a 3-some and near to our T-time. No problem, the starter was very courteous and we got started close to our scheduled T-time.

The practice area is very close to the first Tee with no chipping permitted. They used to have a driving cage near the clubhouse but the only thing that remaims is the asphalt platform. As there is no driving range I would recommend a new set of cages for the guests. It's all about service!

The golf course is in very good shape. Weather and rain have been ideal. We played from the blue tees and that gives you some challenging shots from narrow tree areas. Bring bug spray. The Par 3s are a challenge. Many forced carries over water or ravine area or narrow tree-lined shots. Only "easy" Par 3 was #14 however 201 from the blues.

The greens were very consistent and the putting line taken were very true to the eye.

I think the course could improve in sending out the beverage cart ealier especially on a day when it read high 80s. No water containers on the course and washrooms are not the most accessible. Also, the carts were very wet and needed to be towelled down before we started.Thankfully, the starter Ron had a spare towel. Someone forgot to wake up early enough to get to the course and do their job.

Great Deal-Last Minute Golfer Website

I've played at Mill Run and always enjoyed my experiences at the course. I came as a single player for an early morning start. Unfortunately, my t-time was bumped later as the group I was originally set to play with, decided to bring an additional player. The starter apologized for the inconvenience to waiting for an additional 30 minutes but provided me with no compensation. No free range balls, food discount...nothing.

I played the Grist and Wheel courses. The Wheel is a challenge as there are alot of elevated greens, doglegs and creeks. Pretty course.

The greens and fairways are in good condition. I just wish that golfers fix their pitch marks. The two players I played with never repaired their marks. They didn't take the hint when I repaired mine.

After the game, I went into the clubhouse to get something to eat. I decided to have a tuna sandwich and ate it outside. The sandwich was so dry and flavorless, I couldn't believe that any golf restaurant could make this kind of mistake. I was hungry so I ate it with lots of water. The "halfway" restaurant was closed when we completed our first-nine. We didn't see a beverage cart until we were on our final two holes. I understand that alcohol can't be served until 11 am but what about everything else?

The Lastminutegolfer website had a great deal($30) for golf and cart. Thank you.

Breathe of Fresh Air

This was our first time at the course and our first impressions of the course were equal to ours once we completed our game. Nice facilities with welcoming staff with some challenging holes. Fairways and greens were in very good shape and the greens had some speed and movement. I wish golfers took better care of their pitch marks on the geeens as there were too many unrepaired dead spots that deterred from the course's greens overall conditions. Fairaways are well marked and bunkers are challenging. However, the bunkers are not consistent. There are alot of very thin spots in greenside bunkers as the depth and consistency varied between very fluffy to hardpan. It would benefit from some maintenance to give golfers something more predictable.

While we didn't have time to practice on the driving range, it looks like a very good place to practice. Putting green near the first tee is very good.

The Par 3s are challenging...water, undulating greens etc. Good test. There at least two T-shots that "blind". Pick a spot and go. We had a GPS device so it helped with this type of blind shot.

Very enjoyable day.

Return to Royal Woodbine

Arrived early at the golf course at 7:20 AM and dropped off bags at Drop Off. We went into the Pro Shop and confirmed our reservation (including cart). Very good price. No staff to place golf bags on our prepaid cart. Small courtesy not provided. Same issue when carts are not permitted in parking lot to return bags to car.

The course was in very good shape. This is a tight course with forced carries on Par 3s and creeks coming into play on a number of holes. The course meanders in-between low industrial buildings and residential properties. A GPS device or APP is recommended.

As we played into the mid-morning, the flights from planes departing/arriving at Pearson Airport diminished in number however, it was loud for the first 90 minutes and frequent flyovers.

Unfortunately, we played too early to get any refreshments from a beverage cart. They didn't arrive until after 11 AM. Too late for us. There are no water containers anywhere on the course.

There was very little traffic on the course so that was great. No concern for undue pressure by backed-up T-boxes. There were more players on the course as we exited the course but it was quiet.

Due to the limited space on the course, there is no practice chipping green or driving range. A driving net would be a compromise.

Cold May Golf Day

The day was forecasted to be in the mid to late 60s but a cold front made it feel like the mid-50s. Cold on the hands for the front 9. Good thing we planned to walk as it kept us warm.

When we arrived at the course we had no idea where to drop our bags off as there are no visible signs where the bag drop is or how to enter the pro shop. We were told by a curmudgeon-like golf marshall that we couldn't enter through a visible entrance to the main building off the parking lot as we would be bringing in our bags with us. Since it was so cold we didn't want to create any issues before we got the chance to play. Not the best way to start.
We practiced on the chipping and putting greens. There is a bunker to practice. We didn't take advantage of the driving range.
In general, the course was in good condition. The cold winter had a noticeable effect on the greens. The greens were difficult to play as their was alot of winter burn. A friend had told us about the greens issue two weeks prior but we hoped that the conditions would have improved. We'll return later in the summer to see how the course plays with better conditions.
There are elevation changes that make it an enjoyable challenge. There are tree-lined fairways that help define ypur drives.
Exiting the greens on each hole give you a clear sense of the next hole. Unfortunately, the 18th green leaves you without a clue where to go. If we had a golf cart, I'm not sure if we would have been better off.
The small restaurant was nice but the only hot meal available was a hot dog. We were the only 3 golfers in the restaurant.

As it was colder than expected, there were very few golfers on the course...maybe 20.

We would return but improvements to a golfer's first impressions and their greens experience are necessary to improve their ratings.

A Return Visit to Parkview Valley

This was our first golf game of 2015 and we picked the perfect day in mid-April. I'm equally glad that (Remington) Parkview is now part of the GolfNow family of courses. Parkview (Upper and Valley) has had a long history of with GTA golfers wishing to play golf at a reasonable price. It's relatively close to downtown Toronto and its northern border.
In my mind the Valley course is the more scenic and interesting of the two courses.
The greens were in very good condition although extremely slow. Fairways were in decent shape, too. There appears that maintenance of the course for example the Par 5 #2 was on-going. Trees were cut on this hole as well other fairways. Not sure if it was due to the very cold winter or to course-needed changes. On #2, the addition of the pond feature adds to the challenge of teeing off into the valley. Nice touch! I would add a large fountain to make it a more attractive view. I would also remove the dilapidated shack on the left-side of the fairway. It's an eye-sore. The Par 3 #17 has a tarp in front of the green. It appears that they are trying to reshape it. Short but challenging hole. It has a lot of trees that may be inhibiting proper growth on the green. The green is protected by the pond sitting in front of the green, too.
Par 4 Hole#18, is the hole that appears from the T-box as hitting a drive in a extremely exaggerated inclined hill. It sits parallel to Par 5#2. Take an extra club for your second shot. The walk uphill and the thin rough is a tough second shot.
Par 3#11 (127 yards), is a blind T-shot to the green in the valley. Fun.
Par4 #12 appears to be needing some maintenance as golfers approach the green.
Par 4 #13 (dogleg left) is my favorite hole. Risk and reward. Drive across the treed field and have a short second shot. If you don't clear the trees...oops! Also, it's easier to clear the trees in the early Spring as there aren't any foliage impeding your drive.
We were surprised how quiet it was on the course as there were a lot of twosomes playing without any pressure of golfer traffic. This was great for us as the walk can be a bit of a challenge as you have a number of times of walking steep pathways that slow your progress. It's not a "good walk spoiled". It's a good walk!
My golf partner (first-time) enjoyed the layout of the course as it had a variety of angles of view to travel from T-box to fairway to green. One of the common unnatural features on the course is the electrical transmission wires that cross the course on a number of holes. I'm not sure if it is the same number of times the creek or stream cross the course but I would rather have the water than electrical wires impacting my golf game than the wires.
The practice facility adjacent to the clubhouse has an enlarged green and mini-driving range of approximately 110 - 130 yards that permits you to hit your own balls.
The Valley course (and I'm assuming both) need to improve the quality of their bunkers. Again, this may be due to the time of year but, the bunkers were almost unplayable.
The club house hasn't changed in decades. That is good and bad. Remington is a company that builds residential properties in the GTA. I would encourage that they invest some of their capital in improving the structure of the building. Not sure if they are able to build residential properties adjacent to or are considering in developing on the Upper course, but the course could attract additional revenue if it upgraded its clubhouse and tournament services.
Looking forward to returning to the course later in the Spring and Summer when the trees are in full bloom.

Tired Old Golf

My golfing partner recommended this course as he played it 10 years on one of his golfing trips to Myrtle Beach. Sometimes memories are enhanced after a number of years in-between experiences. All courses I played at this time of year had dormant rough. Diamondback had dormant everything. Tee boxes were not recently cut or maintained and the greens appeared to struggle to be green. Cart pathways need to repaved. Absolutely terrible. Our problem was that we decided too late to book a decent course due to wet weather forecasts that did not materialize. What can you expect for $25 with cart? Not much.

Challenging and Attractive Course

We arrived at the course on the previous day we played due to a common GPS error sending us to River Hills instead of Eagles Nest. Thankfully, this happened as the course was in very good shape for mid-March weather. The rough was dormant but the greens, T-boxes and fairways were well-maintained and green. The course has some challenging holes and would benefit from a golf GPS to navigate your second and third shots. The driving range was inexpensive and accessible. The small restaurant would benefit by an update to the food available to its golfers. Otherwise, we had a very enjoyable day.

Pheasant Run-Fall Golf

The golf course was in good condition given the time of year. The greens were in above-average shape and surprisingly fast. The fairways were cleared of Fall leaves, although the rough could have benefited from some cleaning and lawn care.

Fall golf in the GTA can be very enjoyable as the leaves are turning and if the sun is shining, it can be quite enjoyable for the walk/drive through the well tree-lined fairways.

The staff were very helpful placing the golf bags on the carts especially given the early cold temperatures of the day.

The course played extra long due to the time of year and swirling and equally unpredictable winds.

The GolfNow Saturday fees were $70 CDN but no different from what was available at the course.

Eagles Nest-Scenic Views

This was my first game at Eagles Nest. Very scenic course with great views of the local and larger geographical area. The golf range was great and so were the pro shop and starter staff. I've played its sister-course (Turnberry) and was not disappointed with the quality of the on-course conditions. Surprisingly, the restaurant was empty after our round. While this was a quiet Monday and the parking lot was more than half full, my buddy and I were the only diners for lunch. The 19th Hole restaurant was equally quiet. Club house facilities are excellent as quality locker room options are available to golfers: premium shower supplies, showers, towels, etc.
The course is very enjoyable to play. Given the regular course fees available from GolfNow or on the course website, it is surprising that the golf carts do not have GPS. I brought my own but for the premium price normally charged, I would have expected this accessory as a "given". We got a great Hot Deal special. Worth the price.
