DarkHorse Golf Club
Played On 06/29/2018Great Twilight Round
I played a fast (2.5 hour) twilight round of 18 holes at 6pm on a warm Friday. Staff was friendly and GolfNow deal was unbeatable. Layout is very good with some challenging tee shots and interesting green complexes. Many tee shots have a little more room than they look. Some greens has some cool bowl and/or false front features. I thought that the conditions were solid for a public golf course. Fairways were great, rough was easy off the fairway with some thick stuff around the green (fantastic look and challenge). No complaints here. Unfortunately, the greens suffered from extreme lack of pitch-mark repair. Not really fault of the staff, but what is going on with modern golf etiquette...too good to take care of your course people!! Fix your own and 2 others...every green is what I was taught. I think the management would be better served with daily morning pitch mark repair on each green. Long-term it will do wonders. I don't have a problem with the bunkers, some thin spots, but they give a very natural look. Perhaps a local rule to remove stones would suffice (as many clubs do). It is rocky terrain. Lastly, it looked as though the back tees are in disrepair. No markers and some lackluster conditioning. Not terrible though, they probably don't (shouldn't?) get a lot of play. I'll be back.

I always have a fun time walking this course. Real good walk!! There is a fair amount of maintenence being done to the new driving range (not open) and hole #1. Looking forward to the improvements. Greens are hit or miss. Sneaky fast with slopes you need to read from all angles. I will be back.
The Ranch Golf Club

Spectacular setting for some spectacular golf. Not a course that you can really score at due to the ubiquitous OB and natural brush areas. Several holes remain closed still. Greens were aerated on Sept 22. I will come back to play the whole course.
Sharp Park Golf Course

I love the overall layout and greens at this course. Unfortunately, the conditions are not great. The fairways are kikuyu, but spotty. The greens in the canyon (3-6) are temp for the next X months. Those are some cool holes, but I appreciate the move to upgrade the greens for the long term. This course needs a little love and it could be really good. P.S. let's get rid of the cartpaths on 16 and 17. I'll be back for my 2 rounds a year at Sharp Park.
The Bridges Golf Club

classic Johnny Miller. Long carries on shortish holes that dogleg around hazards. This is a course for better players or those that can hit it straight off the tee. Otherwise you need to pack a dozen balls and br prepared to lose them all. Coursr was in good shapr. Greens were the fastest I hace played in the Bay this late summer. Pin placements can be tough on greens that blend into the surrouno. Some interesting slopes out there. You need to play a few times to feel comfortable with half of the terr ahots out here. I will play again.
Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course

Fun course that got more interesting as we continued the round. Greens seems to be 4-6 weeks out from aeration. They will be great in another 3 weeks. However the reat of the course was in great shape. My favorite overall Vegas-area course thus far. I would like to play again with non-aerated greens.
Bear's Best Las Vegas

"cool" course with a lot of different hole styles. However, this does manage to feel like a congruent course. First tee shot can be a Bear, but the course plays fair and keeps you guessing. There are some really good holes and the greens where on great shapr post the rye overseed. I would play here again.
Mountain Falls Golf Course

a tale of two nines. The front nine is a Nicklaus Co design and has an open desert feel. Well...at least until all the houses are built. Really good, not great. But a great course is rare. Back nine has a narrower feel as ypu play within the housing development. Front nine greens were great and most of the back nine greens were a not not as good with patchy grass. Greens are interesting and will keep multiple rounds interesting. Good value.
