Twelve Stones Golf Club
Played On 10/19/2022Great course could use some water
As usual the course is outstanding. Also as usual it is very dry. The greens are great, very fast and lush. The fairways are very good bermuda which of course is dormant now. Roughs are mowed high and are somewhat sparse which lets the ball settle down quite a bit and can be difficult to locate. Which is why I am always reminded to stay in the fairway! Wish I could. The tee boxes are another matter. Very dry and hard. Some of them were just dirt and most were very difficult to put a tee in. If they watered the tee boxes occasionally I would give this course a 4.7. As it was the other day, I give it a 4.3. Still a great place to play though, a great risk/reward course makes you think. And DO NOT MISS the Sandtrap Grill! Very excellent place to eat and have some beers after your round. The restaurant is a local favorite even for non-golfers.

Second time on Twelve Stones, will not be my last! I am moving to the Nashville area next spring and intend to play here often. Many good risk/reward opportunities for many different ways to play this course.
I will say several pin placements made us suspect the greens-keeper may be going through a divorce or something! Some of the cups reminded us of putt-putt holes. This was the only somewhat negative we could say about our day.
The Sandtrap bar and grill is so good, I will go there for lunch or dinner even if I'm not golfing, it's that good. Great staff, very friendly and professional while the food is excellent.
Twelve Stones Golf Club

I give 12 Stones 4 stars only because in my mind Hermitage (both courses) and Gaylord are the standard for a 5 and Stones isn't that. BUT it is a very good course. Visually very appealing, very challenging for me, an 18 handicapper, but if you keep it in the fairway it is fair. I lost 9 balls, one of which was absolutely in the rough just off the fairway and three of us could not locate it! Huge elevation changes throughout the course, I think it was 13 or 14 which is only 310 yards from the white tees but is so severely uphill that no one in our group had a GIR or less than a double bogey! My brother played the course last summer, he's a solid 4 handicap and lost 3 balls. He loved it and recommended it to me.
Now maybe the best part of the course is the Sand Trap Bar and Grille. Excellent food, full bar with a big selection of draft beers and the staff is maybe the friendliest, most efficient I have seen.
Can't give it a 5 but it is a 4.8 in my book. Wasn't option in the star rating section.
Gaylord Springs Golf Links
Played On 04/28/2020A tale of two experiences
First I have to say I love this course. Third time playing it over the last two years. Last year we played it as part of my future son-in-law's bachelor day and had a great time. My brother is a 5 handicap and plays all the best courses in the U.S. and even Scotland. He said if he lived in Nashville Gaylord Springs would be his home course he liked it so much. So I was excited to play it today.
Heavy rains the previous 3 days made the course a bit soggy and cart path only for carts. No worries, I get it. The disappointing part of the round is that there is some major construction going on. Two holes on the back nine are closed and one other is being played with a temporary hole (which I despise), so could only play 15 holes. The web site and pro shop were both very forthcoming about this which I appreciated very much.
All that said, the course is in very nice shape, the greens roll very true and pretty fast, despite the rains. I played the blue tees and they are fair but challenging. Rough is forgiving, though when you miss the fairway the links style hills can make finding your ball a challenge. The only balls I lost were in lakes due to errant shots on my part!
Pro shop staff and the starter are very friendly and helpful. The Grill is excellent and service very fast and friendly, despite COVID limitations.
I still love this course and will definitely be back, but not until they finish the construction.
Omni Amelia Island Resort - Oak Marsh
Played On 01/27/2020Very Nice
Really beautiful course, in nice shape. It's a resort course so not the most challenging (for good golfers!) but there are several holes that have good risk/reward opportunities and you have to be fairly creative many holes. Many houses line the fairways but at least if your on a hole without homes close by you have marsh and bay to consider. If I was a better duffer I would probably enjoy it even more.
I recommend the course to average to above average golfers. Visually appealing as well.
Bull Run Golf Club
Played On 06/06/2019Very Nice
My colleague and I finished work early in Leesburg and found a GolfNow deal for $45 so we hustled on over. We got there at the right time, hitting a big hole in the tee sheet so we were all by ourselves for the most part. Played the round in 3 and a half hours! Beautiful course, the greens and fairways are in great shape, the rough is pretty shaggy so if you didn't hit the fairway you'd better have a good eye to find your ball. Tee boxes could use some work but they weren't a problem, just the least perfect part of the course. There aren't a ton of elevation changes but it didn't strike me as the most walk-able course, some wide separation between holes. That's not a bad thing, just the fact.
The Grill makes an excellent hamburger and fries and Christian is the friendliest guys you'll meet. He does a great job taking care of customers in the grill.
Overall, very nice. Too bad it's in Haymarket and I live in Arlington, or this might be my home course!
