Pine Ridge Country Club
Played On 02/03/2020Hidden Gem
Pine Ridge is an Awesome course in quiet Edgefield, SC. Super Friendly Staff, challenging course, excellent greens, great pace of play. The are always upgrading the course with repairing cart paths, landscape upgrades and great maintenance on greens and traps! Definitely worth the drive to play this hidden gem just outside of Augusta!
Hickory Knob Golf Course
Played On 03/17/2019Worst Putting Greens Ever!
I have played this course often in the last 20 years, but it looks like someone used Green Spray Paint over hard packed dirt on most of the greens on St. Patrick's Day. Many of the Greens had pin placements on step inclines in areas where no grass existed on the surface, causing well hit putts and chips to roll of the greens because there was no grass there to stop the golf balls. I had several uphill putts on greens that rolled right up to the hole only to come back and roll off the putting surface. If you didn't hit the hole on any downhill putts, say goodbye to your golf ball! If you don't have decent grass on the greens, why putt pin placements on hills that are nearly impossible to hold the balls? I was planning on playing there Masters Week in April, but no way will these greens be ready in early April. I will be canceling my reservation that week. Hopefully they can fix these greens when it warms up.
Hickory Knob Golf Course
Played On 07/21/2017Rude Course Marshal
We have played this course several times over the years, but the last time we played, an middle-aged man in a maintenance cart kept following us on the front nine. We thought it was strange he was following me and my wife and our friend. We had no clue who he was. When we tee-off the 10th hole, he came by and was very obnoxious saying "Don't you know the 10th hole cart path only." Since there was no sign on the Tee Box, we didn't know what he was talking about. He then gives us a hard time for apparently not reading a small sign in the club house that stated that. He then says we aren't allowed to hit any golf balls from the pine straw in the woods, we can have free drops back on the fairway if we hot a ball into the pine straw. Sorry, that's not Real Golf! The man never identified himself as to what his job title was....we assumed he was maintenance worker, but I guess he was a course marshal. The funny thing was, the two-some behind us had their golf carts on the fairway too....he just drove by them without saying a word! The course was completely dry and the fairways firm, it made no sense for any holes to be cart path only...but if you do that...put a sign on the tee-box! The greens were horribly slow and needed to be cut down considerably!
