Played a few times...

So, this review is unique because the day it is asking me to review I didn't actually play.

I have played the course 4-5x at this point. Interesting layout, challenging, some holes that are gorgeous and menacing, and a few easier ones on the back nine to go along with it. New and needs some time to develop and settle in over the next year or two. I would recommend playing it now to enjoy it at a very generous price.

Today - I signed up for an early tee time trying to get a quick 18 on a cold day before I had to go to work. I got a call 30 minutes later and they let me know they had a 1-2 hour frost delay and wanted me to know before I headed out. I ended up not going (I had to work) - but was highly impressed that they a) called, b) gave me a refund, c) cared to let me know and saved me the time.

Each time I go, the service gets better and better. Only thing missing is a driving range to warm up. Aside from that - highly recommend.

Worth my drive and then some

Live on the westside, but wanted to try a new course and since it was rainy, this one was wide open on GolfNow.

Played as a single from the back tees and it was a challenge. Despite constant rain, the course was firm in most places and greens were receptive but rolled quick and true. With dry weather, you can tell the greens will be fast. Used GPS to account for never playing before and lots of blind shots.

Par 3s are challenging in length (185-220 uphill). Par 4s were largely interesting except for a few - but I appreciate straight and 350 off the first tee to get some swings in. Range is 1 min offsite.

Overall - loved my round. Lots to consider on this course and it sure wasn't an easy one. Tips play long on a lot of holes and I used a lot of long irons in my round. Pleasant change, worth the hour drive, would be back.

Worth the Drive

Went here since I was playing alone and the tee sheet didn't look packed, was in for a nice surprise. Course was well maintained, staff friendly, range was a + (always good after a long drive).

Course was interesting. Lots of elevation changes, blind shots, etc. For $30 and being out in the country, it was very well maintained. Was a little wet from the night before, but fairways were cut, green held well and rolled true.

Loved about half of the holes, liked the other half. No hole was a throw away and hit darn near every club I had with me. Winds made strategy and club selection important. I will be back for sure.

Not what I was looking for from a Country Club...

Had high expectations and was excited when I saw the time online. Spent $45, which was fair, especially since you get a bag for the range. Wanted to check it out since I am looking at a few clubs for the upcoming year.

Having played a fair amount of Private golf, I am used to a little higher quality. From the jump, at the pro shop, the service wasn't as welcoming as I would expect. Playing as a guest at other clubs, it is usually very high level service since they want you to join. They made it seem like I was intruding and not welcome, even though they posted the tee times.

Course itself was decent. Shorter in terms of yardage topping out around 6500. Par 3s were nice, but all were 150 yards or so with one exception. Par 4s were nicely varied, and all par 5s were short.(500ish tops)

What I did notice was the course was only in so-so shape and some things you would not expect a Country Club to neglect (i.e. ball washers) were not tended to. Pace of play was slow, but to be expected on a Sunday. Lots of burn out on greens, which rolled nicely and most of the course didn't seem tended to at the level I would expect for a private club. If I was spending a $3-$4K a year to belong, I'd be a little miffed.

So - if you want a nice round, I would give it a go. Just don't have the expectations that it is going to be better than a nice public course. I'd rather play Pine Hills or Shale Creek in the area or a course like Legacy, Boulder Creek, etc - which have all the amenities.

I see you are from Cleveland. I'm surprised Rosemont's reputation hasn't reached you. What do you expect from a private club posting public tee times?

Great Course for $30

Have always liked this course - always well kept, moderately challenging. A little short at times - but I enjoy because I have the chance to hit a lot of the clubs in my bag. Nice range, which is usually always open, and good overall facilities. Not a bad course to play when wet since it drains decently and cart path only isn't a bear.

I like to play it during the week only for a few reasons:

1) Weekend tee times at $60 do not present a great value. The course itself, IMO, is not worth that. Nice, and worth playing, but I won't pay that much.

2) Pace of play - less people during the week can make for a 2-3 hour round. Weekends can take 4-5 hours with people packed in.

Overall - I would recommend, but not on the weekends, especially if it is packed. Also a great course if you get up early to be first off the tee. Its under a 2 hour round before work.

Good course if the price is right....

Love this place. Great facilities, GPS on the carts, run well. Interesting holes which you can play long or short based on varied tees.

What's not to like? $65+ on the weekends and not too many discounted rates. Definitely work the drive from Cleveland if you can score a hot deal or find rates knocked down a bit. I still think it may be worth it at $65 for most, I just hate paying that much for a round of golf unless it is at a premier course.

Nice, local course

Look - I will start by saying this is not a "top" course in the area, but I find myself playing a lot of rounds here. Why? It is solid, usually fairly inexpensive, and holds up well in all kinds of weather... plus the staff is usually nice and uses common sense in how they let people off of the course.

Greens and complexes are subtly raised (good for drainage) and tough on shots - all have subtle breaks and putting isn't the easiest. The layout is pretty simple. There are some short holes, great holes (Par 5 #11), and some boring ones.

All in all - a great place to play that is close to the city. Would be great if they had a range! We paid $45 on a Sunday which is a little more than I would like to spend, but commonly pay $25-30 during the week, which is fair.

I would recommend, but if it is over $35, you should temper your expectations.

Torn on how to rate this course

I am torn on how to rate this course. On one hand, when in good shape it is a fun track. A fair amount of interested holes, varied distances and elevations, makes you think about what to play and how to play it. On the other hand, it could be better taken care of. Having a lot of bunkers are always a challenge, but some were pretty bad (others very nice).

Pace of play suffers a bit due to course difficulty (I would not recommend to a beginner. Plus we got stuck behind a foursome of older folks) - but they could do a touch better managing the flow of golfers. Starter and staff were friendly and it does live up to slightly elevated expectations in that regard. Groundskeepers were pleasant and working, except for a few guys who didn't seem to realize they were working on a golf course and had little awareness.

My big issue here is the value for the price. I like it, would make the drive, and play it again - but not for anything over $30. The range is always a plus, but asking me to make a 50 minute drive, and pay $50+ for the course is more than I would be willing to do. A lot of similarly ($50-$70 courses) that are better in my opinion. If you can get a good hot deal (we used one) and go at a non-peak time - it is definitely worth the play.... but no weekend golf there for me anytime in the near future. I can imagine it would be a little tough.

Worth the drive

Second time playing this course - first was as a fairly new golfer. They spread the tees out well so anyone could have a good time. Played the tips this time and found it to be fun, but also challenging. For July, with no rain in a month, the conditions were actually pretty decent (not burnt out at all) and fairways were well watered.

The course itself has some great holes, some fun holes, and, to be honest, a few fairly routine ones - but with elevation changes, well placed sand (which was in good condition), and water coming into play. There are also a lot of mature trees to add a challenge.

Played mid-afternoon on a Wednesday as a single and everyone was friendly, If the course was packed, I could see it being slow, but finished in under 2h45m following a few twosomes and practicing chipping while I waited. Love it and will be back.

The only downside is there isn't great practice or warm-up facilities available (a small tree on #1 if you play the shorter tees. Clubhouse was fine - but not the reason I play a course, so I will defer to others. Worth the drive and at $24 - def. worth the price.

I am not sure I quite get the fuss...

Look - this is a nice course. Nice amenities and a good staff. About the course itself, I listen to people RAVE about it, saying it is one of the best in the city, I just don't get it. It is a NICE course - don't get me wrong, but not a lot of variety in the holes for me and some holes that personally, I am just not a fan of.

I encourage everyone to play there and give it a shot to see what you think - but for me, I like plenty of other courses in the city and surrounding a lot better.

Big issue on the negative side is pace of play is typically not great. They get crowded and the rangers/starters try their best - but what can you do? On slower days, there always seems to be slight confusion about where you tee off (1 or 10) and when you should go....

Good Winter GOlf

Course was in fairly decent shape for late December. Holes were varied, and interesting. Nice variety of straight forward, dog legs, undulations, and elevation changes. Along with Sleepy Hollow, this is the best the Metro Parks has to offer in their line-up. Will be looking forward to playing again next year in the summer to really see all the course has to offer.

Greens will be nice to see in the summer. Lots of slopes - but covered in sand as they prepped for the winter ahead (if it ever comes).

Pace of Play was great - considering there were no more than 5 groups on the course itself.

Nice Course for the Fall

Played here a few times, once in the spring when conditions were a little rough around the edges. Some things still aren't great (most of the sand has not been maintained well enough to consider playable) - but overall the shape was decent.

The course provides a good test and the links style makes it nice to play in the fall when you don't have to search through leaves for a ball not the fairway.

As the other review mentioned, they did aerate the greens recently - which every course is currently doing - and I think that $30 still presents a good value with that in mind.

Played as a two some on a weekday and only had to play through one group (who was very nice about it). Range is nice as well and overall facilities are good. The only negative for me is the state of the sand.

Nice Course!

Always drove by on my way to Shale Creek and wanted to stop. This is a nice old-style course. When I played, it was in great shape (except for recently aerated greens). Was challenging at times, easy at others, which made for a real fun round.

Played as a single and pace was pretty decent. I would definitely go back and play the course again.

Worth the Drive from Cleveland or Columbus

Met my Father half way for a mid-morning round. Was pleasantly surprised by the course, conditions, and amenities. Tons of elevation changes, well-contoured to the terrain, and everything in good shape.

Website is hard to get the info - but they do have a driving range which is a plus after a 90 minute drive to get there. Carts are GPS enabled so you can easily get distances without your phone or range finder.

Played forward with my Father (a senior) so the course played a little easier for me, but looking at the Blues and the tips, I think it would be a good challenge for the next time I head down that way (which will be soon I hope) - plus all of this for $35 a person.

Overall - loved it. Only complaint, albeit small, was the maintenance guys didn't have good awareness of when golfers were around - one guy kept mowing around the green on a par 3 for a few minutes without looking up and another guy just stood around in one of the fairways). That being said, it didn't ruin a great day of golf.
