The Quarry Golf Course
Played On 09/16/2016Greens Headed Down
Have played this course a few times and considered it to be one of the better places to play in San Antonio with fast, smooth greens. This time, fairways were good, but the greens were slow and bumpy. They painted them to make them look better, but the greenskeeper is allowing invasive species to start. The pace of play was OK the first 9, but near 3 hours for the back. We never saw a marshall the entire round. Waiting 5 - 10 minutes every shot. Won't be back.

Loved the layout of this Arnold Palmer design. Course fairways a bit thin but no bad lies. Greens had just been aerated and I had no knowiedge prior. Greens were very bad. Looked diseased and had additional problems - large bare spots and indentations. Greeter named Travis was very good.

Not a bad layout at all, but you are hitting off hardpan all the time. Many fairways are sloped so even with a good drive, the ball will roll into the trash on the sides because of the excessive roll out due to the hardpan. the greens are the only place where there is water applied and they are firm as well. You have to play short and let the ball bounce onto the green. Looks like they may be installing an irrigation system in the future, but right now, paying a little too much for a goat pasture.

Good layout but plays tough because of fairway slopes and firmness. The greens were aerated 4 weeks ago and they are still miserable to play on. The biggest complaint is the speed difference between greens - some slow some fast. The back nine has a tendency to be much slower than the front, in general.

Great layout, great scenery, aggravating greens. Surface treatments of greens make the ball actually roll up slope at times. The practice if disrupting the surface and creating "corn rows" to putt through takes the enjoyment out of the round. Need to find a way to keep greens playable while performing routine maintenance. Other courses I've played have done the same treatments without disrupting ball roll.

We also wanted to add we are proud of the may advances we have made to the golf experience and customer satisfaction at Tapatio Springs Resort. For the benefit of all the golfers who appreciate the reviews and comments provided by Golf Advisor, the greens at Tapatio recently received a deep verticutting. Verticutting is a common maintenance practice provided for high quality greens to both increase turf density and curb the impact of plant/leaf grain. Tapatio Springs Resort is a high quality golf experience due in part to the quality turf conditions we have achieved and continue to nurture. Regular intervals of verticutting is part of our maintenance practices however, we recently applied a deeper more aggressive setting prior to the expected sustained summer temperatures. Regular verticutting depths will usually go unnoticed by the average golfer while a deep verticut may be noticed for 3-4 days. Some very challenging holes - some too easy. Fairways sparse, greens good speed but had foot traffic bumps and more than a few ball marks. Beautiful scenery. Good value though.

Fun course design wise but gets too much traffic with no one filling divots in the fairways or fixing ball marks on the greens. The greens were very inconsistent speed wise. Patches of grass were longer in areas with corresponding decrease in speed. probably will not play here again.

Need a course map and the available map does not show the tricks the designer put in. Pleasant though and very near where we stayed. promising course but greens were extremely slow, ruining the overall experience. Cost of items in the pro shop were out of line.
