Great condition, nice layout

Colts neck is a very nice layout. The rough is penal but not US Open-style so you can advance your ball but still have to consider the lie. Greens were firm and running quite nicely, but I prefer fast greens. Carts have GPS with all of the latest views, etc. The starter was very friendly but he was the exception.

I did have one pretty big issue - the battery on our GPS died after 6 holes. Because the club is so reliant upon the GPS units the course isn't marked well so we struggled with distance all day. Since you don't go near the clubhouse again after the 3rd hole it was a bit of a struggle. Considering the surly nature of the staff we were reluctant to call the clubhouse and get a new cart driven out to us and then feel obligated to tip them for something we should have had all along. Also, at the end of or round the pro shop was closed so there was no one around to listen to a complaint, including the cart staff.

Other than the cart issue I'd recommend this course. Just leave your yourself enough time to play as pace of play isn't monitored. You also should bring your own drinks as there was no one driving around with beverages.

This is a really fun layout, but

I've played it twice. I really enjoy the links-like features employed in the design: waste areas with long grass around them, shaved banks around greens, etc. Greens were in very nice shape. The staff were very nice and friendly.

I've got 2 points of contention. I don't use a GPS when I play and my experience was the poorer for it. The course is not marked very well and so you're left measuring from the 100/150/200 markers , which only exist on one side of the hole. A GPS would also assist with the distances to the various hazards that exist in the middle of the fairways.

The second issue is pace of play. During my first round (1 week earlier) the back 9 took 2 hours, 25 mins. During this latest round the back 9 took 2 HOURS, 45 MINS and I didn't play the last 3 holes due to back issues. Not a ranger in sight. This is "outing slow". Unfortunately as much as I enjoy the course, this is a dealbreaker for me. I won't be back.

If you'd like to try a course with a different layout than the usual fare and want to roll the dice on pace of play, Sea Oaks is absolutely worth a try.
