The Club Renaissance
Played On 12/23/2022Good, not great
The front 9 felt very vanilla, the back 9 added a bit more interesting design, but overall not the most memorable course we've played. Lack of a practice range or even hitting nets feels like a big miss. The best aspects of the course were 1 - very friendly pro shop staff and 2 - green conditions. The greens are very firm, which can be frustrating but helped make an otherwise ordinary course more interesting.
The Links at Greenfield Plantation
Played On 12/22/2022Bang for your buck
We quickly decided that this course will be on our short list for the first round of a Sarasota trip. Conditions weren't great given we played at the end of December, but the nice variety and challenge in course layout made it a great value. A full driving range would be nice, but they have a few mats to hit irons into the lake as a warm up. Greens are not fast or very challenging, but were rolling true even in the lousy weather.
10 & 19 at University Park Country Club
Played On 12/21/2022Popular for good reason
On the expensive side for the area, but worth the price for a quality golf experience. Interesting and challenging layouts, great conditions on the greens, and a very nice practice area and range. The only real downside was that, because the course is so popular and gets so much traffic, the heavy traffic areas on course are a little beat up - at least for us in late December. We'll definitely play here again at least once to try the last 9 we haven't seen
Esplanade at Azario Lakewood Ranch
Played On 12/20/2022Hidden gem, play it while you can!
According to a neighborhood resident that joined our group, this course will go private once the neighborhood development is complete. Get in and play it while you can! Even on a rainy December day, it was a joy to play this course with a variety of hole layouts and great amenities. Most holes are pretty open off the tee, but hitting into and around the greens is where the fun happens. Massive undulations on pretty much every green means you can't take any holes off, and a 4 putt is much more likely.
Rosedale Golf & Country Club
Played On 12/19/2022It keeps me coming back
Rosedale has earned a permanent spot on our annual Sarasota trip, as is is both a great value and provides an excellent challenge. Course conditions are pretty good across the board, not perfect in mid December but still better than average. This is definitely a shot maker's course, tight fairways (especially from farther back tees) and not-too-big greens to target means precision and accuracy is key. Grind your mind/short irons and keep the driver in the bag for most holes, and you too can score at Rosedale
