City Club Marietta
Played On 04/20/2023Dirt track
I arrived an hour before my tee time and checked in at the pro shop. No issue there and the staff was fine. Went down to check in with the starter and grab my range balls. Threw my bag on a cart and was told “sir that’s not your cart”. Ok, which one is my cart? “Come back at your tee time.”. Kind of ridiculous to not let your guest, when they arrive to get a cart to situate their belongings to be ready to go when it is time. Played a lot of golf and have never experienced this. Instead I walked awkwardly to the range with all my belongings and balls to the range, which in my opinion is unnecessary. Traffic is bad so everyone else is running late but not late for the tee time. Everyone arrives on time and we tee off on time. The course itself has seen better days. There are a lot of hard dirt bare patches and tee boxes that are in rough shape. The greens are the best thing this place has going for it. We finished up our first 9 at right at two hours. The group behind us didn’t wait a single minute on us and wasn’t even on 9 tee when we stopped at the clubhouse before going to 10. There was a twosome ahead of our foursome we waited on twice on the front. Myself and one other person in our group went into the clubhouse for food and water. They had grab and go sandwiches and a good selection. Staff was friendly. No issues there. I had to wait on someone ahead of me to order and pay so that took a few minutes. I head back out to the cart and see two employees had just talked to the other people in our group and asked what that was about. “Kyle” from Galveston was asking them if they were only playing 9 and making comments about keeping up with pace of play. A few issues here “Kyle”. We played the front in two hours which is the definition of pace of play. You should also expect (and want) people to stop and spend money at the turn so it was weird to me that he seemed to be discouraging that (I spent $30 in about 8 minutes). My bad “Kyle”. Won’t happen again. We all head over to 10 and I expect that the group behind us would be hot on our heels after the fuss from “Kyle” but they were just on #9 tee. I think “Kyle” should be better at reading situations before opening his mouth. It was unpleasant to be rushed for zero reason. We also purchased drinks from the beverage cart twice and she was another good staff member. Food and beverage and great greens is about all this place has going for it. Golf staff left a lot to be desired. We finished up our round exactly Four hours and ten minutes after our tee time which included our stop at the turn. Our group plays together once or twice a month and we all agreed that this course would not be on the list anymore.
City Club Marietta
Played On 08/26/2019Much Improved
I had not played this course in over a year because of the shape the course was in. Everything is much improved now. The new greens are still a little bumpy but I imagine by next summer this place will be great again.
Smoke Rise Country Club
Played On 07/20/2019Slightly overpriced for under maintained course
This course has the potential to be the course they are charging people to play it. It is a tight and difficult challenge and you can leave your driver at home. The greens are incredible condition. The fairways are mostly in good shape but bare in places and will challenge your ability to hit off uneven lines on about every shot. The bunkers appear that they have not been raked in months and some didn't even have rakes. The tees were the other downfall of this course and not what you would expect for a course that charges over $60. My last complaint is that we were rushed off the first tee about 15 minutes before our scheduled time by ranger "Bob". There was no one behind us the entire round and all that was accomplished by us going out early was that we got to sit behind the tournament in front of us for the entire back 9. I would go back here if friends booked it again but it would not be my go to. There are just too many other great courses in Atlanta that have checked all the boxes as far as course maintenance that this place has not.
Hello. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the tee boxes and sand traps is important to us. We are working to get everything at the course up to par. We have a project to tile the bunkers and restore the tee boxes. The current condition is not the standard we strive to achieve. We are glad to see you rated the course layout and greens to be great during your game. We will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Smoke Rise. We hope to see you again soon.
Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
Played On 06/02/2019Would not recommend
Where to begin? We played Lakemont side. First you have to pay $20 to park at a golf course. Driving range was complimentary which was a plus except they have matted tee boxes. It was almost 100 degrees and we saw the cart girl on #2 and that was it. The entire place seemed understaffed for a Sunday that they also had a tournament going on the Stonemont side. They have a snack trailer at the turn and it was closed when we made the turn. Green fee was $75. The tee boxes on every par three were in disrepair. The greens were the worst part of the entire experience. While they appear to be in good shape they were mowed way too high and putts rolled like putting on a shag carpet. Sand traps were not in great shape and one I landed in didn't have a rake. In summary, there are way better courses for $95(parking included).
Thank you very much for giving us another try. The new greens are coming in nicely, they just need to mature now. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
