Sunday at Blackhawk with the Wife

Found a great deal on GolfAdvisor for $28.50 for 2 on weekend. Wife has been taking lessons and wanted to go somewhere new (for her). Actually teed off a few minutes for our time as the course was not crowded. We played the front 9 in 1 hour 20 minutes-she is nervous about others pushing us but not the case here. She really enjoyed it but was done after 9. I played the back nine solo thru # 14 then called it a day. Greens were in good shape & fairways were decent for this time of year after a hot summer. I played #18 on way back in and finished in 2 hours exactly. Looking forward to finding another deal so we can play again.

Good place to take a beginner

Went to PV after 4 years away on a Sunday. Both pleasantly surprised and dissappointed. The Good- course was in best shape I've seen and the deal on GolfNow made it a bargain for the drive. Many holes are risk/reward but a fun tract to play with mix of doglegs, trees, & few of short par 4's. Greens in really good condition. The Bad- the huge bottleneck at #1 since it's 9 hole course, golfers making the turn assume they are next. We we pushed back 22 min & to make it worse, a group of hackers were 2 groups ahead. After watching them take 7-8 shots each to reach the par 4 #1 green, knew it was going to be torture. After waiting on #2 tee box for 5 min, saw open holes on #5 & 6---we made our way over & played in. Re-teed on #1 after 9---while we are on #2 , I see the slow group teeing off on #5 (after we've played 7 holes) No Marshal around & they were in carts! No one minds a bad golfer, but nobody likes a bad, slow golfer. Probably worth the drive on a weekday but not fun waiting and not golfing.

Highland Lakes is a fun course to play

Meet up with my college roommate for a round and had a good time playing HL. Hills, natural terrain, scenic views and outstanding layout make this course both challenging and fun to play. Some long par 3's await you here -along with really good par 4's for every golfer to enjoy. Course knowledge is a big help and setting up for your approach with the right angle is a must to score. Finished our round on a Friday in 3 hours….Outstanding golf and will take friends out to play when they come to town!

Much improved course…..

I used to play Crystal Falls a lot back in the early 90's when it was 1. much cheaper & 2. few people played so it was easy to get on & get around (plus I would walk). With Golf Now , I was able to return after 5 years and the original layout is the same but the growth of the CF community and improvements, made it seem like a different course. Fairways were in good shape with all the rain we've had and greens were excellent. I teed off at 1:20 and joined up with another single after the 1st hole. We played the front nine in 1:15---no hurry, just no one to slow us down. Got behind some slower groups on #14 but it was a very enjoyable round. There are a couple of narrow fairways and landing areas the require control but the par 3's are fun to play with the elevation changes.

Bluebonnet is ready for Spring Play!

Got a 7:44 tee time on GolfNow for great price for our group. The staff was very nice & allowed us to slide into another time slot as 2 of our group were coming in from out of town to join us & running late.
The fairways were hard (normal in winter) but the greens were in fantastic shape and rolled fast & true--the best in the Austin area for all public courses. BH has cleared out a lot of the rough so if you miss a fairway, you can find your ball and salvage the hole. Wide fairways & few trees gives everyone a chance to reach greens in regulation. There are several par 4's that are easy to reach but if the wind is against you on some holes (par 5's and #17-par 3 across water), you have your work cut out. Pace of play was excellent-- finished in less than 4 hours. I highly recommend BH to any level of golfer to enjoy a nice course & avoid the slow play elsewhere.

Lost Pines is a golfer friendly course that is fun to play.

Lost Pines golf course, located just inside the state park, is a good place to play if you are a beginner & don't like being crowded. And you can't beat the price.
The front 11 is more wide open with few tall pines, many oaks, several bunkers, but only 1 water hazard. (the turn is after #11) The fairways are pretty rough and few greens were patchy but it is fun to see how well you can score on this type of course. The back 7 has back to back long Par 5's ...plus another one with carry over a huge ravine after your tee shot. The 2 par 3's are easy to shoot at (150 & 130...all carry) Finishing hole is dogleg & #1 handicap. Huge pines line the back fairways so errant shots will cost you.Took my girlfriend out to play & she is just starting out golfing. No one was there and she really enjoyed the scenery & can't wait to go back. Played 18 in 2 hrs 40 min. & less than $20 for 2 green fees & a cart! Great deal thru GolfNow. Looking to play golf & enjoy the round without paying alot, this is the place.

Want sand, water, canyons, hills, trees, and reality check of how good a golfer you are? Then this is the place.

ShadowGlen is a challenge to any golfer in Central Texas. Sloping fairways, undulating greens, and a combo of fairway & greenside traps added to the ponds, creeks and natural terrain add up to a booger of a course. 2 long Par 3's (190+yds) test your iron play and 2 Par 5's (#7 & #13) are long & tricky. Seems every green is protected by bunkers that can swallow your ball and add insult to injury. #9 is a great risk-reward hole-a par 4 with 245 pure carry over a canyon but 2 of our foursome were putting for eagle as a result. #18 is finishing Par 5 that is wide open and gives you a chance to birdie.Only top level players should try to back tees.....Knowing where to aim & contour of the course really helps. Fairways were nice and Greens were in great shape.

Teravista will give you all you can handle....and more.

Like a challenge of target golf & not just swinging for the fences each tee shot then Teravista is the place. Played from the blue tees (6600+ yds) & it's not the length so much as you need to avoid the many fairway bunkers on almost every hole. Good mix of doglegs & forced carries to make you plan for 2nd shot while hitting the 1st. Par 3's are long & guarded so accuracy is a must. Par 5's are long & tough. Water comes into play on alot of holes as well. Greens were in great shape and rolled very true. Was able to play with a Golfnow Hot Deal and it was well worth it as this is a high-end daily fee course. Carts had GPS, staff got me out ahead of my tee time and the course was in top shape.

Hill Country golf at it's best!

I hadn't played at Delaware Springs in 6 years so went with college buddy this week and it was even better than before. An outstanding mixture of hills, trees, sand, water and doglegs to make you think of your tee shot with you approach in mind. The greens were the best I've putted on in years-similar Horseshoe Bay ( about a 12 on the stimpmeter) They roll true and fast! Lagging skills are a must! The par 3's were a test -esp. #16- and the front side has 3 Par 5's so birdie are possible. A couple of short par 4's give you a really good chance to score well but you must in the fairway. 5 sets of tee boxes allow for variety of distances to match your skill level. I am looking forward to coming back again. If you want a taste of Hill Country golf, this should be on your list!

Hill Country golf at it's best!

Lago Vista is a hidden gem that golfers should play when they get a chance. Lago includes wide fairways, rolling terrain, cleverly placed bunkers, elevated tee boxes, large undulating greens, and great views of Lake Travis & the Hill country -not to mention hundreds of deer. The par 3's are long with alot of carry but par 4's allow for chances to score if irons are accurate. #9 is a great hole with tiered fairway. Several blind shots required so playing with a local helps out. #8 & #15 are monster par 5's. Course was in great shape and greens roll true. One of the best values Golfnow has. I can't wait to play it again.
