Myrtle Beach National Golf Club - King's North Course
Played On 07/03/2016The King Doesn't Put His Name to Mediocrity
The course started out like any other course in the area but after that it was a gem as far as layout and challenge.Very pleasing to the eye with water coming in to play on most of the holes some requiring carry to the greens..Overall condition was good as far as fairways and greens. Some courses in the area are beat up but Arnie would never let that happen here. The signature hole is a par 5 called "The Gambler" You can either try to hit your driver onto an island leaving yourself a mid-iron to a green protected by water in front, or you can take the safe and longer way. i played in the afternoon and there was nobody here(too hot I guess) There are three courses at this complex with this one the most expensive. The others, the West and the South aren't to shabby either. If your looking to splurge a little, it's definitely worth it.
Aberdeen Country Club - Highlands/Meadows
Played On 06/18/2016Aberdeen a nice Track
Unfortunately the greens were in bad shape. They punched them 2 weeks prior and it was like putting on the Ho-Chi-Minh trail on most greens. The layout I thought was excellent with water coming in to play on most if not all holes. Fairways were in great shape and if they ever get the greens back this place would be a 10.Liked the fact that the par 3's were mid-iron. I'll give it another chance in 6 months as it's still reasonably priced.
Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/17/2016P Poor Pawleys
Well, they did get the greens back in shape, alas, they forgot about the rest of the course. Fairways and tee boxes were in horrible shape.Played a course down the road and it was miles ahead of this one in terms of condition. When a course is in this condition they should offer a discount. The 17th is a 70 yd 3 if you can believe that. Stay away.
The Heritage Club
Played On 06/17/2016Heritage a Home Run
I've found my favorite course in Mrytle Beach. From the first hole til the eighteenth this course is a gem.Fairways a 10, greens a 10,and the tee boxes a 10 also. Huge oaks shape the holes and water comes in to play on half of them. The par threes were all mid-irons which is perfect for the mid-handicapper. A lot of courses down here seem to try to make up for the short par 4's down here with 200 yd par 3's. Not here.Compared to the other courses in the area the price is a steal. Beautiful picturesque pleasing to the eye golf course. Will definitely be back.
Thistle Golf Club - Cameron Course
Played On 06/16/2016Thistle a no-brainer.
Thistle is everything everyone here has said it would be. From the bag drop to the 18th hole the place is top shelf. We took advantage of a free replay and played 36. Greens are fast, roll true and in great shape .A true test of golf.Wide Fairways were all in good condition. Will definitely be back.
Forsgate Country Club - The Banks
Played On 05/15/2016Forsgate Overrated
This course gets a lot of attention here in Central Jersey and I'm not sure why. I found it to be in great shape and very well taken care of. From tee to fairway is fine. It's when you get on or near the greens is when the clowns and the windmills come out.Huge undulating greens(rolled very true BTW and in great shape). Miss a green and you could be in a bunker 40' deep. Hit it on the wrong side of the flag could put you 40' feet away from the whole or in one of those monstrous bunkers. I hit what I thought was a perfect 6 on a par 3. Ball rolled off the green and down an embankment. The guest fee is over $100 and I don't see what the big deal is with this course. Totally overrated.
The only thing clear about this post is that JackStraw6 has no clue about golf architecture or it’s history. That’s ok! Not every course needs to be straight away and a rather unprotected green.
Challenging course, especially the long par 3's! Good Country Club atmosphere without the snootiness - staff & members are very friendly. Regarding guest fee - I always look at price vs. value received.
Litchfield Country Club
Played On 04/08/2016Placement a key at Litchfield
Course is not that long and if your up to a challenge can be played from the tips. I played from the whites and when I hit hit straight was left with a mid-iron or less to get home. The par threes are all quite long making it more difficult for a hacker like myself. This seems to be the norm down here as they seem make up for all 350 yd 4's with long 3's You'll need to put the ball in the fairway to score here though..Overall the course was in fine shape. No complaints on the fairways and greens.
General James Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University
Played On 04/06/2016Hackin' at Hackler
Course was in good shape. Fairways and greens. There was no rough so any shot that missed the fairway left you with a somewhat decent lie. Not sure if that's how they keep it, or because it was early April.Greens rolled nice and I found them to be fun and challenging with undulations. They held the mid-iron shots quite well. There are a bunch of doglegs but I still was able to hit driver on all but one. It's the College of Coastal Carolina's home course so you'll bump into some aspiring pros out there.
General James Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University
Played On 04/04/2016Hackin' at Hackler
When I found out Hackler was Coastal Carolina University's home course I figured it was a plush top notch course and for the price I couldn't go wrong. While it's not, I found it to be a very good course. It wasn't very long with a bunch of doglegs, yet I was able to hit driver on all but one. Fairways and greens all in good shape . The par threes are all over 170 yds which makes the course a bit more difficult for a weekend hack like me. I prefer at least two mid-iron 3's. I'd recommend this course to anyone.
Palmetto at Myrtlewood Golf Club
Played On 04/04/2016No worries at Myrtlewood Palmetto
Course in good shape. Any wayward balls were easy to find as it's all pines and your ball stuck out like a sore thumb. I'm going on experience cause I was in there a few times.Don't think it's an easy out though, you'll be penalized. Greens were beat up though. C'mon people. FIX YOUR BALL MARKS! You should feel good about it even if you're not on in reg.Not overly difficult course though. You hit it straight, you'll score.
You gave it only 3 stars after that narrative? And you're holding people not fixing their marks against the course? Not a valid review and should be anended. This course is immaculate!
The Meadows at Middlesex Golf Club
Played On 11/08/2015A Public Course
Can't believe all the bad reviews this place has been getting. It's been a brutally hot summer and most public courses have felt the heat. The course has rebounded nicely and I found it to be in great shape. Greens were in excellent condition as were the fairways. It's a par 70 with 6 par 3's so if you play the 3's well you can post a good number. There are some short 4's on the front side but don't let that make you think it's easy. The back has some very tough 4's. You make your hay on the front and try to survive on the back. All in all, for a public course it's a very good test and would recommend playing it.But remember, it's a PUBLIC course. Don't come and expect country club conditions.
Whispering Pines Golf Course
Played On 11/05/2015The First course you'll see when your plane lands.
I played this course after a couple days of heavy rain so I was prepared for a soggy round. I found the course to be in very good condition and the greens in superb condition.Nothing spectacular, just a solid challenging golf course. Don't let the yardage fool you though, it plays longer and the back side is a true test. Not a bad price either. I'll be back.
Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club
Played On 08/26/2015Wide Fairways here.
And you'll need your long irons too.Every green is well guarded by bunkers so you'll need to fly the greens also. Bent grass greens(starter told me that, but it makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about) and they roll a little slower.Course was a little wet so it played a little longer. A true test of your game and I would definitely come back. Also, remember, you're at sea level so you'll need one more club.
Wild Wing Plantation - Avocet Course
Played On 08/23/2015Wild Wing a True Test
Don't let the first hole fool ya. After this manageable dogleg, the holes lengthen and the long irons have to come out of the bag. Quite a few long par fours here folks. I found myself hitting 4/5 irons into greens instead of 7/9.As with most courses down here, it's in great shape and the greens fast and true. As most hackers do, I prefer them a little on the slow side. I'd definitely bring the fellas here for a round.
Man O' War Golf Course
Played On 07/08/2015Water water everywhere.
Man o' War is a good place for the average hacker like myself. As with any course that you play for the first time, there are some places that you don't want to hit the ball that you don't know about. Water comes into play on most holes but as we all know, it's just an illusion and not there. I found the course to be in good shape and the greens medium fast. Most of the par 4's are under 400 so that's a plus. I would definitely play here again. But this time I'm bringing the bug spray.
The Wizard Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2015Don't go in the woods...
and be wary near the water for alligators" When the starter tells you this, don't go looking for wayward shots.Knowing where to hit the ball here is a plus as there are some hidden hazards on some holes. Thought the course was well suited for my game. Short par 4's, reachable 5's and mid-iron 3's. Wasn't in the greatest of shape though. I'd play it again, but there are others that I'd try first.
Lakes/Waterway at Arrowhead Country Club
Played On 06/10/20153 to play
This facility has 3 nines.I played The Lakes and Cypress. Not extremely long, I play the whites. As with most courses I've played in MB it's in good shape. Greens were fast and rolled true. You'll need to hit it straight here though as there are bunkers that come into play on most holes.I found it to be a challenge and I'll bring the boys here for a round.
Blackmoor Golf Club
Played On 06/06/2015A quirky course.
I found the course to be in good shape. The tee boxes, fairways and greens both in good condition. No problem with pace of play either. However there are quite a few holes that you have to keep the driver in the bag. I suppose Gary didn't have much room to work with so he had to make a lot of doglegs making shot placement a premium. If you like a course that's on the short side, this will do. I found the price to be very reasonable also. Would this be a course that I would bring the fellas to? In a pinch, yes.
