HUNTING BIRDS

Whenever you can score a tee time here for $50-$40 you are living the high life. Normal green fees are for the affluent. GolfNow makes the Hunter experience richly enjoyable (pricewise). Best overall tee boxes in SLO County & challenging greens make for a great journey into high end golf round. Staff has cooled their jets on condescension towards GN customers, and have lightened their need to make you play with other GN tee timers. Much improved from a couple years ago.

Links Sometimes Stinks

I play here on Hot Deals typically 20 times per year. Great course to raise confidence in your game. However, a few pitfalls will present themselves. First and foremost is the fact that the green fees should all be in the $20-$30 range with a cart, and that's without any Hot Deals. Can't ever justify paying their normal fees. Secondly, they treat GolfNow customers like pariahs. You will be teamed up with fellow GolfNow strangers regardless of the typical "Ghost Town" occupancy. Also you may be forced to ride in a cart with a stranger (even with "b.s" Covid concerns), or you have to separately pay for your own cart (even though you have cart included as part of your GolfNow purchase). They definitely have some form of "buyer's remorse" for teaming up with GN.

Avila Resort (if it only lived up to the resort moniker)

Avila Beach, the hotel, and clubhouse area are top notch. However, the course has not kept pace. Greens are one of the few aspects that live up to the expectations. The tee boxes may be the worst of any of the courses in the San Luis Obispo area. They're chunky. bumpy, and with the exception of hole one, are entirely unacceptable. Tee box markers, hole signs, and ball washers have not been attended to in decades. Would never pay whatever the regular green fees are. The $18=$20 range would "fit the bill in my opinion.

Black Pond is more appropriate moniker

No lake exist on or near the course. Some "mucky ponds" do show themselves, at times. The false advertising aside, the uniqueness of the 3 different 9 hole layout is enjoyable. Decently challenging, as well as decently groomed. It winds it's way thru various high end neighborhoods, and definitely has a country club feel. G.N prices are pretty good for this course.

Top 5 of SLO county courses

Near the top tier of courses in SLO County. Tee boxes are some of the best in the county, and greens are 2nd, to only Morro Bay, in difficulty. Only drawbacks are the fees & the way the staff treat GolfNow players. G.N fees are what the regular price should be (you're not Pinehurst). You're also treated like a Serf if you are a G.N client & always paired with someone (unlike most other G.N courses I've played)

Dug it !!

For Santa Maria you can't find a more scenic venue. Price thru Golfnow Hot Deals was great. Course layout was top notch. Pitfalls: you will get grouped with strangers, greens were bumpy as the face of the Moon, & for me the drive (1+ hour one way) was a bit much. However, I played well & wished it was closer so I could golf there more often.

GREAT VALUE

The Links is soon to become The Cabernet Golf Resort. Aspirations for this are far fetched. A total overall facelift is required to reach those lofty thoughts. However, for the budget minded & improving "Duffer" it can't get better. For the budget aspect to ring true it has to be a DEAL thru whichever company you choose (otherwise it is overpriced). If you stay on the fairways your game will improve & will be very enjoyable. "Shanks" will lead to much frustration. "The Rough" consists of either vineyards or disked earth (i.e. giant dirt clods & reaped hay). Nearly unplayable shots await you in these environs.
